Is this book objective when it comes to the National Socialist economy? I read Hitler's revolution but it seemed a bit too biased towards Hitler and I also thought it was a bit too short. I would have liked something in much greater detail. I however don't want to read something that promotes blatant lies from the other end either. Is this the right book for me to learn about Germany's economy from 1933 onwards from an objective stand point?
You should probably cultivate a habit of reading a multitude of sources as well as academic criticisms of them to get a sense of the strength and weaknesses of different authors' arguments.
I haven't had sex in nine years.
>>25284164The problem with this book is not that it states wrong facts, in that department it is still undisputed and is still regularly cited by academics without much criticism. But it mostly presents the German economy without significantly considering the perspective of other nations, especially the Soviet Union which by itself is not much a flaw given that it's purpose is to educate about only Nazi Germany, but it gives amateurs who solely rely on this single book a wrong picture whenever they discuss WW2 economics as a whole.
>>25284195>>25284164Same Anon. There is no fully dedicated piece proposing an alternative to Adam Tooze's work, but if you want an alternative view that puts in the Germans in a less negative light, I can recommend you Richard Overy who different to Tooze holds the view that the Germans initialld were in a more favourable position than Tooze suggests, but he only directly mentioned his view in opposition to Tooze in "The Origins of the Second World War" in chapter 28 I think. For the full picture you'll have to consult more of his books and puzzle it together yourself.
>>25284195So if I read this book will I get an incorrect understanding of the NatSoc economy? Does the jewish holocaust play a large factor in this book?
>>25285050>understanding of the NatSoc economy? Does the jewish holocaust play a large factoryes the misappropriation of tank engines and diesel fuel to gas jews nkvd style caused the german army to lose at stalingrad
>>25285050I'm not saying Adam Tooze's book is a piece of trash that should be fully discarded. You can start with it, but you should be aware that it only gives an overview while over- or underplaying significant aspects of it to make a broader claim over how the German economy led to WW2.
>>25284164Never read it but the full range of people I respect from Nazis to gay and slightly racist Communists have endorsed it so I‘d say go for it.
>>25284180Ten for me
History is based on cross-textual analysis of both primary and secondary sources. You should never just read a single book on a subject and think that you know everything about it. Not blaming anyone in this thread in particular, but the death of humanities and growing anti-intellectual sentiment has completely buried the historical method. Unfortunately it feels like the only spaces where you can talk about history at a high level are grad school (lol) or fucking ai (lmao)
