That faggot liberal is way up his own ass too much to even understand what is good anymore. After I made him crashout by making fun of (and ratioing) him when he said the Mando movie was good, I knew that faggot glowie was forever on my shitlist. I said last thread how I am afraid the fandom and kike publisher will force his hand into writing a more lefty story even though George is equally as much of a romantic as he is a woke hippie boomer.
Some anon says that the play kind of confirms he will stand his ground
BUT I have greater fears than just the publishers, trannies and loser foids, I think it is very likely that the CIA is envolved.
Think about it, the realease of winds will literally be a matter of US national security and make impact across the whole US empire.
There most certainly is a drawer with copies of everything gurm wrote, including majority of The Winds of Winter, there are CIA agents infiltrated among George s assistants and minions and staff, maybe even the housekeepers.
It is highly likely that George even got cornered multiple times into writing a different kind of story.
Preston is most certainly a CIA operative trying to rally the fandom into a certain direction, as exemplified by his reaction to the play, which had some faults, but he lets nothing slide and focuses more on the same complaints the twitter ao3 kinds have about is the Lyanna Rhaegar realtion, on which he was more balanced in the past, many of his theories are good but always he hand waves some stuff and his theories have this anti cathartic twist to the more generally accepted theories. George isnt a fan of catharsis, since ut indeed is boring and repetitive, but his story still rhymes and isnt anti cathartic like some post modernist bs.
Anyonw who pushes the idea that George is this 2020 woke guy who wants to subvert everything like in some new Disney movie is either an idiot or most likely has an agenda, George's story is still fantasy, but with realistic outcomes and most importantly about the human heart in conflict with itself.
>>
>>25438196
Tyrion, it will be revealed he was Aerys' bastard child and Tywin hated him for that rather than being a dwarf.
>>
>>25438202
>focuses more on the same complaints the twitter ao3 kinds have about is the Lyanna Rhaegar realtion, on which he was more balanced in the past
I honestly agree. But you just gotta take the good with the bad sometimes with these kind of people, unless theyre literal manipulative obscuranist psychos. I think Preston has just been insanely swallowed up more than usual by the recent political climate, look how often he references epstein in that video. Unfortunately his criticisms are just correct, the play is a mess, I also give immense respect to people that care about characters having sensible motivations, not just fitting into the plot. And Elia's motivations to take down Aerys are as hollow as Preston points out. If it wasnt for this point I wouldnt have been as charitable to the rest of his criticisms. It is very very very easy to criticize something on technicalities. It is harder to notice and care about the fact that your characters are not actually people, you wouldn't believe how many people dont care about theur characters being people aslong as they remain characters that "fit" a contrived story, because that is the point of contrivance. To make things "flow" to be uncomplicated, simple, and surface level, and for many people thats all they can see.

>because it is.
It isn’t.
>Oily black stone is water element (squishers/mermen/walrusmen), while fused black stone is fire element (dragonlords).
Not really. The point they’re making is that the original dragons were probably aquatic.

Why do you morons always ignore that Asshai is said to be where dragons and such first originated? Presumably this is where fused stone magics would have originated. Asshai is a greasy ass city.

The idea that greasy/oily stone shares an origin point with fused black stone isn’t at all fart fetched. In fact it’s largely pointed at.
>>
>>25438315
More than one maester in the canon thinks that whoever left the greasy sea stone chair on the iron islands are the same people who built the foundation of the Hightower. There’s also a strong maze like similarity with the mazes of Lorath. These cultures likely interacted.

I think that when oily black stone is fused together it becomes dry. This is because dragonflame is used to melt/seal it.
>>
>>25438315
>The point they’re making is that the original dragons were probably aquatic.
I like this explanation, I’m gonna go with that for my headcanon.
Oily blackstone = sea dragon fish men
Dry black stone = land dragon lizard men

I've recently been in talks to get a book published, its only a small publisher, but a step up from self-publishing but the amount of changes they are demanding - this includes sex and race swaps has made me think GRRM reason for not writing anymore is due to this after seeing the the last few TV shows and its taking his ideas the wrong way and he cant say this is the reason due to political reasons keeping him silent. I could also see his motivation being destroyed with how shit the shows are vs the books, I once ran a TTRPG for over 20 years with the same group of friends, once after a party wipe a friend offered to GM so I could play for once, he kept it in the same world and stuff we all built over the years but I could see he had no heart in the world building I spent hours on a week and that left a bad taste in my mouth when it came back to me GMing and fleshing out what just happened in our last campaign.

>>
>>25439778
Very high. It’s George and he and HBO love milking the franchise
>>
Doesn't the play actually portray Elia Martell as a retard rather than a political genius? Lyanna Stark was betrothed to Robert. Betrothals are very important in this society. Rhaegar eloping with her was a grave insult to Robert/Baratheons.

Elia in the play wanted to increase the standing of her house and plans to depose king aerys. Her plan is to get Rhaegar and subsequently her kids on the throne.

Rather than asking Rhaegar to end the relationship between him and Lyanna, she encourages and even allows him to make her his 2nd wife. How is this a politically good move? It's the opposite. Ultimately her actions lead to the rebellion and her loved ones dying (also thanks to Brandons and rickards deaths and aerys wanting Robert and ned dead)
>>
>>25438275
>And Elia's motivations to take down Aerys are as hollow as Preston points out. If it wasnt for this point I wouldnt have been as charitable to the rest of his criticisms.
No, he's a moron who hasn't even watched the fucking thing
>>
>>25439905
you don't really understand how normalfags think, let me try to illuminate things for you

They don't judge someone's intelligence by whether their actions make logical sense or are effective or anything like that. They judge their intelligence by how they act and how they speak. Elia probably girlbosses around on stage and uses flowery language and acts confident when making these dumb shit political moves. For normalfags, that is enough. All they care about is image.

>>
>half of the thirty years since ASOIAF creation has been waiting for a single novel
Unfathomably grim.
>>
>>25438315
idk, maybe. Keep in mind, Asshai is also a port city, and has similarities with places like Yeen (except for being somewhat less cursed). Oily black stone is always near the ocean, as a rule. And the origin of dragons is shrouded in the mists of time.
Admittedly there could be a relation or common origin, even if they are two different things.
>fart fetched
lol

>>25439905
All I can think of is that Elia intentionally fomented the Rebellion, hoping it would be put down, and that Aerys would be weakened in the process. That would certainly achieve her goals, although that's a wild gamble, and one that ended up wiping her out.
>>
>>25440021
It's truly mindblowing
He had SO MANY choices and he picked the road of not writing anything at all to turbo destroy his legacy

He could have split it into 2 books like dance/feast
He could have just extended the series beyond 7 books
He could have ignored the main series and written spinoffs like d&e, instead those all languish at 40% completion as well

Any of these and he receives universal acclaim. He is such a useless fucking idiot it's insane
>>
I’m like a week late so I don’t know how the discourse has shaped up since the leaks started coming out, but the play surprised me positively with the characterizations they went with.
Deranged Rhaella is better than Naerys 2.0
Political involved Elia with hapless husband who is completely out of his depth.
Ragebaiter Aerys.
Robert presented as a charming if boisterous young man who gets completely hooked on Lyanna when she helps him through his grief.
Irony of Lyanna becoming a barefoot tradwife bearing a prince’s son, etc.

It’s probably the first time I’ve ever been excited by the potential of a Robert’s Rebellion show, so long as they tack on Harrenhal tourney as the 1st season (à la Dunk & Egg season 1).
>>
>rhaegar was about to kill Robert but Robert got saved by divine intervention because a greenseer in the future saw that he needed to die so that so and so could happen

A reminder that the gay stage play is not canon and should be ignored for the obvious propaganda it is.
>>
>>25439905
Aerys was insane it was impossible to work out any deal with him. Elia just wanted to get rid of him first and then deal with the rebels.
Also Rhaegar in the play is completely broken, he defeats Robert without much trouble and would've won the throne if he didn't have a dream mid fight.
>>
>>25440120
Of all the stupid shit this play did, that change is by far the most egregious. Even woke cattle dislike it.
>>
>>25439344
The prologue is one of the best chapters in the book
>>
>>25439905
According to the latest leaks, that’s not what happens. At first, she just suggests that Rhaegar entertain Lyanna, who is the future lady of the Stormlands at this point (so winning a potential ally among both the Starks and Baratheons). Rhaegar and Lyanna becoming smitten with each other isn’t at all what she was planning for.

Later in the play, her allowing Rhaegar to treat Lyanna as his second wife is her Hail Mary attempt at getting Rhaegar involved in the war again, because at this point he’s been in hiding for several months. It’s not at all ideal for her, but it’s her only way of bringing Rhaegar back into the fight and ensuring that at least her son will inherit after Rhaegar, if thr Targaryens can keep their throne.

>>
>>25440779
George wants you to think he’ll be revived because that’s what any other book would do. But they never learn, no matter how many times George hammers it home, they’ll always look for a familiar pattern
>>
>>25440794
Two bastards fighting over the north and Jon being let out of his vows because he actually died is just perfect. The entire setting - emnity between stark and bolton, the culture around bastardry, the culture of the north, the geography of the north - was crafted to enable this confrontation.
>>
>>25440804
D&D thought so too
>>
>>25440794
George does set up and payoff like any other author and Jon being revived has been set up and will be paid off. What you describe is a random events plot where George just writes to troll the reader and do the opposite of common fan theories, which has never been how he writes.
>>
>>25440825
He kinda does tho is the funny thing
>so the readers thought Ned was the protagonist, I killed him off unexpectedly so naturally the fans think oh Robb is the protagonist, he will avenge his father and become king. So of course I had to kill him
Direct quote from George
>>
>>25440830
Yes, he set up and paid off that this is an ensemble cast and even heroic characters can make mistakes and be punished for them. Ned and Robb's deaths were blatantly set up in all their chapters. This is because he follows basic literary conventions, for instance setting up that Jon will be betrayed for multiple chapters and then setting up that he will be revived for multiple chapters. That's his entire gardener approach. Tell me this, genuinely delusional retard, putting aside the fact that he's already confirmed he's writing Jon chapters for TWOW, what literary point would Melisandre's chapters fucking serve if she did NOT revive Jon?
>>
>>25440821
That's your argument, bro? It happened in the tv show, so it can't be canon? You're fucking retarded.
>>
>>25440830

I think we will eventually get Winds of Winter. Even if ol' George kicks the bucket before releasing it, he'll have written enough for someone to post-humously cobble together something.

So what is the consequence for Jon coming back? Will he lose himself like Beric was or Stoneheart did? Most people expect that it will be old Jon again, with white hair maybe, and his reaction to R+L=J will be not too different than that of how he would react in book 5 if he learned then.
>>
>>25441356
Ned is not a cuck, he just had a crush on a girl that didn't reciprocate.
Robert is a cuck and he has been confirmed a cuck since the first book.
>>

Robert wasn’t a cuck. He was playing the long game and was soon going to take a prime Myrcella into his bed.

>>
>>25441356
While not exactly character assassination it was always a little weird that Ned seemingly gave no shits about Ashara in those 15 year, specially if she really is Jon's mother, now it makes more sense. Plus them getting cucked and being close friends for so long makes sense with both being tied to their sorrows and such but maybe i'm reading too much into it.

Jon may be more or less than he was, who knows? I can guarantee his character doesn't stay the same. Since he's still a pov the changes will be gradual and maybe subtle but definitely noticeable. Personally i would've removed him from being a pov and made whatever change he undergoes more drastic but George likes his Aragorn so he stays i guess.

I see that point, although tbf, Gandalf was a Maiar and above ordinary beings. Sauron also died in the drowning of Numenor and resurrected, the cost being that he could no longer assume a fair form.

At this point, going against R+L=J, or Jon warging into ghost and being resurrected, would be TLJ levels of "subverting expectations".

Speaking as a tourist but it always make me smile how people talk about GRRMs vision or his plans or his blah blah blah as if there's a snowballs chance in hell that he's going to finish those books. His thoughts on the story are no better than fanfiction at this point, well, worse because fanficters actually write.

Yes, obviously dumbass. I guess you could say ASOIAF has done more damage to the type of retards that think of the medieval period no longer as an abstract set of features, but think of Westeros as historically realistic

What happens next, is it another Aegon IV scenario but worse
>>
>>25441448
It’s not even the consequences of Gandalf’s redirection that George Hates, it’s that it ruins that moment when Gandalf this badass wizard just dies in the middle of the story, making it so you’re always on edge because anyone could die at any minute, even those we think have plot armor and are the most important. He loved that the hobbits now have to find their own way without this leader figure carrying them on their backs. That’s what the nights watch is now. They and the wildlings will now have to find a way to stop the others without Jon, and that’s what makes it so fun and good

What historical period? Westeros has never claimed to be a clone of Medieval Europe any more than Konosuba has
>>
>>25442347
Why would it be disproven?
>>
>>25442381
Westeros is really obviously supposed to be Britain. The narrow sea is the channel and the wall is Hadrian's wall.

Other locations, like the free cities, valyria, asshai whatever are ultimately set dressing and irrelevant to the real plot action that all happens in Westeros. This mirrors real life where every ethnic group and culture outside of great britain and it's colonies is ultimately irrelevant and exists to provide flavour
>>
>>25442381
GRRM has made the claim that it's mostly correct.
>“Now there are people who will say to that, ‘Well, he’s not writing history, he’s writing fantasy—he put in dragons, he should have made an egalitarian society.’ Just because you put in dragons doesn’t mean you can put in anything you want. If pigs could fly, then that’s your book. But that doesn’t mean you also want people walking on their hands instead of their feet. If you’re going to do [a fantasy element], it’s best to only do one of them, or a few. I wanted my books to be strongly grounded in history and to show what medieval society was like, and I was also reacting to a lot of fantasy fiction. Most stories depict what I call the ‘Disneyland Middle Ages’—there are princes and princesses and knights in shining armor, but they didn’t want to show what those societies meant and how they functioned.
So some magic, some dragons, some other bullshit but it tries to "Show what those societies meant and how they functioned"

I literally just said i wouldn't even say "disproven" per se. I'm discussing what nuggets of truth can be found in the play and the kid dying only makes sense for the show because there's no Edric in that continuity. You were not supposed to take the leaks verbatim when the books and the show have vastly different plots.

I can't believe this fat retard thinks he can resolve Stannis, Aegon's landing, Daenerys' landing, the entire Long Night including the Wall falling, Euron's whole bullshit, a post-long night civil war and all the other billion plot threads he's created in just TWO books.

It's literally not possible to cover that much ground in a satisfactory way. It would be rushed to shit. If he did actually sit down and write them (he won't) they would be some of the worst novels ever written. He should've just finished Dunk&Egg for fucks sake
>>
>>25442593
So you get to pick and choose what you think is canon from the play based on what exactly?
>>
>>25442602
Logic. In the show there's no Edric and Jon plays himself and the part that will likely be of Aegon because the dragon doesn't have 3 heads there and there's no AA or lightbringer. You're free to elaborate on how i'm wrong though.
>>
>>25442616
This is a non-sequitur. The show not having Edric does not prove that Ashara was pregnant with Ned's child.

Also what does Edric even have to do with Ashara's pregnancy?
>>
>>25440939
I don't know the context for him saying this but I kind of feel like thats the kind of thing you say so that an insane fan doesn't kill you to get the plot of your books sooner.

>>
>>25442593
The play is book continuity because Whent is at the TOJ and the play explicitly has Jon be Rhaegar and Lyanna's kid, wtf are you even arguing?
>>
>>25442674
3s that are opposed to 7s = 3 headed dragon symbol, opposed to the 7 gods
Whent therefore has to have dragon in him. Dayne and Hightower come from dragon stock of proto Valyria, so that tracks. The only way it works is if Oswell defends from aemond
>>
>>25442624
It isn't. Think of it as a game of musical chairs where the show only has one with the promised prince prophecy and Jon fulfilling that role as the secret dragon. That is it. On the books the plot is more complex and there would be many chairs, three for the dragonriders, one for Azor, one for Nissa, one for lightbringer and one for the promised prince. Even with overlap there's no single person wearing all of those hats.
Edric is Jon's milk brother that is, they were nursed as infants by the same wet nurse. R+L=J would have you believe that some unnamed Dayne nicknamed his son after Eddard for reasons and that instead Ashara had a miscarriage. I'm saying she didn't and since both her and Brandon have dark hair...
>>
>>25442746
I don't follow. Are you saying Edric is Eddard's son? How would his hair color be explained by that since Eddard also has dark hair?

Also he was born several years after Ashara died by Arya's estimate and Edric's own admission. He would have to be a severely undeveloped teen for him to successfully lie about that.

>“We knew that Sheepstealer's rider, that character causes extreme strife for Daemon and Rhaenyra's relationship. And that was sort of the place that we started in. We felt in Season 2 that we were telling the story of the dragonseeds pretty completely and robustly in terms of all the different walks of life that come to riding dragons,” Condal explained. “And it felt like pairing a wild dragon with a lady of noble blood that then becomes somewhat feral herself, which is a very interesting story to tell that helped keep us at the core of where we wanted to take Rhaenyra and Daemon's relationship.”
>Condal continued, “It did not feel like, to us, an infidelity story [between Daemon and Nettles] was someplace that we wanted to go with Daemon and Rhaenyra given everything they had been through to this point. I think the audience really wants to see this couple work out, but they both have inextricable natures to them that they can only get so far away from. >The dragon abducts the princess to the top of a tower.
Deconstruction done well. Especially if it's morally gray, he seduces but misleads Lyanna who is young and naive, holding her captive while the kingdom burns because of it. Works great for both characters.
>Cool guy prince and misunderstood tomboy girl who won't be held down by their station and societal expectations (completely reasonable ones) who cause the deaths of their families by absconding to take long naps together (They both have powers but they're different powers, different as ice and fire. like heaven and hell.)
This might actually ruin the series for me, and the worst of all is the series is now in some limbo where I can't even judge for myself because it's being put forth in the worlds gayest medium.

Ok but Arya says he looks like he's 12 and he says he's 12.
You're saying he's a 16 yo that's so underdeveloped he passes for a 12 yo. That's a stretch and very convenient.
>>
>>25442915
And more stupid than Jon just being Rhagear and Lyanna's considering his age perfectly matches.
>>
>>25442915
Height and personally are the things that would matter the most to a child when trying to guess someone's age. The entire chapter makes him look meek and if he is the same height or not much taller than Arya, when he turns and says he's twelve she would have no reason to doubt him.
A bit tangential but still on the topic, despite Edric being the one who brings up the subject of Jon's mother, when Arya actually presses for an answer he doesn't respond, merely stating that Wylla is his wet nurse. Which seems to me like either Wylla herself told him all of this or he himself is lying.
>>
>>25442965
This is a huge stretch and I have no idea why you'd think that the confirmation that Ashara was pregnant somehow validates this.

The alternative is that Eddard went down to Starfall to drop Arthur's sword and three years later either Wylla or some Dayne lord nicknames his son "Ned" for no reason. Even if Jon is Lyanna's saying that both Neds never even met feels silly, hence why i believe they are of similar age.
>>
>>25443092
Definitely that as well. Rhaegar, Lyanna and Roberts stories all nuked to shit. As a single event the fight is the most egregious, but it's also the most likely to be pure spin for the play.
>>
>>25443093
Naming a kid after someone else does not require that kid meeting the person they're named after lmao. See: Robert Arryn or Rhaegar Frey. Edric isn't even fully named after Eddard, their names are ultimately spelled differently in the full forms. I'm not even sure in your theory why the Daynes would give Ashara and Brandon's son to Ned while keeping Edric, who in your theory I assume is Rhaegar and Lyanna's kid and named after Ned for some reason.
>>
>>25443108
>Edric isn't even fully named after Eddard
Correct! Which makes it way more on the nose when you nickname the kid Ned when otherwise there would be no reason to
>why the Daynes would give Ashara and Brandon's son to Ned while keeping Edric
Because if Rhaegar's kid had white hair that would've been the only way to keep the boy safe. And again the leaks seem to imply that everyone was pretty much on board with Rhaegar and his dreams/plans so that also tracks
>>
>>25442903
Actually this being the best twist George could think of to portray Rhaegar in a good light after years of thinking might explain why the series is dead.
>>
>>25443092
The Rhaegar has a dream mid fight is so fucking lame... hopefully its another show-only thing. Same for the Lyanna is a fucking GREENSEER somehow lol silly Bran didn't know he could be one without going north of the wall
>>
>>25443131
>Because if Rhaegar's kid had white hair that would've been the only way to keep the boy safe. And again the leaks seem to imply that everyone was pretty much on board with Rhaegar and his dreams/plans so that also tracks
So why would Ned take Brandon and Ashara's son? Why would the Daynes let Ned take the only remaining piece of Ashara when there's no need because Brandon's son is not remotely in any danger? Why would they name a kid that they're trying to keep hidden after the brother of his fucking mother and then allow him to go with Beric to King's Landing in full sight of the king who hates that boy's father? Compare that to Ned's behavior concerning Jon, which makes far more sense if, you know, Jon is Rhaegar's son. Because Ned wouldn't have to fucking lie if he was Brandon's bastard.

I don't know what to tell you, it's a nickname. At the end of the day many years have passed, ashen hair is not exactly unheard of in Westeros and the kid's name is Edric. Its only on the nose for us the readers.
>>
>>25443313
>Because people talk and he came with a baby so he needs to leave with a baby? You didn't think this one through did you lol
A baby that has a completely different hair color and eye color, yes. You didn't respond to the point about why he needs to lie about Brandon's bastard.
>>
>>25443317
Yes i think hiding the contenance of a newborn is perfectly within the realm of possibility. Hiding the mere existence of said newborn however wouldn't be so easy. And call me retard but i think there would be a few questions if he just left a kid there and questions to one infant would invariably draw suspicion to the other. Fortunately he's smarter and took the kid he could claim its his.
>>
>>25443362
So you think they had an elaborate baby swap plan to maintain appearances, involving taking Ashara's baby away from his family and Lyanna's baby from his family, and the Daynes just carelessly let Edric go to King's Landing. Did they lie to Edric about his age and that's why he told Arya that? That would be very hard to pull off. Or maybe they told Edric the truth and he of his own volition decided to lie about his age? If Ned had Brandon's bastard, why not at least tell Catelyn so she wouldn't hate him instead of telling her that Jon was his? Your theory has a billion questions that makes the whole thing look stupid vs the pretty much unassailable R+L=J, which has absolutely no objections besides "George isn't doing it because according to me it's cliche bro"

>Did they lie to Edric
Edric knows everything, beyond just being unfeasible it would literally be impossible. The Dayne are a big house, very old, people know them. So naturally the question of from whom this kid is would arise and they couldn't simply invent a Dayne out of thin air. So to one who knows them they would have to say he is Ashara's and just avoid the subject with everyone else. In fact him bringing Jon's parentage out of nowhere was probably a misguided attempt at helping Jon (and himself) maintain their hidden identities.
>Your theory has a billion questions

Look i just don't think Jon is Azor AND another secret Targ, that's it. And R+L=J requires you to contort yourself to explain how he can be both. So given the sheer amount of foreshadowing on him being AA, i tend to lean towards that.

They did invent a Dayne out of thin air, wtf do you mean. He's not considered a bastard, he's considered the rightful heir of the older brother of Ashara and Arthur and is head of House Dayne after Lord Dayne died. The mechanics required to fake Edric being a legitimate Dayne despite supposedly being a Targaryen (according to you) beggars belief. No one looks that much into Jon because he's supposedly a wartime bastard, making Edric the legitimate heir of House Dayne, one of the most important Dornish houses, would be stupid if the intent is to keep him lowkey.
>Look i just don't think Jon is Azor AND another secret Targ, that's it. And R+L=J requires you to contort yourself to explain how he can be both. So given the sheer amount of foreshadowing on him being AA, i tend to lean towards that.
Jon in fact might not be AA, or it might be more complicated than it being one person. Jon being AA is far more in doubt from my perspective than him being a secret Targ. Even if he IS AA and a secret Targ, how would that be weird? The woods witch did say TPTWP would come from Aerys and Rhaella's line. Jon being AA and a secret Targ doesn't necessarily mean he's going to have a generic fantasy hero's journey, it would most certainly suck for him to be AA and a Targ.
>>
>>25443417
We aren't getting the books, but I don't think the blog post is really an indicator of that.
>The worst is yet to come
Refers to all of his friends dying.
>>
>>25443518
I was discussing Edric in the context of him being the secret Targ bastard and how there's likely no unnamed Dayne as his father but nevermind that, is not important.
>Jon being AA is far more in doubt from my perspective than him being a secret Targ
Elaborate, i honest to God can not see how anyone can read Jon's chapters and not come to the certainty that he is Azor, because the books are THAT blatant with just how much hints and lore are dropped every other chapter either through the actual plot or Mel.
And the thing is that even if the Azor Ahai hat can be worn by multiple people, it is still crystal clear to me that Jon will end up as THE guy himself at least in-universe. I say this on the basis of his resurrection alone, nevermind a possible lightbringer however that may come.
>>
>>25443604
I think Jon will definitely have an important role, but Mel asking for AA and seeing Jon seems a little on the nose in the same way Dany getting called AA is very on the nose. Mel believing Jon is AA will definitely be important to the plot, not least because it means she will revive him, but I don't think it will be as simple as him being the super special prophesized savior. It might be ambiguous who is AA even by the end of the series if things play out in a way that multiple people might have fulfilled the prophecy. That seems more up George's alley. I'm surprised you think that there are more AA hints for Jon than him being a secret Targ prince, the books all but hit you on the head with it, from the physical descriptions of him being lithe and a pretty boy to his fighting style to all the ironic lines about him (a prince shouldn't fight a bastard with Joffrey, kings are a rare sight in the north, Jon's mother left none of herself in him, etc) to Jon's dreams about the Kings of Winter judging him. I mean it beats you over the fucking head with it.

It’s just his pride / denialism. He won’t ever admit that he can’t do it. Much better to keep using excuses like “I’m so busy”, “I have so much travel”, “muh other works”, etc.

The saddest part about this isn't knowing that he'll never finish Winds, let alone the rest of the series. I think deep down we all already knew that.

The saddest part about this post is how it more or less confirms that he'll truly never allow anyone else to posthumously finish ASOIAF for him after he inevitably prematurely croaks.

Fat selfish prick. I genuinely love GRRM but I cannot fucking stomach him.
>>
>>25444203
I wonder if anyone would even want it now. It's probably a bitch to pick up, you've got a rattled fanbase that hates the planned ending, and the author, you have a writer who uses a typewriter and no digital writing tools and a series that has an immense about of pressure on it that will never live up to expectations.

What could happen is that when he dies, any manuscripts will be bundled together and sold for a quick buck. Downside is that he has no Christopher Tolkien in the wings to tidy it all up because of his pride.

What will likely happen is nothing is released. We accept the shitty ending that we got in the show, HBO MCUs the fuck out of the franchise whilst it still has a bit of life in it and then it'll be forgotten after that. And it will all be his fault.

Asshai, the Shadow, are said to be the homeland of dragons, or where the first dragon breeders came from, and they’re said to have taught the Valyrians this art or craft. You need dragon flame to make fused black stone. Asshai is a greasy black stone city.

What does this fucking tell you? They’re probably sourced to the same culture.

Original True Theory: There are only three Targaryens in existance symbolized by the three headed dragon wrongly attributed to the conqueror by maesters. >>
>>25445035
>>25445005
Expanse and First Law feel close but they don’t scratch the itch that ASOIAF did for me. Expanse is good for the political plot that ASOIAF does well (the authors are also former assistants/protégées of George) and First Law has good POV characters. First Law is closest I’d say and the characters are written well and it has a good villain. It’s a lot more simple than ASOIAF whereas Expanse is grander.

I wouldn't say I like ASOIAF for the power plays/politics per se, more like the wealth of psychological complexity.
King Fatso has got a great theory of mind, he is great at thinking like characters very different from him in terms of upbringing, gender, age, peculiarities, that's why the books feel so rewarding to read
>>
>>25445021
Almost certainly would have been part of Robb's guard and would have died at the Whispering Woods or the Red Wedding. Taking the black definitely did save his life.

I don't know, I think Ghost would have stopped him getting skewered by the Kingslayer. He makes it to the red wedding and maybe even survives that, since Cat would've prevented him from being inside the hall

>>
>>25445074

>Whispering Wood
Less than 200 Stark soldiers died there out of 6000 deployed.
Even assuming being in the vanguard increases his exposition to danger, the odds are still something like 10% against 90%
>>
>>25445097
>There's nothing psychologically complex about Joffrey or Ramsay
Correct, because both IRL and in these books, not everyone has a rich mental and emotional life.
But a lot of people do, and that's why there's actual genius in possessing a valid theory of mind for multiple and vastly different individuals
>>
>>25445125
My point was more that he has two pretty risky places that he'd likely die. Even if he made it past Whispering Wood, he's almost certainly dead at the Red Wedding, whether he's in the hall or not. Not that being part of the Watch is much safer, but at least there he's not being guided towards the biggest "rocks fall, everyone dies" event in the series. The only thing that might have saved Jon is that Robb might have sent him north after the Ironborn attacks.
>>
If a Red Wedding and a Purple Wedding exist, there must also be a Blue Wedding somewhere in the story, waiting to appear
>>
>>25445133
You simply do not understand what the word "psychologically" means, if you are going with the brainlet midwit retard "Erm some people are just like that!" take, which is a fundamentally pre psychology "People were too retarded to understand the human mind" pre 1800s perspective.

I don't think Walder would betray Robb if he had a Frey queen. And when it comes to cool stuff, there's a social contract where consumers buy & support it, and creators try their best to churn out said cool stuff. There seems to be no banditry in Westeros in times of peace, except for the Moon Mountains barbarians which are in a different district.
It's probably not convenient for bandits to try to strike so close to the capital because the king is too near to turn a blind eye in case anyone complains about having ambushed and lost all their hard-earned wealth
>>

> Maybe, but there's other possibilities. Perhaps Asshai used to be underwater, and its stone was made with underwater flame.
That is something I’ve already mentioned you potato. Greasy black stone could be greasy precisely because it’s from the sea and it lost its greasy status after being fused dry.
> And no I'm not trolling, the latter is mentioned by Patchface
“It’s always summer beneath the sea”.

There are volcanic vents under the sea. Summer. The original dragons were likely sea serpents or sea wyrms (there are deep sea worms living around volcanic vents).

Whoever left the greasy black stone were likely the “deep ones” from Lovecraft that George clearly took inspiration from.

This all still points to them being related. The possibility of greasy black stone and fused dry black stone not being related in some way is quite slim.

Fused black stone might be an advanced form of oily black stone that incorporated flame, heat, dryness, etc, to make. Idk.

>500,000 population it HAS TO rely on local produce
Pretty sure ancient Rome got significantly bigger and relied heavily on grain imports from Egypt at a time. Westeros is also much bigger, richer, and mercantile than ancient Rome.

Also we know its to the south of the river but do we know exactly how far?
>>
>>25447792
Rome didn't have a giant forest next to, I actually don't think Italy had any forests.

Comparing King's Landing to Rome isn't really fair, Rome got its food from Sicily, Tunisia and Egypt. And the sea connection was pretty straightforward.
Maybe Reach could produce enough surplus for King's Landing, but the difficulty is getting it there.
Like by land, transportation would be slow, and horses would end up eating half the food before.
If you do it by ship, you'd have to go around Westeros, which itself is lengthy, and have to go through the stormy sea next to Stormlands.

You could technically do it with oxcarts, because oxen can pasture on the side of the road without eating fodder. But oxen are extremely slow, like only 10km per day. Which itself would mean Roseroad is constantly being blocked by thousands ox carts.
>>
>>25447829
Damn I can't believe all these years I've been on this earth and I didnt think about the logistical transportation problems of having to feed the horses transporting the food kek. The world almost seems inherently complicated sometimes.

>>
>>25447829
>Rome didn't have a giant forest next to, I actually don't think Italy had any forests.
Which supports my point that you don't need hyperlocal wood production.
There's also mentions of trade from Essos throughout the series. Kings Landing is the center of trade in the kingdom and likely to afford grocers the chance to fetch much higher prices for their wares. Not to mention a lot of this trade could be carried by river.
>the logistical transportation problems of having to feed the horses transporting the food
Horses eat grass, and hay would be fairly easy to come by in Westerosi inns.

I feel that a lot of the confirmed things from the play, just means that a lot of the current theories for pretty much anything there is a theory about, are probably correct. Like every really popular theory is probably just 80% true, with someinor changes.
Also we've had 15 years to dwell on theories there isn't anything George can write that would be so far from a popular theory
