>korda

Literally only reason you mentioned this somewhat obscure Brit director is cause I posted Don Juan in that other thread yesterday.

must’ve missed that. always thought korda was hungarian, and he wasn’t all that obscure; was big in his time.
his rembrandt film is in my top 10 still.

He seemed “obscure” enough (ie non-arthouse people cant instantly recognize him like the big names - Bergman, Fellini or Cocteau) where I thought your comment was directed at me.

Me, I'm also partial to small Orson Welles.
>>

obscure seems like a strange charge for alexander korda. he’s a essentially a golden age director isn’t he? private life of henry viii 100x more well-know than testament d’orphee
>>
Yeah. My favowite is There Will Be Blood :D

I just re-watched The Third Man.

I’m a huge Orson Welles.

I hated movies for a long time, I used to say that the medium itself was just bad. For most movies I'm genuinely into it during the exposition, I like the characters, I like the setting etc, but then suddenly oh no there's a conflict !! and from there on out you can pretty much predict what's gonna happen. I hate the default story structure when it comes to film
At this point my favorite shit is either abstract shit that doesn't feel like it falls into the pretentious art school camp, stuff like Altman's 3 Women, or movies that are mostly vibes based where not much happens, something like Linklater's Slacker. Possession (1980) or Celine and Julie Go Boating are probably my favorite movies at the moment.
If I have to watch a movie I'll just pick something old by a notable director, something like Fellini or Polanski or whatever, but I've barely scratched the surface, I'm not a film buff at all
