This essay is exceptional. I'm starting to think that the Frankfurt School has been undeservedly demonized, but perhaps their later works are not as good.

>undeservedly demonized
No shit. They anticipated already a lot of the French thinking decades later. Adorno was a genius (Negative Dialectics is still unsurpassed by later writing on metaphysics). Dialectics of Enlightenment is more important than ever in our time. I do need to read more Benjamin...

You can demonize the Frankfurt School. Because Walter Benjamin is not in the Frankfurt School.
Benjamin was a far more political figure than the Frankfurt School. William Buckley's buzzword "Don't immanentize the eschaton" was dismissed in America largely because of the man who popularized it, but it was Eric Voegelin who first came up with this concept. Walter Benjamin lived in the same era as Leo Strauss and Voegelin, and with his study of Adolf Harnack's Marcionism, what he was attempting was confronting such theology in order to argue "The Bible tried to immanentize the eschaton." This is precisely what both the Theses on the Philosophy of History and Critique of Violence are doing. He was not the aesthetician Adorno made him out to be, but a left-wing political theologian.

Why is this guy such a macabre, gossipy little spook? Seriously toxic vibes. Have you ever heard the story of how he met Heidegger? Real social climber shit.

>Because Walter Benjamin is not in the Frankfurt School
That was also my impression, but some tend to include him for some reason.

>keep calm and kill commies
You overweight, illiterate hillbillies with CHF LARP as some commie killer but whinge perennially online about being oppressed by “da joos” but too much of pussies to do anything about that. You can’t even stop being cattle, full of envy at the jews that allegedly control you, yet despite LARPing as some aryan warrior god, you grovel at your master’s feet like the little online bitch that you are. You will never kill a commie because you’re too much of a bitch to do anything about the jews you cry about. You’ll die of a heart attack at 45 because you’re a fat ass who can’t even run half of a mile. You should just kill yourself, Untermensch.

Yeah. I mean he was associated with it, but Adorno and Horkheimer always kept him at a distance, were critical of his writings, resisted publishing him. This is the 1930s; while Benjamin had already been writing for a long time, and had been in other bohemian, philosophical etc. circles before. In his last years in Paris he had been close to Bataille's College of Sociology also.

I can't even decide which one is worse.

Benjamin's infatuation with Judaism is such a bore. Like, man, I really don't care about your desert tribe delusions.

Voeglin is somewhat influential to my own writings to a degree.

though I must ask, did Walter's jewishiness implore him to dismiss the bible as an immanetization? because you have the OT, which is the original Hebrew bible, and then you have the NT, which is the Christian bible, was he condemning them as one document, or was the OT exempt in this regard and NT is what caused the immanetization?
