After putting it off for so long, I’m finally going to read *The Lord of the Rings*. I read *The Hobbit* a few years ago and still remember the main points of the story. So, please tell me without giving away any spoilers: what should I expect from *The Lord of the Rings*?
endless descriptions and no action.
>>25280744A great fun journey that is timeless and classic, InSha Allah, may you enjoy your Tolkien journey Allahuma Barik
>>25280744A filological construct. A tome forgotten by the ages, gone through many editions and additions, now in your hands... or is it?A meditation on the ways in which mankind considers the past, how we build the present and a future in order to materialize a past which may have never existed the way we have once naively understood it. Old men can't embody ideals within themselves, they are far too fallible and torn, but trying to materialize the ideal of a blessed childhood is the most noble calling of all.Of course, it's more than likely that all this will be lost in the fun adventure, and that is just as well. You will soak in the meaning without realizing it, if there's a soul in you.
>>25280844I have never read a post accompanied by a touhou image that was worth reading. I still have hope that one day I will.
>>25280849We're all gonna make it, friend. But yeah, OP, there's not much point talking about the book before you've read it. Just dive in.
>>25280744It'll be different to whatever you expect. It's a product of a different time, and the prose style will reflect that. It's still very compelling and suitably 'mythic' in style. It's a surprisingly easy read if you're not delving for hidden meanings and hints of worldbuilding, so just enjoy it.
>>25280744It’s just a boring book. Has its moments though.
expect it to go on and on and oni've been reading it since Jan 20212/3 finished
>>25280744Wholesome christian mythified WW2.
