Reading this
It's alright
About halfway through
Some of it is nice, I particularly liked the chapter on solitude, and I agree with some of his philosophical musings, but other times he feels a bit pretentious and sounds kinda gay. Like his constant glucking of the feather indians or whatever
What think?

I hope the pressure of the chair is making your leg look way fatter than it is but even so you should be running more so that‘ll firm up a bit.

Make no mistake, I am a fat fuck, but my legs are quite muscular under the fat. Got thunder thighs. Could probably crush a watermelon with them, though I've never tried
>>
utterly profligate thread

Why would you insult me so?

I regrettably got halfway through Walden before realizing he was just saying whatever vibey shit he thought sounded cool
>>
>>25320402
I was surprised at how un comfy Walden was. I thought it was about a relaxing zen in nature but it seemed tryhard and pretentious. He was always an insufferable proto liberal. I think his Journey on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers or whatever it's called was much comfier.

The pretentiousness is something I definitely feel coming from it. There was one point where he said some shit about how people often want to know who built these big and grandiose structures, and how he would rather like to know who built a little shack in the woods (like he did lol) and I was like, okay bro, you can stop huffing your own farts for a little bit. I think his prose is also kinda boring. There are a few paragraphs and chapters that are good, but when he's describing the pond and nature and stuff it just feels kinda boring most of the time. For a book about wanting to elevate nature, the parts written about nature shouldn't feel as dry as they do. Overall, the book is mediocre

That being said I do think there's some amount of value to some of the things he says, like about how people actually don't need all that much to really live, which was the focus of the first couple chapters of the book. He says that he was able to sustain himself financially with roughly 6-8 weeks of work total. He was critical of the need of concordians to work so much for all of this "fluff" that they don't actually need. This sentiment is probably a thousand times more true today in the consumerist culture we have, but still. The way he goes about making his point is very hoity toighty
>you don't need curtains, it's a waste of money. Just let the sun in
Bitch I like my curtains. Just because something is not necessary doesn't mean I should do away with it. Your fucking boat is not necessary as you can just fish from the shore, yet you still spend a whole 90 pages talking about rowing out to the middle of walden pond to look at the fish dumbass

Read Hamsun's Pan instead.

>if you do you're a stinky cultural marxist
Spoken like another trad champ who never went /out/ in his life.
