Other than Dick are there any other authors who wrote about people trapped in false realities of people with false memories?
>>25274902None that comes to mind. Was about to type "that dude who wrote A Scanner Darkly" but that was Dick as well.
>>25274902Goggle throws up a bunch of modern science fiction that's probably no good.Iain Banks's "Use Of Weapons" is a bit like what you describe. It has two narratives, one running forward, one backward (a bit like Memento). Turns out the protagonist has had his memory changed and so on.Piranesi by Susanna Clarke involves people trapped in a weird "other reality". (It's like a gigantic house with thousands of huge rooms. Maybe it's something to do with the world of Plato's forms.) Worth a look perhaps. I wasn' impressed but some people like it.
>>25274902The Plagiarist - Hugh Howey. It's a short story.>Adam Griffey is living two lives. By day, he teaches literature. At night, he steals it. Adam is a plagiarist, an expert reader with an eye for great works. He prowls simulated worlds perusing virtual texts, looking for the next big thing. And when he finds it, he memorizes it page by page, line by line, word for word. And then he brings it back to his world. It's alright. It's short so you might as well read it.Simulacron-3 - Daniel F. Galouye. Don't look it up first because twats like to openly spoil plot points.>Douglas Hall is part of a team that builds an artificial environment to simulate reality. This enables them to get public opinion polls without waiting for the opinions of people around them. But then something goes terribly wrong and his partners on the program start disappearing.>But is it a simulated disappearance, or is someone out to get them all? And what is the true nature of reality?Really good book. You should watch its German adaptation: World on a Wire. The Tunnel Under The World - Frederik Pohl. Another short story.>Guy Burckhardt wakes up screaming, but can't remember the nightmare that caused his fright. As he goes through the day, he has a nagging feeling that he’s been here before, experienced this already; except the details are always different. Things only get stranger and more frightening from there. This really deserved to be a longer read.
