>What is /wng/ — Web Novel General?
A general for readers and authors involved or interested in the growing phenomenon of 'web novels', serialized English fiction posted to websites such as: Royal Road, Webnovel, Scribblehub, Wattpad, Archive of Our Own, Spacebattles, HFY, various personal author websites, and more

>Why read web novels?
Not for prose or tight editing or deep themes, frankly. As a whole, web novels are infamous for content sprawl and pacing issues. If you enjoy having millions of words to sink your teeth into to get to know the world and characters, though, you may be interested. Keeping up with other readers on a weekly basis to discuss the story's events unfolding is another perk, in the same way discussing an ongoing TV show might be.

>Why write web novels?
Ease of access & potential for Patreon earnings. Many successful authors gain an audience on their website of choice and funnel their readers into a Patreon. See graphtreon.com/top-patreon-creators/writing for an idea of what some are earning.
Also, once an author has earned a fanbase, transitioning into an Amazon self-publishing career is several orders of magnitude easier than starting 'dry'.

This got done.

To anyone here who cares about cultivation, yes even you RI poster, suggest me elements for a cultivation system.

I'm looking at a universal system that applies to mostly everyone, and then there are major differences between major cultivation method families.

I am also thinking of using Martial World for inspiration.

>EARLY STAGES
>???

>FALSE CORE
>Optional Realm

A realm that is common enough to be recorded but uncommon enough to not be included in the main tiering system. Many methods have a preliminary stage between Foundation Establishment and Core Formation.

Usually it has some of the power of Golden Core.

If you fuck up forming your Core and somehow survive, you will likely end up stuck in this realm, even if your method doesn’t have an official False Core chapter. In these cases, you are more likely to end up with a strength closer to an actual Golden Core, but still not enough to really fight on par with one.

>CORE FORMATION
>Core Formation/Golden Core

It’s Golden Core, what do you expect.

This stage was called Golden Core for countless ages and in many places it still is called that.

Various types of Golden Core are still the most orthodox method.

Covers all forms of cores.

Originally developed in an attempt to imitate the natural powers of spirit and demon beasts.

>Core Consolidation
>Stabilization Sub-Realm

Many methods have some version of this due some flaw in the method, or if sub-par materials are used for the breakthrough.

Like False Core, there are two reasons to end up in this stage: Your method includes it, or you made a mistake.

It’s basically the opposite of a False Core. If you fuck up forming your Core, but somehow manage to finish it, you will spend a while in this stage.

The most notable and well documented version of this realm is a Fragmented Golden Core. Since it is the oldest form of this stage, a Fragmented Golden Core is also the least severe version of the “I made a mistake” reason to end up in this stage.

>TERRESTRIAL IMMORTAL
>Nascent Soul Equivalent

This stage refers to any stage in any method that has reached two standards:
a) Liberation from conventional death.
b) A certain minimum standard of power and cultivational weight class.

This tier INCLUDES within it various types of Nascent Soul, but these are not the only method for becoming a Terrestrial Immortal by far.

I suggest you read Eternal Sacred King for a fairly traditional cultivation system, it's well detailed, there are daoist, buddhist and also generic demonic systems. MC specifically does not have a spirit root and has to use a different method to cultivate until core formation.
Martial world is ok but it's hardly indepth and does not have a good cultivation system (MW world building was really nice though).
>>
>>25403827
I am familiar with most conventional cultivation systems, so I am mainly looking for interesting ideas. I will look into ESK.
>>

Lay out all the cards for the reader. The character doesn't get it spelled out and is merely left with the initial hints given. Think of Alfred Hitchcock's bomb under the table analogy. Adress it in no uncertain terms and then go on as usual. Let the public in on the danger as much as possible and make them root for the character to figure it out before it's too late.

I am about to start RI Renegade Immortal, what am i in for /wng/ ?
>>
>>25404072
unironically kino
it has issues but it's great overall
>>
>>25403830
nta but I don't see anything in your post that hasn't been done before. When people speak of unique cultivation systems they mean stuff like Gu or the Paths from LotM.
Speed bump realms aren't interesting. You can have them as part of the story but they don't sell the system.
>>
>>25404146
Of course, I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel.
I already have a novel where I did a completely original system. Multiple in fact.

I am doing xianxia here.

"I've done the alternate western versions, now I'll do my own spin on the classic version."

But even within the classical Qi Gathering -> Nascent Soul -> Whatever you come up with progression, there is a huge amount of variance. As an example Record of a Mortal's Journey and Renegade Immortal both have major differences.

I am looking for these "oh he did this thing differently" things.

Post your RoyalRoad webnovel here and I'll read the first 10 chapters. If it is good I'll give it 5 stars, if it sucks I'll give it either 4, never less. You can't go wrong with a reader like me.

Sure. Retribution Engine or Puppetmaster: Army of One, pick whichever.

>>25404195
Interesting, but I likely won't go the way of environmental depletion. Nonetheless the system looks cool and will probably be helpful, thanks.

Writing a 14-16k word chapter is fun until you have to edit and revise it.

holy shit pirateaba is posting here

Man, I can't write for shit when I sit in front of a computer.

I will literally go sit next to a blank white wall and just empty mind while staring at it for 30+ minutes. Then I will rush over to the computer to write down everything I've been thinking about. Then if I want to continue I have to go stare at the wall again. Some other things work as well, like going for a walk late at night when nobody else is out so there are no distractions.

I can write 'functional' stuff, but I can't really get into the characters' heads or come up with interesting situations. It's like all the imagination drains out of me when I'm sitting by the computer.

>I can't do a thing this way
>it only works if I do it that way
Then keep writing in the way that works for you? Are you retarded?

Just read a novel where the setting is "isekai fantasy nazi germany" and the plot is a misunderstood hero protagonist exterminating jews who are actually human eating aliens who want to end the world. What the fuck is wrong with Koreans? How does this even get published?
