I assume you're wondering why Kafka gets his own special suffix?

-esque is mediaval Latin, but apparently from German originally.
-ian is straight Latin all the way.
I assume they're synonymous and people just pick the one that sounds better.

Not sure that "Kafkian" is any worse than "Kafkesque" though.

People say "Pinteresque" more than "Pinterian" (to refer to Harold Pinter), so it's not unique.
