>>25285991>A good plot (man in the high castle, mistborn) cannot carry mediocre prose.Stephen King's entire career stands in opposition to that. He's a master plotter and clunky prose writer. That's why Dark Tower doesn't work, because the plot goes nowhere.

>>25286101both good>>25285991I read "To Live" by Yu Hua a while ago, plot was good and engaging but the prose was pretty much nothing, still ended up enjoying it though. I'm a prosefag 100% but plot can still carry imo
the thing is, good prose does something to you that you can't explain afterward. you try at a dinner party & it doesn't come out right & you sound insane. the plot people don't have this problem. they can explain exactly what happened & why it was good & how the character arc resolved. transferable.
>>25286246>they can explain exactly what happened & why it was good & how the character arc resolvedYep that proves we are better
Prosefags are mental children incapable of enjoying growth. They want to be dazzled by art but not transformed by it. Like those inferior artists who shriek away from interpretation of their own art.
>>25286293prose is transformative. it's like when you meet a new person and something subtle and strange in the way they speak and act reveals a whole new way of living and thinking. you come away feeling transformed, touched by an alien force.prose gives you a chance to flex organs of perception you don't know you had, to experience the world in a way that makes it truly a different world, affording new possibilities for interaction, mysterious avenues to explore.but look what you've reduced me to, acting as if 'plot' and 'prose' really are meaningfully separate elements, as if they're not essential components in a circuit through which consciousness and desire ceaselessly flow in a constant transformative, generative flux. what's death for art is to put language 'in the service of' story, or story 'in the service of' language. that way you block up the flow, you subordinate exploration of new values to the veneration of familiar values like 'character development', 'beautiful descriptions' etc.perhaps this is all vague and incoherent. still working on My Theories.
>>25286239>but the prose was pretty much nothingDid you read a troonslation? You did, didn't you?

>>25286101Prose IS poetry, when done right. Too many aspiring writers don’t even begin to understand the value of a natural rhythm, which leads to clunky prose.
>>25287070>clunky proseDo you not understand we dont fucking care? Books have evolved beyond muh prose
>>25287077So are you more of a Sanderson or a Hoover reader?
>>25285986This is how I feel about late Henry James. Takes so much concentration just to read about the most inconsequential, nothingburger shit.
>>25285986Retarded binary thinking. Every fiction author should aspire to develop all those aspects in their body of work.
