>>25447261>Kaladin the Paladin found him squatting in an almost squatting position in the grass, making groaning sounds like a shartspren makes at dusk when the feces is paste-like and thin, like a turd sprayed in stinky air. Every stoolspren was looser than the one before, and smelled bad, like shit. By the time the moon came up like a big shitplate in the sky made of poo rocks he was shitting brown water, which is the colour of mud or another brownoid thing. The more he drank, the more shatspren appeared around him, but the more he shat, the more thirstspren popped into existence around him, and his thirstyness sent him crawling to the stream to suck up more shit. He felt like he could drink the feeling and then crush the feelings-can by smashing it into his forehead. When he closed his eyes at last, Shzitter did not know whether he would be strong enough to open them again: he was shartxhausted.
>>25447001I guess first things first. Were you making your observations having read Crown of stars already? Secondly, I'm pretty sure Crown of Stars' first book was published around the same time as Game of thrones, so unless Kate and George were secretly colleagues I don't see how he could have taken from her.Thirdly even if we were to find out that Crown of Stars did have an influence on ASOIAF, I don't know why you'd care so much about that one influence over any of the other many more obvious and bigger name influences we know George takes from. The similarities you note seem superfluous, now, I haven't read Crown of Stars, but the Viking orc you say inspired Azor Ahai if a true Viking, a pretty big part of vikings is the ships they used to raid. Where is the significance of ships for Azhor?
>>25447429I just used the word Viking as a stand in for like “raider” or whatever, Bloodheart is a warlord with many sons and wives from the northern part of the continent who’s tribe was exposed to dragon blood giving them a dragon-like aspect, and they became this savage orc-like foreign invading force, conquering other tribes. This stood out to me because I theorized before that azor ahai was a barbarian raider type rather than an imperious aristocrat, and was connected to huzor amai who has multiple wives and conquered many tribes and is kinda orc coded (he skins other races and wears their skins) What really hammered it home was when I was reading the Dothraki dictionary and realized “Azor” means Bladeheart (az=blade, zhor = heart), wich sounds a lot like bloodheart
>>25447466Oh so its just conspiracy level theory crafting, which, I honestly can't dog on in the context of fiction, but I can point out how not immediately logical the connection seemed and therefore it threw me off. So have you read Crown of Stars? They're surprisingly long books from what I can gather online. If your theory happens to be right that would be pretty cool
>>25447479I just skimmed through the descriptions of the books and the fan wiki when I made those observations, I just bought the series and started book 1, I like it so far, If I find anything more supporting my theory I’ll post them here I’m gonna read them all

>>25447304George said they have no culture. Why does he hate them? They clearly make swords and armor. Or is he saying they are merely a mockery of what they were originally? A mockery of human culture? If they were originally human then this would make sense.
>>25447681I think you’re right, they are a mockery of humans. Bitter tree spirits and cotf used humans to create a counter race to extinguish the flame of human ambition

George ultimately decided to abandon this but….what if this path has been taken before in history? Someone who parallels dany. Some one who started out in the Dothraki sea, went east conquering, and then crossing the sunset sea to Westeros. Azor ahai = grey king?

>>25447261the biggest flaw in ASOIAF, in my opinion, is the dothraki. GRRM created a world with great political structures that are viable and believable but as a person of Turkic descent, by god the dothraki are just so fucking awful and they wouldn't last 5 fucking years in the real steppes of Eurasia
>>25449190>that are viable and believablelol youre a dumbass if you think dorne is viable, and if you think the iron bank is believabledumbass
>>25449195even if they aren't that realistic they are nowhere as unrealistic as the dothraki, I wonder what george was thinking whilst creating them. >>25449218>doesnt know that Dothraki were simply the outriders of The Great Empire of the Dawn who got nvked into the savages they are now by the bloodstone emperorngmi
>>25449190>>25449198The Dothraki are recognizably derived from Golden Age Hollywood depictions of Hun, Mongol & Sioux raiders. This explains why they're fantastical roaming armies quite unlike real steppe cultures. Also the fact that their main weapon is a scimitar, instead of the reflex bow.>>25447304No one, to my knowledge, has properly captured the Others as depicted in the first prologue, but this comes within a stones' throw at least.
>>25449368More like the Dothraki decend from the horseman of the apocalypse, orc-like horse riding savages who raped Essos after the fall of the dawn empire which coincided with the long night, who then crossed the poison water after felling ygg in the grey waste and became the ironborn
>>25448415>Why do people in ASOIAF eat like fucking animalsbasically the ruling class of westeros are gigantic faggots and the war is an attempt to get rid of them, but unlike maoism it was unsystematic. if only westeros had had a mao

This explains why they're fantastical roaming armies quite unlike real steppe cultures. Also the fact that their main weapon is a scimitar, instead of the reflex bow.right, theyre an incoherent pastiche of tropes, whereas the tatooine guys were recognizably middle eastern peoples not because lucas is any less of an abjectly retarded liberal faggot than martin but because the pastiche went through less rearrangements. liberals are incapable of believing that anyone else doesnt want to be a liberal and only isnt because they lack the money so they cant portray anyone accurately to show each other

>>25449447It just feels contradictive since GRRM explicitly criticized Tolkien about ''Aragorn's tax policy''. How do the dothraki feed their hordes, George?
good fucking god I just want stannis to fucking destroy the boltons and freys and for Rickon to return from Skagos as a chad with wolf blood like his uncle Brandon. I just want that, nothing else.
>>25448204
>>25449190>created a world with great political structures that are viable and believableLol, absolutely not. GRRM's worldbuilding is laughably over the top. The Dothraki are only marginally more retarded than a continent of eternal noble dynasties stuck in perpetual feudalism, or a city-state with economy focused entirely on training whores.
>>25450402Facts. I find it funny that he made this comment about Tolkien when nothing in the economy or politics of the seven kingdoms makes any sense beyond surface value.
>>25450383>>25450407grrm was always a pseud. From the first chapter of the first book, to these inane quotes. He always came across a pompous fat headed twat. Mentalists like him always let it go straight to their heads, like steffen king and his "writing rules" limerick or whatever
>>25450407I agree with GRRM here in principle that the fact that Tolkien doesn't even bother to ask or answer these questions is bad, or at the very least not complex or particularly interesting. You can't have the concept of a king, without addressing the complex social and economic factors that maintain a king's power/rule, which is where value judgements are ultimately introduced, was your rule maintained? Or did your line/policies die, and if they did, but not as a result of poor rule, then why did it happen? See how many simple but more elaborating, and layered (building upon prior ideas) explorations can be produced just from asking the question at all? George may not do it as realistically and complicatedly as you'd expect from someone who even cares about those questions. But he probably asks those questions the most in the fantasy genre, and that alone matters alot. Seriously go read the shit typical and even popular and successful fantasy deals with. Its all typically too abstract for any of the themes to mean anything beyond projecting exactly what you want to see in the world onto a fictional playground for you to indulge in.
>>25450439maybe the reason Tolkien didn't bother was because its otherwise unimportant and has nothing to do with the story? AKA the reason he's writing a book at all?
>>25450439That argument would hold merit if Tolkien’s focus was on politics like George. Tolkien’s world building is in the literal world, the songs, the magic, the stories and the history of middle-earth. Westeros is based on a fuedal Europe where there were tax policies and other stuff like that. In fact, now I think about it I don't think George ever explained what the ASOIAF tax polices are. More time is spent on descriptions of food than anything else.
>>25450446We literally have no solid idea what a golden dragon can buy lol. I stopped thinking about the westerosi economy alltogether
Not to mention how the fuck were they feeding their dragons? What was Jaehaerys's dragon feeding policy? What do they eat and how much?
>>25450407Not to defend George, because he pisses me off so much these days, but I think this quote is about him saying is being a good man enough to make you a good king?In Middle-Earth, yes because that's the way it works there. The evil of that world is a magical one and it corrupts unlike ASOIAF where evil is a more common thing.
>>25448433sansa...
>>25450450like if you think about how much a single active human male has to eat, the dragons seem absurd. at least he should've explained some magic mumbo jumbo or talk about the cost of feeding them, or at least make them semi-hibernating when not in combat/flying
>>25450490>make them semi-hibernating when not in combat/flyingBut they are? Danys dragons in the pyramids are burrowing and making a next in the rock and need to be awoken, they like cats they just sleep until they're feed and then go back to sleep
>>25447261now, who do think George R. R. Martin favorite anime loli is?it got to be Ai Haibara right?
>>25450623Ilya and Kuro
>>25448447Based George
>>25447963I hope that George will expand on the concept, something like that the others are the consciousnesses of old greenseers transferred from the weireood into human bodies, and that they want to kill the children of forest too for some important reason, instead of them just turning one and going ooops we totally didnt see that coming
Do you think we will ever see winds?
>>25450891At this point i'd be satisfied with just knowing the nature and purpose of the others
>>25450896We likely know that from the show. They're a biological weapon that got out of hand and are now killing everything. The books would probably expand on it better, and give a far better resolution, but I can't see it being anything but that. I'd actually like to see them win and feel a threat because the show just teased them and then they were defeated like that.
>>25450901See>>25450890
>>25447963>>25450890Id prefer if it wasn’t an accident that spread out of control. Just have the children of the Forrest, or a faction of them, becoming so embittered and vengeful from the human subjugation that they create this abomination out of desperation. Just like in memory sorrow and thorn when the storm king combined iron with the sacred witchwood to create the blasphemous blade thorn. The children combined “iron”, or in this case “men of iron” with the sacred wierwood to create their blasphemous “sword”, the others That’s their own azor ahai story where humans are the darkness threatening all life
>>25448040Their backs were to the wall. The Children of the Forest blew up/sank the Arm of Dorne but the illegal mass migration of First Men kept coming, so they tried it again at the Neck but their magic was failing and instead of creating a channel, it only sunk the land a bit creating a swamp and the First Men (i.e. biggers) kept coming. At this point, the CotF pooled all their magic and went to the Dark Side, creating the Others from captured First Men but it back-fired on them, with the Others going rogue and killing everything in sight, forcing the CotF to ally with the First Men and the rest we know.>>25448558Sure, the point is that it was GRRM's idea, not Dumb & Dumber and this fits with his hippy boomer upbringing, where the threat of nuclear war was always hanging over his head. The Others are an apocalyptic weapon that actually got used and it fucked everything up.>>25450890>>25451108I don't need a detailed Dungeon Masters Manual explanation, that the Others turned into Frankenstein's Monster is enough.
>>25450891Personally I say yes.He gives us Winds and then croaks. Then (You) have to fill in the gaps and figure out how the story was supposed to end

>Somehow that seemed important Um. Does Marwyn know that Pate is a Faceless Man?
>>25452647He very well might, considering he knows about magical bullshit and has a glass candle. And the original Pate was kind of a dumbass who Marwyn wouldn't waste his time one, while the new one isn't, which surely must've been noticed by someone. Either Marwyn thinks that a faceless man could be useful for whatever he's planning and keeps Pate around because of that, or he has no way of revealing him without putting himself at risk.
Why does the Lord of light insist on Beric Dondarrion being alive? Is that actually what he wants or is thoros just capable of reviving someone constantly

>>25448355The Others weren't in Essos>>25451108From what we learned from the TV series, the Others were like an order of knights sworn to protect the Children of the Forest. They were created during the war against the First Men. The First Men couldn't defeat them, so they signed the Pact.Centuries later, the Andals arrived and slaughtered the Children of the Forest, cutting down their weirwoods. So the Others came back. They most likely killed any humans they encountered, making no distinction between the allies of the Children of the Forest, the First Men, and the Andals. The Last Hero convinced the Children of the Forest to side with men and destroyed their knights: the Others. The Others were betrayed by the very people they had sworn to protect and now they're pissed off.

what is the next series currently in book form only that is going to take off like ASOIAF did in your opinion?
>>25456203What do you mean by next series? 2025 and onward? 2020 onward? Or does have to literally be up and coming like right now, this year to next year? I don't even know if this entire board has read enough contemporary genre fiction to even say. The generic responses are something like Red Rising I think if talking pure "Rising" (pun intended) popularity. But if were talking something different and big that shakes up the genre and how its viewed and its potential to say more? That'll likely be a long time. I have a feeling some like that already exist which just fly under the radar, its not like ASOIAF was super popular b4 the show, not unpopular but not a phenomenon.
>>25456258>I have a feeling some like that already exist which just fly under the radar, its not like ASOIAF was super popular b4 the show, not unpopular but not a phenomenon.I personally was thinking along these lines, but was curious how others interpreted it any answered. I agree on Red Rising blowing up and taking the popularity reins
>>25456203Cosmere, if the adaptation turns out well.
>>25455817That's being a bit unfair to Preston, none of his theories are as out there as David's Great Empire of the Dawn autism. His Night's Watch, Cersei and Taena and Prepping for Winter series are all great.
>>25456744Shut the fuck up Preston simp
So now that George has basically confirmed it's over publicly, what are the odds we get milked with future books like "The Unfinished Works of GRRM" for years to come?
>>25456657I think it will be popular but I don’t know if Cosmere will get as big as Game of Thrones. Main reason is that Game of Thrones attracted the normie adult audience and Mistborn and Stormlight have a more YA feel about them, which may not attract the more grown up casual audience.
>>25456203None. ASOIAF was made famous by HBO GOT, no streamer got the same dominant role on the market today.
>>25456203>what is the next series currently in book form only that is going to take off like ASOIAF did in your opinion?Robert's Rebellion will be the next HBO tv show adaption and as the flamingly gay stage play is already out, the tv show will also be totally gay and woke as fuck.
KEKLMAOOOOO
>>25456657Cosmere is too YA and silly for people who don't usually like fantasyAlso I think Stormlight is just too long and high budget for an adaptation to work. Mistborn could work.
>>25457103Apple are making Stormlight and if you look at any of their shows, you can see that budget is not really their problem. They are consistently the best looking shows. The issue is that they’re never marketed so you rarely hear of them. I think that will change when ready for release as Apple will heavily be marketing and going wild with Cosmere. I think they will give it a big budget and happily so. It helps that Stormlight is being a TV show and Mistborn a movie so I think they can afford to drag Stormlight out compared to Mistborn which is more straightforward.
>>25457103Mistborn's getting a trilogy of movies, and SA is getting 10 episode seasons per book.I agree with you though. I feel like spren alone make Stormlight unadaptable in live action. I don't know how you can show them without it coming off as juvenile or cartoonish. I think Mistborn will do Dune numbers at the box office if he tightens it up enough.
>>25453485grrm actually travels with his wife a lot, I believe she's always in attendance at his convention appearances and speaking engagements, she's just ugly, old, and not famous so no one is going to take her photos. Him and Shae's actress are just cute friends.
>>25457118>cute friends He’s also horny down bad for her. During the filming of s4 or whenever Shae was in it, he kept mentioning about how many times he watched her audition tape.
>>25457128>her audition tape.I read that as "audition rape" and though "hmm makes sense"
>>25456070Fuck YoutubeRead the novellasExcept for the third, they're just generally comfy generic fantasy knight shenanigans
>>25456887unless he leaves instructions for his lawyers, wife, and assistants to physically destroy his work we are 100% going to get winds and a piecemeal version of spring. They are going to release another world of ice and fire, more fire and blood, there are probably some dunk and egg chapters stashed away. Not to mention all of the other fantasy and science fiction stories he's worked on. He probably has a few movie and tv scripts as well Unused elden ring notes too. I really hop he doesn't want to destroy his work after he dies because there's going to be a ton of good shit we'll never get to see. I personally don't even care if the unreleased stuff is bad, it'll still be interesting to read.
Please be kind to GRRM, it's hard being rich and not writing for a living.
George wanted to be a screenwriter and not an author and now he basically is. That’s why he hates Condal and D+D as they’re doing his job.
I think this current tactic of GRRM fishing for sympathy to avoid writing is disgusting, it's even worse than when he got petulant and sulky about it.
>>25457138Mario Puzo wrote this in a great novel about writers, Fools Die, decades ago:>"I've gone over Osano’s stuff,” I said, “as his executor.”>“Good,” Mr. Stiles said. “You may or may not know, since this is the financial end of Mr. Osano’s life, that we advanced him a hundred thousand dollars for his novel in progress. So we do have first claim to that book. I just wanted to make sure you understood that.”>“Sure,” I said. “And I know it was Osano’s wish that you publish it. You did a great job publishing his books.”>There was a grateful smile on Mr. Stiles’s face. He leaned back. “Then there’s no problem?” he said. “I assume you’ve gone through his notes and papers and you found the manuscript.”>I said, “Well, that’s the problem. There is no manuscript; there is no novel, only five hundred pages of notes.”>Stiles had a stunned, horrified look on his face and behind that exterior I know what he thought: Fucking writers, hundred-thousand-dollar advance, all those years and all he has is notes! But then he pulled himself together. “You mean there’s not one page of manuscript?” he said.>“No,” I said. I was lying, but he would never know. There were six pages.>...>I never told Mr. Stiles that Osano had written some pages of his novel, the first six. With them was a note addressed to me:>Merlyn, Here are the six pages of my book. I give them to you. Let’s see what you can make of them. Forget the notes, they’re bullshit. Osano>...>I read all his notes, over five hundred pages of them on long yellow sheets. They were brilliant notes. But notes are nothing.Mark my words, whatever gets published, someday we'll find that GRRM wrote jack shit of it.
>>25457151meh, I'm a writerit depends on how organized the notes arethere's some coherence to my notes, ofc not everything gets used but you can definitely see what ideas I'm developing, the setting, the atmosphere, characters, themes, and the genre I'm going for.George also claimed that he has no notes some years ago but we all know that's bullshit, I'm betting that his notes are detailed and written out quite a bit, and he definitely keeps unused or rewritten or revised chapters for asoiaf.
I only care about ancient lore worldbuilding and don’t care about the characters or the story in the modern era, it does nothing for me
>>25457172The point is that after GRRM is dead his executors and publishers don't need to follow his wishes. They can write their own ending that will be influenced by money and politics.
>>25457172>meh, I'm a writerThen you ought to know there's nearly as much difference between notes and finished manuscript as there is between a wikipedia plot summary and the actual novel
George did nothing wrong
>>25457185>his executors and publishers don't need to follow his wishes. Not how it works and it's not worth the legal ass kicking they'll receive, other famous writers have had their wills executed with instructions to destroy their work and those wishes are followed.Anyway IF George does leave his work available then yes we will get an ending that's influenced by various forces at play. It's only natural that it would happen that way because it's the only conclusion there is. But as far as asoiaf is concerned we already know the ending. He gave the ending to D&D, they fucked it up really badly though, and he's mentioned that fans already figured out the ending, It's Bran ending up as "king". I've talked about it in this general before. So as long as it follows what we already know I would be satisfied with an ending close to what he might have written had he finished the books himself.
>>25448392But at what cost?
>>25457196anon writers do occasionally release pieces of their notes, it's not all gibberish, it's often early versions of finished work that had minor tweaks. We're five books into asoiaf, it has three accompanying novellas, two history books, and a few other pieces, the characters and world and plot points are set in stone, there's not going to be any major differences between his notes and the published books.
>>25457212Yeah I've read some of those. Read some of the released Winds chapters too. That's not the pointThe point is, do you really think GRRM has much of anything else to *that* level of completion?LolLmao
>>25457221yes actuallyhe does write, he claims he's got over a thousand pages of Winds written, would be a silly thing for him to lie to his fans and publisher about
>>25457237And were is the evidence of it because I believe that all the released chapters are just cut ones from ADWD.
>>25457244this is a silly questionyou just need to take his word for itit's not like he doesn't produce any work at all, he's worked on television, movies, games, his novellas, and short stories. I could understand if he produced no work at all but that's not the case, he's still technically "good for it". We just have to wait and see.
>>25457016it's kinda unbelievable that Robert's Rebellion only lasted one year.Like, I feel that Eddard's forces mobilizing and arriving in the Trident itself would have taken 9 months

>>25457254>it's not like he doesn't produce any work at all, he's worked on television, movies, games, his novellas, and short storiesAnyone who's ever procrastinated knows that they do huge amounts of every work except that work which is being procrastinated

>>25457524still, just moving armies takes time
>>25457355>Eddard's forces mobilizing and arriving in the Trident itself would have taken 9 monthsIt absolutely should've, but they mobilize pretty quickly during AGOT as well.So during the Dance, the North was probably being extra slow on purpose.
>>25457206>Not how it works and it's not worth the legal ass kicking they'll receiveNo, it's extremely easy to disobey requests like that on a will and it's unlikely anybody will be legally punished for it.
So this "I'm old, lonely and sad and way too tired to even update my blog" post in response to the series turning 30 is basically him admiting he can't finish the books, right ?I feel like he's way too coward to come to his fans and say "Look I'm sorry to let you all down but I'm a human too and at this age I won't be able to finish it, move on from this series if you want" because he know people will start asking him to hire someone else to finish the books (like they will once he dies) and so "steal" his lifetime work
>>25457564>>25457668does it really?since westeros and uk have the same map, someone can pull one example for how long it takes to go from south to west-northishreminder that king's landing isn't in the extreme south of the map, that is dorne
>>25457687Personally, I don't think he's all that depressed and this "woe is me" routine is a cynical fishing for sympathy thing because public opinion has turned against him a lot recently. I've noticed the media and a lot of GRRM shills have been ordering the fans to "be kind" to the fat man and it feels like a planned, co-ordinated thing to me
>>25457689Anon, in every ASOIAF book blurp says the Wall is 300 miles (~480 km) in length. That's literally the distance from Hadrian's wall to London. So, using that alone, we know the distances of Westeros. And can calculate that distance from Winterfell to Ruby Ford is around 1,300 miles/2092 km.Avg medieval army could do 20 km, so maybe they could march there in 100 days, but that would presume mobilization in North was instantaneous.
I feel like it's on you guyses to come to peace with him not giving us anything. If you need him to come out and say it to get some kind of closure at this point there's clearly some part of you that still has hope that you need to kill.

Why and how does George even allow this shitIs it because he’s genuinely just a naive and sweet old man/boomer who can’t say no to anyone? Him dropping that bomb on Condal and HotD was out of character as is
>>25459409The color-blind excuse always makes me laugh because somehow they found four mulattos to all match each other when casting the Starks, so obviously at some point they said "no, we need to limit the casting to mystery meats now that we have Lyanna."
>>25459409>allowHe doesn't get any say in casting and even if he did, he wouldn't risk jeopardising his meal ticket>>25459439>obviously at some point they said "no, we need to limit the casting to mystery meatsThey're always at that point
>>25459409He is 100% a naive old boomer. His spite for Trump and his opinions on immigration are adorable. I love him much more for it, to the point where I get angrier the more I see producers like Condal take advantage of his good and innocent nature. George just wants people to enjoy his stories. But now he’s realizing in real time that production matters a whole lot. The interpretation of producers can ruin one’s artistic vision and license.

>>25459855It's a continent scale map. The Trident dwindles from a huge navigable river to much smaller forks as it spreads out into the neck. Your criticism is autistic and nonsensical. Do you take these maps 100% literally? They can't show literally 100% of the detail.
>>25449598i think it's shit
>>25459409George has been liberal/leftist for literally his entire life, black characters have been in the story since the very beginning. He just doesn't care that everyone isn't white or Iberian or whatever. To be clear I'm black myself and think the race swap shit is weird and I don't care to see it constantly, but it's clear that George just doesn't give a fuck, Targaryens (or the people of Westeros in general) aren't real people, it's all fantasy in his mind.
>>25449190>the biggest flaw in ASOIAF, in my opinion, is the dothrakiFor me its Essos in general.
>>25459966IDK, his actual commissioned stuff for the calendars and guidebooks have Westerosi and Valyrians as white, even the Dornish are always just vaguely Iberian/Middle Eastern. Even Jon is pale as shite despite people trying to force Northerners as somehow being Inuit in skintone for some reason. Westeros is definitely huwhite in his mind, even if Essos and the Summer Isles aren't. You are probably right that he's the type of person to see the race swap in HotD and be hippie enough to care about some other autism like the four legged dragons on the Targ flags.
>>25459999yeah I was specifically talking about in regards to the show, obviously he's not going to race swap his book characters.

>>25461402>And won't my bastard love that? Lady Walda is a Frey, and she has a fertile feel to her. I have become oddly fond of my fat little wife. If she pops out sons the way she pops in tarts, the Dreadfort will soon be overrun with Boltons. Ramsay will kill them all, of course. That's for the best.
