>According to Cioran, as long as man has kept in touch with his origins and hasn't cut himself off from himself, he has resisted decadence. Today, he is on his way to his own destruction through self-objectification, impeccable production and reproduction, excess of self-analysis and transparency, and artificial triumph.
Can someone elaborate?
>>
The world become artifice, the triumph of the simulacra. Cioran's 'origins' is probably better defined as the no-place of being and speech (Heidegger, Blanchot) or inner experience (Bataille).

The collective unconsciousness is build through the origin of one and thus through the previous generation. In the modern world we cut ourselves off from this. All the tradition and culture that forms the collective unconsciousness becomes irrelevant in the society. But that destroys the individual. Tradition itself is a form of social genetic heritage. It consists of everything that has worked through the history of the culture. Most of the sicknesses that destroy our society today have already appeared in the past. And somewhere in that pasts exists a remedy. But why won't the newer generation take on their origin? Two reason: (1) Incredible technological advancement make the youth think, that all the knowledge of their parents and grandparents is already old and expired; (2) Because of the different kind of employment, the parents spend less time with their kids, which damages the emotional bonding. Thus we loose all knowledge about our cultural pathology.
Here is something similar Jung talks about:
- Modern man does not understand how much his "rationalism" (which destroyed his capacity to respond to numinous symbols and ideas) has put him at the mercy of the psychic "underworld". He has freed himself from "superstition" (or so he believes), but in the process he has lost his spiritual values to a positively dangerous degree. His moral and spiritual tradition has disintegrated, and he is now paying the price for this break-up in worldwide disorientation and dissociation.
- Anthropologists have often described what happens to a primitive society when its spiritual values are exposed to the impact of modern civilization. Its people lose the meaning of their lives, their social organization disintegrates, and they themselves morally decay.
When we stick to our origin, f.e. through illud tempus, the balance between conscious and unconscious stays healthy. Some may find Christianity irrational and try to ignore or oppose it, but the archetype stays in our unconsciousness. Even if it may be irrational, it is necessary for us. The rich and happy life is reserved for the homo religiosus, but the homo sapiens. If we only see ourselves as a rational entity (self-objectification), become too conscious through self-analysis or have wins in the wrong framework of modernity, we become lost as a culture. We aren't made for this. Our unconsciousness knows it, but we don't. We keep alienating ourselves to the point where we don't know what exactly is wrong. And because we feel that uncertain alienation inside of us, we feel like shit. Which leads to decadence. We want to feel good, but don't know how. So we take the easiest way possible, which gets accelerated because of the industrial revolution. Hedonism, relativism, etc. We act according to what appears logical, while we are not. We act like a machine, while we are not.

Id rather be "sick" and "destroyed" but free than "healthy" and "happy" but chained to social tradition, superstition, family bonds, and community.
>Incredible technological advancement make the youth think, that all the knowledge of their parents and grandparents is already old and expired;
Because it is. Avoiding premarital sex doesn't matter anymore because we have contraception. Being friendly with the neighbours doesn't matter anymore because we have google/chatGPT if we need answers, or social media if we need friends. Something like Christianity is obviously just a lie and you don't even need technology to see this, just read the Bible.
All of the traditions you venerate are lies built on lies and this can be seen by the fact that people flee as far away from them as possible as soon as the opportunity arises.
Life was probably never even better in this state of ignorance, just as it's not better in the state of enlightenment. It was always shit. The only truly philosophically viable position is suicide.

>I would rather be sick and destroyed than happy and fulfilled.
Either you weren't "destroyed" enough or that is just a stupid opinion. You may have thousand wishes if you are healthy, but only one when you are sick (as a general statement).

>All of the traditions you venerate are lies built on lies and this can be seen by the fact that people flee as far away from them as possible as soon as the opportunity arises.
And what good has it done to the people? Someone may break the tradition and take heroin if he has the chance. Doesn't mean that the general rule not to take hard drugs is bad.
I am not even arguing for the preservation of every tradition. But it is a fact, that tradition goes through evolution. Similar to humanity. If an aspect of a culture is shit, it dies off easily. But if an aspect of culture shows its worth, it stays. Why abandon something worthy? I am not asking you to follow everything your parents say. Try out different paths. Maybe you will find a new way of life that is beneficial.

But my main point was a different one. "You" aren't the sole construct of logic that you want to display. There is more to that. You have an underlying unconsciousness. You sound as you may be familiar with Mainländer. If I remember correctly he mentioned a certain cycle in the beginning of his book. The first page actually. The human cycle from Polytheism to Monotheism/Pantheism (religious, philosophical) to Atheism. We are at the beginning of atheism right now, which means most of our closest ancestors were theists. They believed in a god that probably guided them and gave everything meaning. This feeling of a God got inherited to us, in the same we the fear of spiders has been inherited to us. This archetypal predisposition. It is now a part of us and we unconsciously want to fulfill it. So we do in the form of political activism an shiet. Similar for friendship with close people (Archetype plus instinct largely for this one though). It has been beneficial for most of our ancestors, so we have an unconscious drive to make that happen. Similar for marriage. And we can use the way that our ancestors achieved that for this. The faster and newer way destroy us unconsciously.

interesting point to think about, for those of us who are more "successful". probably irrelevant for the average neet loser though.

sounds strikingly similar to lukacs's concept of reification

you either believe in God or you are a sorcerer. There is no such thing as atheism and never will be.
