I don't know. I feel lonely. I quit my job, and have been making some money playing poker. I think I ought to be making money selling paintings but frankly the notion frightens me. My house needs cleaning, and I want to remodel my bathroom. I'm embarrassed to have company over as my dog is too affectionate and her hair coats everything despite irregular vacuuming. I can't get my mind off a school teacher I took out for sushi a few weeks ago. I want children but I'm worried I'll die alone. I spend my evenings reading at the dive bar. Right now I'm reading Stoner, and it's depressing.

I loved every job I had from computer programming to being a warehouse monkey. But they all ended the same way.
My verdict is that I love working but hate having a job.

I'm watching the new seasons of Law & Order on Netflix (I like to watch TV when I eat or when I need to decompress), and they do a lot of topical subjects and stories. One episode has the defendant pursue a Race-Based Trauma defense by reason of insanity, that they faced so much discrimination that they eventually snapped when the igniting issue occurred. It even has the black detective sympathize with him.

I suppose I can see the reasoning for this, the rage that builds up over time from repeated discrimination. But then couldn't you just as easily assert anyone who is subject to repeated threats and violent altercations with people of a specific race is also suffering from similar Race-Based Trauma? So one day if they eventually snap, is it not the exact same defense? These leftist writers didn't think that through, I bet.

I graduated last year and have just started this job as a university lecturer (on a year's probation). I was walking through the halls the other day and without thinking kicked violently at a small stone I saw on the floor. It flew down the hallway and struck directly just below the kneecap of a senior professor.

I want to improve the quality of everyone's lives, but Iack the ability to do so in any meaningful way, and don't offer the same compassion towards myself due that very same lack of ability.
I guess I need to start small to get the ball rolling, but I'm squeamish about being recognized one day. I want my influence in society to be concealed, because I am the actually the Batman.

You're probably right. I won't get my hopes up, but I think it's worth the one-in-a-hundred odds it could lead to something. It's rare I feel any sort of chemistry with someone, and somehow I think that's a two way street, even if that means I'm a retard

I've jerked off only once in the 1.5 weeks since that orgy I told you about. Haven't been too horny, especially not for what are essentially on the same sexual tier as bathroom tiles (pixels on a screen displaying porn). I think it cracked something in me. My relationship with sex has evolved.

I've been posting on /lit/ since 2012, with a few years on and off here and there. These days, I only camp these threads (+ the poetry general). On the rare occasions when I do decide to check out the rest of the board, I find I'm immediately inundated with ragebait after ragebait, pessimism after pessimism thread. Yes, AI is scary for those who like to read and write. Yes, the publishing industry is in disarry. Yes, people don't read anymore. Yes, this, that, and those other things are awful. Why is every thread about that lol. It's like people like to wallow in misery and bring others down with them.

Would you guys agree that real change as a human being is possible, but if it ever happens, it's going to be through consistent daily effort over a matter of months or years, and basically just a teensy bit at a time, so that it only becomes noticeable once many months have passed? And that if it feels like you radically changed over night & discovered the cure to all your personal flaws, it's probably complete bullshit?
>>
i wish i never existed. genuinely.
>>
>>25290489
what is writing & poetry for, if not the sudden shock of recognition? just decoration?
>>
>>25290353
>Why is every thread about that lol.
They're losers. All those people are wasting their lives, putting 0 effort in and disappointing their inner child every single day. Subconsciously this makes them feel like shit, so they have to come up with a new excuse every single day for why it's actually mega based that I put 0 effort into my life, and if they see anyone doing what their inner child actually wants them to do, they'll freak out and try to tear the other person down. Obviously what they're attempting to do can't be -THAT- impressive, because if it is then it makes you look like shit. Nah, everything is fake and gay. Every genius author? Oh yeah they actually suck. Getting published? Nah it's impossible. Don't you know AI already made humans obsolete?

Anything to keep the coping mechanism going
>>
>>25290499
The shock & recognition is true, but once you get that shock, you're still only 1% different because the shock affects only 1% of your beliefs probably. Unless you got converted to a religion or something
>>
>>25290502
Well said.
>>
Modern warfare is so fucking gay. For what fucking reason or cause would anyone ever be willing to fight in one? At least in ancient warfare, you usually met your enemy face to face, fought hand to hand, and could stand to gain quite a bit if you won...money, land, women, etc. but none of those things apply to modern warfare regardless of what uniform you're wearing.

Even if it is for a cause, wouldn't you be more useful to that cause alive than dead?
>>
>>25290508
> the shock affects only 1% of your beliefs
it might be a load-bearing 1%
>>
>>25290513
Yeah true. I've personally never had that happen though. There are tons of moments where I thought it happened, but I was just bullshitting myself in retrospect
>>
The more I think about it the more I realize a scientific theory of the world without an explanation for consciousness is totally incomplete. For whatever reason the scientific worldview simply can't compass the possibility that the subject is constitutive to the whole reality of being, and will extend the purely physical universe outwards to 5, 6, 7 and more dimensions, but it never stops to consider that what it's conceptualizing is the structure of the mind. Biocentric ideas are completely anathema to this worldview. The subject must forever be a given.

When we ask "what was happening during the Cambrian, before any sapient observer existed?" we're asking a question that already presupposes the cognitive forms that only exist where an intellect exists to deploy them.

Schopenhauer is explicit that the "present" is the only true form of the will as it manifests itself, so as he would put it, the "present" exists eternally for the subject that experiences it, because it's the only form the will can find expression. Thus beings and animals that existed millions of years ago, are just as present as now, insofar as the perception of time is relative to the subject.

It's actually quite remarkable that idealist perspectives are beginning to be taken seriously in some scientific circles, but it can only reach full bloom insofar as science accepts that the subject is constitutive of reality rather than some kind of shame to be papered over.
>>
>>25290517
What are you even trying to say...the world exists independently of our ability to observe it. We are not the center of the world.
>>
>>25290516
oh its possible
However doing that daily effort for a long period of time makes you more perceptible to experience it.
So cultivation and 'sudden enlightenment' go hand in hand
>>
>>25290517

nigga science is just an extension of our senses ofc it can't perceive the perceiver

It's hard to come up with something original. Had the idea of writing a children's poetry collection and used shel Silversteins work as a reference, similar poems can't be penned down without being called a rip off. There are only so many topics a child can relate to, the best topics and executions have already been done. There's still good stuff to be dug up and I've had a few ideas, but even his books are filled with filler when it was relatively new territory. It's tough. Some of the stuff is obvious, good, but too unique to be redone. You're forced to go far out but that's usually more difficult to consume, especially for children who want something quick, funny, and imaginative.

My dad's first edition 14th run print (mass market paperback) of Stephen R. Donaldson's Lord Foul's Bane has had the back cover fall off. I could rebind it for him for his bday but that is expensive and I don't know what it would do to the value of the book unless I personalize it. I also don't know what his reaction would be. Should I just rebuy a used hardcover of it instead?

So basically all beginner Greek and Chinese philosophy, because all of it including religions like Confucianism and Buddhism (famously labeled as practical and "non-spiritual") all have the argument that you should follow the tenants of what they preach BECAUSE of a spooky immaterial force that will help or harm you based on your thoughts, feelings, and actions.
Human morality and philosophy without the "moral spooks" of some sort of otherworldly entity or force enacting vengeance on you isn't morality or Philosophy because the argument to "You wouldn't like it if I did that to you" ends with the practical argument of "Well I'll just kill you then" or "Well, I'll make sure to never be in your place." and you have no argument against it.
>>
>>25290669
>Local anon all of a sudden discovers that religion was a tool that the Romans and Greeks wielded as pragmatically as others in their society did dogmatically.
People need to understand that religion is as much as a "social technology" as it is also a moral framework, it explains so much why the Romans abhorred human sacrifice and went out of their way to destroy other cultures doing it while also sacrificing defeated general and kings publically at the end of their victory parade and not see any hypocrisy in it.

I'm at a job any idiot could learn in two weeks, bossed around by literal retards who do zero work the second they get promoted across fifteen meetings a day (note: even less work than ordinary management), and I hang out with actual criminals in the smokers pit. It's actually kind of fun. Sure I'm both more intelligent and capable than basically anyone on the computer side of things, but I have basically zero knowledge of anything outside of my little warehouse realm, and because I'm always amazed at what everyone else is doing, they think I'm a fellow idiot but are more than happy to share. Man, I haven't thought about this, but I just realized that pajeets flooding the internet with AI generated pages have made research on certain topics next to impossible. it's occurred to me that the deepest nature of female lust deifies theory moreso than the act itself. this is where the core mistranslation commonly cited in "men not understanding women" comes from. women have an idea for what they want and embellish it deeply not just within their head but within their social circles where it's further reinforced and re-embellished by peers, inflating and bloating like an uncontrollable unwieldy entity that casts an unflattering shadow perpetually over most real-life male attention they're destined to receive. men experience fantasy but of a different kind; it is 'shallow' in the sense they rarely permit it to grow in the way women do (even if men do have fantasy, feed it and may allow it to grow; it's ultimately smaller, less pervasive) and men seem more adaptable or open to observable reality re-writing or otherwise replacing their prior notions of "what romance ought to be" and "what women are like". i believe this disparity stems from genetics: men not being selectors within a polite society, women are; men pursue an admirable 'manly' life and in a functional society this will make them interesting to women, who then make selections. but when women indulge in such elaborate fantasy for so long with so much stimuli and so much over-socialization it starts to become thoroughly poisonous to the inevitability of having to find, engage and finally choose man. it's an overdose, basically. an overdose of what women do naturally. i believe this alongside noxious encouragement by elements of a society reeling from perceived historical sleights, now over-correcting, explains a lot of woes with modern gender relations in the west. it's worse when society notices something is wrong and immediately begins searching for 'malfunctioning men' who display chauvinistic tendencies (ironic since so many women respond positively to the dark triad) and erroneously begins to blame them while enabling the actual problem (deified theory by women)

Filmic entropy - a show goes on long enough, covering up reality with a good fantasy, and you start to see holes appear. The dream-energy fades. Watch a show long enough, you can see characters turn into actors slowly in real-time, you can watch Hermione Granger become Emma Watson, just as tired as her character. Scenery and setting slowly turn to sets, CGI, ‘shots’, flashbacks and filler and worst of all the everlasting ‘trope’. They used all the magic up, the show is over. Coffee cups materializing directly into Game of Thrones finales. Actors waving their hands dismissively at the screen as actual content in the film. Often directly offering the audience in on the joke, but always at their expense. They used to do it sappy but even in St Elsewhere they involved the viewer in some diagnosis of non-verbal autism. Chuck Lorre just fires and rapes his main character for a couple of seasons before he drops a piano on an extra and puts his own laughing face on screen. Its important to cut off a relationship at the right time, when its well and over, but money has always driven this industry, nothing magical. And you can ask the sci-fi writers of old what they think about anyone’s alleged ‘Industrial Light and Magic’
>>
Okay raise your right hand if you're here to try and be a part of an audience all responding to one great post in nodding agreement of it's intelligence and meaning
Now raise your left hand if you are here to get a bunch of people to all reply to your post nodding in acknowledgement of its intelligence and meaning
---end here if that's good enough for you---
Now take your dick out if you figure this means any and all posts can be well-loved and appreciated as they were intended, but that none of that requires a post and in fact only really can happen in silence. So there is some argument that each of us do in fact get intellectual 'play'

If the Norwegian and Swedish populations were larger, the spirit of initiative that still animates them might not be without consequences; but their numbers reduce them to a veritable social impotence; it can therefore be asserted that the last seat of Germanic influence is no longer among them. It has shifted to England.

In the whole of human history, there are few situations analogous to that of the populations of Great Britain from the 10th century to the present day. Elsewhere, we have seen Aryan or Aryanized masses bring their energy to the midst of multitudes of different composition and endow them with power while simultaneously receiving from them an already considerable culture, which their genius then developed in a new direction. But we have not considered these elite types, concentrated in greater numbers in a small territory and receiving only a very small number of influences from races more perfected by experience, though subordinate in rank. It is to this exceptional circumstance that the English owed, along with the slowness of their social development, the solidity of their empire; it was certainly not the most brilliant, nor the most humane, nor the noblest of European states, but it remains the most vigorous.

I recall one time when I was 6 or 7 years old, my mother took me to her friend's house, and when I met her friend's sons, I said to all four of them that I could take them all in a fight. I think this is because my brother and I used to watch a lot of kung fu movies.

Oh how I wish I could manifest that same level of self-assured confidence today. I don't know what happened. I think it all went downhill when I got a laptop and starting browsing forums on the internet. That's when I learned to start policing my behavior, which included constant worry over correct and incorrect, socially acceptable and cringe acts, and is when my severe anxiety and relentless self-consciousness began.

Don't get me wrong, discovering the internet was incredibly useful for my intellectual development. I just wish I could have avoided all the baggage. Or maybe it would have happened when I reached puberty anyway.

I used to be a conservative moralfag who believed in self sacrifice, law and order. Then I stepped into the "real world", got a 9 to 5, and now I'm just a desperate scoundrel. If I could empty everyone's bank accounts, even the most desperate elderly people, if I could kill my family for inheritance, if I could rob a bank, if I could pinch the pockets of everyone on the street, I would do it unhesitatingly. I would actually kill an innocent child to have to never work again.

I once heard it described as the junkie olympics. It's a contest between the homeless addicts and the security guards to see who has the most unruffled and urbane facade about it. The security guards because they've seen it all. The junkies because that facade lets them pretend living this way is normal. Shocking one leads to either a brutal beating or a suicide, depending. The junkies don't like their illusions pierced, and the ones that have it happen and still have any semblance of selfhood usually overdose that day. The others aren't people anymore. They're addictions with skin and no real sense of self, empty pits that can never be filled and lack anything but the most basic of masks of human feeling. Tools, to better satisfy the pit.

I suspect that unlike the junkies, the security guards start as p-zombies. Why would you willingly go to that place for what they get paid? I don't like going there and I've got access to (and no questions about my use of) droperidol for people who bother me.

It is strange to see serial killers and other antisocial individuals described as monsters and spoken of as if they were constantly hiding "their true selves". I would no doubt be considered a monster by many and I am seemingly excessive indifference to certain negative behavior. Yet this is how I was born; I made no real attempt to be a "monster" or to be "normal". From my perspective I am neutral and simply going on with my life. Yet me going on with my own life people consider to be me hiding my true self, merely because my vices are not on public display.

This doesn't make me feel bad, but it creates a strange disconnect from everyone around me. Whenever certain antisocial behaviors are brought up, everyone around me acts completely different from my own intuitive point of view and, by extension, mark me, unknowingly, as a monster. I make no attempt to protest or to play along; I just stay silent. It makes me feel alien.
>>

I might just take my measly savings of £30,000 and put it all down on a bet. If I win I will quit my job, if I lose I will commit suicide. I literally cannot imagine working every single day for the rest of my life anymore. I want to sleep for however long I want, I want to do whatever I want. This abject slavery is literally pushing me over the brink.
Or I might just quit my job now and live out for however long I can survive on my 30k, and then commit suicide when I run out of money.
>>
>>25291818
I'm convinced anyone who says this is some form of rich kid who never has to work. As soon as you have to work all of that goes out of the window. There is no "believing in yourself" because your time is consumed by work, and the only thing you can do outside of it is recover from the psychological, spiritual, and physical trauma of having a job. The "kingdom of God" also completely goes away and gets transformed into a joke. I used to be a devout Catholic in uni before getting a job but now I can't even think about the idea of God without a scoffing incredulity.

Born with a nature too sensitive to survive the hazing of masculine friendships. An intellect too low to achieve anything of grand historical importance, and too high to be satisfied with a normal life. A traumatised recluse, excitable, suspicious, constantly besieged by harrowing memories like lightning strikes inside the skull. Eye bags and drooppng eylids, like Michael Corleone, a homeless version. White tongue coating; bad posture. A meagre literary talent, undeveloped because no work ethic, no encouragement. Absentminded, wistful, slow. Misogynist with a secret weakness for dominatrices. Serial masturbator. Squeamish, disgusted by sex, tired of craving it. I have an autistic brother in law obsessed with this shit. For example, he was screaming like a goddamned retard every time my dog barked, like full on tard rage covering his ears screaming some atonal primal retard grunt every time he went in or out of the house, because that's the dog's job; bark when someone goes in or out the door. I told him straight up that he was acting like a childish buffoon and either needs to mitigate the situation, avoid it entirely, or suck it up. This nigga has seen slayer live, he's annoyed, not in physical pain. Well the next day I wake up to 10 paragraphs of text messages talking about how I dont have his ears and I dont know what hurts his ears, and actually he's in extreme physical pain and it's my obligation to accomodate him because he's just that sensitive. So, being a spiteful dickhead, I bought a decibel meter, measured the intensity of the dog's barks, their durration, and broke it down on a goddamned graph in excel why it wasnt causing him any hearing damage, and he was in fact a vagina.

Obviously I understood he felt bad. I have no responsibility to care about it when it was stupid. All feelings should be expressed logically or contained indefinitely then vented on anonymous image boards.

Okay Mr. "I just got a job and now my life's over". Working is great, it gives you a sense of purpose and pacing to an otherwise dreary and monotonous existence. It creates highs and lows. It allows you to cultivate a skill, express mastery, and influence your environment. Sure the job may also be pointless busywork for slave wages, as most jobs are, but an endless corridor of NEETing is a path straight to entropy with nonredemption. You will atrophy and rot into a husk of yourself; at least working you can dream of not working. Now, if you're wealthy as fuck you can discard all these platitudes, but then you just get into the cocaine and debauchery shame spiral, becoming more and more jaded until the only thing that gets your rocks off is free basing hooker spit out of a lightbulb while suspensed by meathooks in your flesh and having your testicles whipped by dwarves.

Something from the experience of an attractive guy: whenever I walk by a couple in public, I make it a rule to never, ever look at the girl/woman. I don't wanna disrespect the guy by checking out his girl and making it look like I'm showing interest and trying to move in. This is especially in cases where the guy is obviously facemogged and does his best to not even look in my direction. If the guy is confident and comfortable and looks at and smiles at me, then sure, I'll smile at both him and his girl. But yeah, I look at the guy, notice if he's trying to ignore, and match his behavior.

Sometimes though I slip up and can't help but look at the girl, and often times, she'll be checking me out, sometimes even smiling. Poor guy.

Based. I do similar things as a bigger (6'2). Letting women manipulate us into humiliating less attractive men for their narcissistic sadism is disgusting.

I really think I would have been at leats marginally better off had my mom just dumped me on the side of the road as a baby. She has a kind heart but she has truly sabotaged me in nearly every conceivably way.

To be fair, men have wandering eyes too. Nothin' wrong with a little eye candy, so long as you don't pursue it, or do it so obvious as to humiliate your partner.

Yeah the shamelessness and cultural acceptance is what disgusts me. Girl culture and le sisterhood need to be shattered the same way male fraternities (in the general sense) were.

We live in a "the fence belongs to Satan" kind of society. Being an "in-between fence-sitter" is somehow worse than being a pedophile to a lot of people. Directionbrains demand you pick one of two extremes or die essentially.

Sad state of affairs.

I hate how indignant and self-righteous this current young generation is. You cannot have a debate with them on any issue without them looking like they're about to cry, and making that angry face like you're committing crimes against humanity by disagreeing with them at all. Be passionate, fine, but they've thrown out logic entirely for emotion. Which has its place, certainly, a lot of morality has its bedrock in emotion and intuition, but they go overboard and histrionic, it's not only annoying but embarrassing.
>>
>>25292725
>have a debate with them
as an enlightened intellectual I have never had the desire for debates. What right is right. Aint no need to pretend otherwise. Especially not with children
>>
>>25292725
Have you tried giving up on society and engaging people on these kinds of talks all together yet? It's great, there was some sort of controversy some co-worker was attempting to get me to care about and I just asked her "Why would I care what is rotting the apple when I know its rotten in the first place?" She actually didn't really have an answer to that but I also think she took it kinda personally.
>>
what career is even still possible to pursue anymore
>>
I thought up the silliest image earlier and every time I think about it I can't help but laugh.

Imagine you're testifying at a trial in support of the defendant. You answer all of the questions of the defendant's lawyer professionally and helpfully. When the prosecutor gets up to do the cross, every time after they ask their question but before you answer, you do a ";p" face to influence the jury by making them laugh and not take your curt, unhelpful answers seriously. Would this be illegal? Would you be cited for contempt of court? I don't know, but the image of this is hilarious to me.
>>
There's this improv acting book I discovered a year or two ago that starts with the author relating that since he was a kid, he's always been doing this thing where he takes a common belief of his and just flips it, inverts it at random, "Could I actually be wrong about this?"
What's amazing is that since I started doing this, half the time the answer is "yes". And you realize there was a ton of awesome stuff that you could have experienced any time were it not for this arbitrary bias that you accidentally put up in your brain. It can be subtle stuff, like "I never finish books that start off weak, because they never end strong". Maybe you're right. But if you take any random belief you have like this & invert it just to see what happens, you'll get some crazy results, I promise. Everyone should start doing this

Its called lateral thinking and its based. Interrogate everything down to the axiom and re-read your sentence cut in half and backwards, reverse its meaning re-evaluate, listen to tour words as though somebody else was saying them, its the secret to collective conciousness and life

People can tell you've jerked off recently by your greebly, weirdo aura. That's why everyone in public looks at you like you're some kind of slimy fucking wacko and physically avoids being around you.
>>
>>25292953
I'm not an expert in psychedelics or dissociatives, but it is my understanding ketamine's potential to help anxiety, depression, PTSD, you name it, seems to be far more universal and standardized than doing the same with LSD or mushrooms. Yes, I've known people who've had success with the latter, just as I know some who it didn't do much aside from a fun night, and then even those who had bad lingering effects. Whereas with K, all I've heard are positive results. So long as you don't overdo it and end up hooked, of course.

In middle school, someone once told me I looked like a cat. Sometimes when looking in the mirror I see the resemblance. But then, on rare occasions, when thinking about it, I wonder if what he really meant was I look like a pussy. Probably not, it was likely literal. But still, ya never know. I do look like a human version of a kitty though.

Okay, props to you for actually using cetaphil but you gotta go specific with your face skin type. That's a very general type of facial cleaner, if you got an oily face get something for oily skin, so go for something SPECIFIC to your face and skin.
Second, if you're actually doing all that and still getting acne then the next thing you need to see is your fucking diet you greasy faggot. Stop eating like a slob.

Losing your grip. Reality is getting sloppy. Not on the ball. You’ve taken it too easy and you’re letting the ground underneath you move and sink. Lacking discipline. Thinking you can indulge and wind up on the other side the same as before. You’ve played that game a long time ago, and you know the end outcome of that path. Yet you let yourself slip because it lets you off.

Here you are. In the hell you personally created. You can’t escape it. Because it is you. It’s your own mind, your own prison. Your own actions, your own failings, your own judge, jury and executioner. The skull is the prison and your brain the prisoner. Life in solitary confinement. Your skeleton a collection of metal bars. Eyes a CCTV camera. Welcome to the next 100 years of your life. Get comfortable.
