Everyone ITT But Me Is a Girl Edition

Previous >>25546496
>>
There's something funny about the fact in my entire large social circle of friends, family, and family friends, all of the people of my generation (the "kids" as we're called, because the friend group started with our parents) with parents that actually have money and assets got regular jobs and are self-sustaining, and it's only the one person with the poor parents who don't have any money and don't own anything that wants to be a writer and is willing to risk it all for it, and has to live with his parents until he makes it or kills himself.

It's me. I'm that one guy.
>>
>>25548862
Don’t waste your time on 4chan then, you only got two years to finish your book!
>>
Gooned with Raj and/or Ivan earlier on OF.
The model they were pretending to be was just so hot I couldn't help it.
At least the shit they sent was of her of course.
C'est la vie.
Almost done reading Childhood, Boyhood, Youth by Tolstoy
>>
>>25548862
Sorry but as per the thread header you're actually a girl; I'm the only XY here.

OP—you may make out the royalty checks to Anon A. Anonson, Esq.

Two years before AI makes literature obsolete? Two years before social media fries everyone's attention spans? Two years before my parents get sick of my shit and force me to work at the sweatshop? If it's two years until I kill myself, that plan isn't for another eight and a half years.
>>
>>25548905
I’m looking for something supportive to say, but I got nothing, sorry, Anon. People say that publishing already pays peanuts, and you’d probably be better off finding some basic job to sustain yourself first. Though to the first two points I always think how more people acknowledge that social media are really bad, and books provide a direct substitute for that. Maybe renaissance is ahead of us!

In a desert land, a society is made up of wandering nomad tribes with ancient roots and more urbanized tribes tied to city centers. The people all practice a complex and mystifying religion, trade in spices and hallucinogenic drugs refined from rare desert plants or insects, and practice chattel slavery. Constantly shifting tribal, religious, and political alliances and blocs drive an endless series of raids, feuds, assassinations, plots, and intrigues. Outsiders are shunned and seen as less than human due to their lack of knowledge of the local faith. A prophecy is whispered on the lips of many and recorded in a secret, banned coda to the works of scripture preached from in the public squares, speaking of a messianic figure to come, a liberator who will unite the tribes and deliver justice.
Unknown to outsiders, the faith practiced in the desert region is closer to Sabbatean Frankism than anything else. Practitioners consider themselves spiritually unclean until they reincarnate as the lowest caste of their society, slaves, and consider inflicting cruelty on said slaves to be a divine work of mercy, as the suffering inflicted damns only the perpetrator and spiritually purifies the sufferer. To deny cruelty or pain to a slave is to deny his passage into paradise upon his death, and the scriptures give strict rules for how much a slave must endure before his soul is purified enough to ascend to such a place. Furthermore, the slave one abuses may very well be the reincarnation of one's honored ancestor, beloved family member, or friend, and withholding punishment could mean barring them from salvation. Staining one's current life with sinful acts is seen as honorable in its way, as it increases the likelihood of reincarnation as a slave from which one may attain paradise, and this drives the endless violence and cruelty of the society at large.
The prophecy of the messianic figure is deliberately planted where it can be found with moderate effort by outsiders or the curious. The true, full prophecy is closely guarded and withheld only to the temple elders and heads of tribes: the hero to come is not a liberator, but a martial conqueror and outlander who will enslave the whole people, making them equals and abolishing their castes, and who will eventually exterminate them via genocide, which will deliver them all to paradise while locking profane outsiders out of it.
>>
>>25548923
Oh, I was just curious if there was a specific reason for saying two years. Nevermind. And I don't care much for financial success, I don't care if I end up living with my parents for the rest of my life (ie the day I kill myself). But I do care about literary success, to know what I wrote was worthwhile. So if I get shortlisted for some awards, have some articles written about me, published at a real publishing house, people talking about my books on the internet, I can die happy, even if it doesn't amount to more than 10K a year or whatever.

He extended his arm in a manner in a way that reminded him of N. Gin's bossfight from Crash Bandicoot 3 and watched as the water dribbled from his pinky. "Cowabunga!" the water seemed to be saying as it trickled down the sinkhole. Finally, and with the same sort of reluctant attitude as Ash's Pikachu refusing to enter his Pokeball, he climbed out of the shower.

Is there any interesting schools of thoughts out there?
I remember 10 years ago things felt fresh.
You had the MAGA movement, woke was nearing it's peak, you had the neo-reactionary movement doing it's thing.

What do we have now? Abundance movement is a joke, nothing will come of it. I guess the AI accelerationist people have something but it seems so pie in the sky for now.
>>
>>25548958
Would you settle for a slow-burn, intelligent spy novel?
>>
>>25548962
We live in the AI schizo era, aka "I chatted with an AI all night and worked out the answers to life, the universe, and everything"
>>
>>25548962
I was following some tech minimalism/ return to the 90s stuff that was kinda interesting but more self helpish. Honestly, I was asking myself the same question recently. I wonder if the intellectual energy of the early internet has exhausted itself.
>>
>>25548963
Hell yeah dude. I just want lit to be fun again. Tired of everything having to be serious and deep.
>>
>>25548965
Now that you mention schizophrenia you also have the conspiratards.
People like Candace Owens and such who poison any discourse with wild theories.
That's a faction I forgot.
But it's not so much interesting as it is tiring to have to hear how Israel did such and such as a reflex. Not a thought out position just a reflex to anything happening.

>wants to be a writer and is willing to risk it all for it, and has to live with his parents until he makes it or kills himself.

Writing isn’t a real career anon. It’s nearly impossible to make a living writing. You really shouldn’t expect anything more out of it than a hobby or a “side hustle” or else you’re just setting yourself up to fail
>>
>>25548975
Hey, I made a living as a professional gamer for three-to-four years, which is another rarified chance of success. I'm ready to reach the top of my other passion. like I said in the other post >>25548928

I refuse to make YouTube videos or podcast or such which is sort of our modern equivalent of the everyday writer.
>>
>>25548986
Incorrect use of rarefied. You meant rare and in this context saying rarefied is the opposite of what you mean.

Not pointing out to be pedantic, I’m just acquainted with that particular word.
>>
>>25549038
No, you're right. I had, rare, then I was gonna change the sentence where rarified worked ("another field where success is a rarified space") but then I got lazy and left it.
>>
>>25549047
That’s okay friend. I only pointed it out because I like when mistakes like that happen because it goes to show that it doesn’t matter too much if a word is misused when the meaning still remains.
>>
>>25549055
I like those rarefied situations too.

My niece went to the Homecoming dance and I saw the pictures and asked why the guy was so hands-off standing next to her smiling dumb and my mom said that he's one of her best friends and that he's gay. My niece went to Homecoming with a gay dude and has many gay friends both male and female. It's beyond fucking over, I thought I was a loser because I didn't bother going to my Homecoming dance but this is a new fucking low.
>>
>>25549072
Personally I hate seeing girls related to me with other men. Probably doesn't say good things about me.
>>
The other day, I had to visit the doctor. I informed the guy at the front desk and then sat in the waiting room. After a few minutes, he informed me she let him know I was good to head back, so I walked around the corner into her office, closed the door, noticed her eyes get a little wide and surprised but brushed it off because I thought it was attraction, and sat down. She said, "Uh, did you talk to the front desk guy?" I said, "What? He's the one who said to see the doctor." "Yes but you're supposed to wait until he says to come back." "Oh, he did, he said you said you were ready for me." "Oh, no, I only sent him a thumbs-up to acknowledge his message you were waiting." "Shoot, sorry, I can head back out if you want..." "No, you're here already, it's fine."

In any case, I still feel bad about it. You all are probably thinking, "uh, sounds like the most insignificant, minor thing I've ever read" but I just don't want to be one of those guys who barges into offices, closes the door, and forces people to my whim on my time lol, even though it wasn't my fault because the front desk guy misunderstood and told me. But still, I should have insisted I go back into the lobby and wait, I don't know.

You always hear about Pete Best but nobody ever talks about Stu Sutcliff even though they were both former Beatles that got kicked out of the band. I suppose it’s because Sutcliff died so very young whereas Pete Best hung around and put out one album and did the occasional interview with a newspaper or whatever. I remember reading in a book about the Fab Four that Paul and Stu didn’t get along because Stu couldn’t play bass guitar. Supposedly they’d quarrel over it often and Paul would make Stu play with his back to the audience so they wouldn’t be able to notice that his fingers were in the wrong key and such. They even had a fist fight on stage at one point, although that’s not that shocking since the Beatles were like a punk rock group in Hamburg and would drink, smoke, swear, light shit on fire and spit on the audience and stuff like that while wearing leather jackets and greasy Elvis hair.

But what are you thinking. I forget what I was thinking. Pretty sure now I didn't even have thoughts, just tried to avoid it. Had a gf at the time so it made things less lonely. I don't think I had a thought about it until years later. I was quite young, probably should be in a record book or something. Didn't even have a driver's license yet. This is why I prefer to stick to books written in English by English speaking people, but then the problem with that is that there’s only so much great work that English speaking people have produced and it hardly constitutes a majority of it. There’s a reason you used to have to know Latin and Greek just to get an education after all. I don’t usually like to post about how much I loathe myself like other anons often do, but I do kind of hate myself for not knowing five or more different languages

I seem to have some inexplicable connection to Australia, largely due to the fact that my first line was Australian, and so was someone that I honestly considered to be soulmate, who both entered my life under admittedly statistically improbable circumstances. I know that my general impression of Australians as strangely cool is just naive and kind of fucking stupid, and I don't pretend to have any real understanding of their culture, which is probably one the main reasons that I like it so much, but I can sterilize that affinty with limitless, inhuman precision, but it will never actually subdue the feeling itself.

Aus and NZ are the better Anglosphere countries. America's the most free and prosperous but the culture's too black, it looks like Canada's becoming an expensive chinese-indian shit hole, and the only people left in the UK are the most useless, subservient, or hopelessly patriotic and they're all being replaced by darks. Aussies/new Zealanders still have an authoritarian streak (dig IDs, COVID shit) but its culture's still there. It's like America if it wasn't africanized but slightly more authoritarian. The middle ground. People seem to be less serious, it's more out of the way.

Yeah, I honestly like that American culture is inextricably linked to its black population, without becoming entirely dependent on or overwhelmed by it, and I don't necessarily see my appreciation for Australia to be related to its intrinsic whiteness, because that tends to produce some genuinely shitty Australians.
And I'm not trying to elevate it as being superior to any other culture, despite my schizophrenic, symbolic idealization of it, which is why I don't try to act like an Australian, it's a personal affinity that I can't clearly explain.

The apparent “half of Americans” vs. “27% of Europeans” comparison is misleading if interpreted as Americans being nearly twice as mentally ill.
Those numbers measure different things:

U.S.
Europe
Lifetime
~46.4% observed; ~50.8% modeled to age 75
No single comparable EU figure
12-month
~26% for the disorders assessed in NCS-R
~27% in an older EU estimate
Diagnostic framework
DSM-IV
Varied
Survey period
2001–03
Mostly studies from earlier/later periods
Disorders included
Broad but defined set
Varies considerably
And there's a particularly interesting point: the 50% lifetime number isn't uniquely American. The newer cross-national research actually suggests that, when you follow people long enough and look across a reasonably broad set of common disorders, roughly half of a population may eventually meet criteria for at least one disorder.
PubMed
So if what you're really asking is “Is mental illness unusually common in America compared with Europe?”, the answer is you can't infer that from the famous 50% statistic. The measurement and diagnostic differences are too substantial.
>>
>>25550146
If you’re replying to me I wasn’t comparing the US to anybody else, I just saw that 50% of people are crazy stat on its own and thought how fucked up it is. You really shouldn’t be so reflexively defensive, I’m an American too.

It's usually the insecure who wants to make themselves appear smarter than they are. They try to make themselves look like they know about every aspect of life and or have infinitely refined taste than everyone in the room. The real smart people, especially the savant types, tend to have quirks in their personality that they're unapologetic about.

I probably had some kind of innate ability to spot extraterrestrials at that age that I lost soon afterwards.

This is a categorically different issue, because a pro-lifer would have to agree that terminating the process of conception a microsecond before it finalizes is, technically, morally permissible.

Look, do pretenders and pretentious charlatans exist? Absolutely. But anon's original post reads like him trying to justify the fact they like low brow stuff and don't like high brow stuff without it impugning on their intelligence, when the fact of the matter is, this stuff does tend to correlate. Again, like what you want, but there's a reason we call it a guilty pleasure, and yeah, if you don't like classical music or serious literature, it's not a great sign.

Ghosts are obviously real.

Bigfoot is real, too. Duh, there's too much evidence at this point.

The Fair Folk are clearly real, their long presence in the historical record attests to that.

Dragons may have been real at some point, I'm iffy on this.

Giants obviously are/were real. Too many skeletons, too many recorded encounters treated as factual by ancient and early modern historians.

Obviously the various supernatural elements of many religions are also real. Christianity is certainly true in its supernatural senses: the miracles, healings, and apparitions are all true. The various wonderworkers of Hinduism in India seem to be largely real as well. The strange abilities of Buddhist monks seem to be sometimes true.

This is all just blatantly obvious to me. Pure analysis of data, historical records, observable phenomena, physical evidence, and other things make these conclusions inescapable to me. I think to deny them means you're either not seeking out the right data, or you're wilfully ignorant. Materialists and people who deny the supernatural seem to me to be the ones who have their heads in the sand.

Just come off as fully meaningless. If we lived in a world where that sort of thread was the low bar for cultural discussion, then I'd be completely fine, but those threads are actually the high bar for discussion and everything else is worse.
It seems like before I turn 30, I'll have fully converted to being a modern "hermit" in the midst of society, totally disconnected from what everyone else is doing or looking at.

I'm not going to forget about all those kids who got raped on Epstein island. If you live a placid and calm life, you're only taking advantage of the luck you had being born into a comfortable station in life. Almost every major problem in the world has its roots in our insane relationships with the natural world. Human supremacism is so ingrained in our thinking that it doesn't need to be codified or argued - it is just taken for granted as it is built into everything.

This includes our insane relationships with each other. For example racism cannot stand without a foundation of human supremacism.

Postmodern nihilism, the feeling that the world is meaningless and antagonistic? it has everything to do with us being cut off from the natural world. More generally the state of the world disincentivizes caring about anything beyond friends and family because everything is being systematically polluted, destroyed, and enshittified.

I remember when I was psychotic, I had a hallucination of my dad repeating the words "Cuck and Fuck" in a grotesquely bullish, Southern tone with chewing tobacco carelessly leaking down his jaws. It also made me feel as if this were severing the connection between my brain and spinal cord, which is honestly kind of a fucked up feeling when you're driving on the highway.

I am in fact smarter than you. And what do you even think your business is, some form of right-wing archaeology?

The women huddled around the portals hemming and saying of 'Tissot.'

But all the while . . . in the upper places where our highest, loosest minds are upon with their good works' pedestals -- They, the girls see the Afrique-shapes, giant marbles, and granulated photographs of rockstars or Vancouver gas stations.

Then will we say of our marvels? Or retire with our coffee and iced gifts for employers and feminine shopkeepers . . . But we have marvels to share --

Modern babies' outings with the art that strikes fear. In the cities of Tokyo's frozen lead and incubation's-light -- Oh, but not the city of promontory and British right? And it's not neither -- nor neither weren't fair, O my city . . . But now you've a Lion's share and look feign like any. And your women, as was all ways said, 'are they not pretty?'

So you are no less a city? -- But you are for all the twiddling. But you are for the lack of nip in the cold, for the lack of strange tongues' seemin strange, and the coming of age not coming --

And Tissot is twiddling, and strange, and we talked of Monet again, the whispers-lo. They are all 'impressed' again, listen-lo! So Tissot is not Tissot.

Okay, here’s another end-of-the-thread story, get yourself comfy, kids. A while ago at some forum, not 4chan, I met this person who pretended to be Tegan from Tegan and Sara. They never called themselves that, they only kinda led me into believing that they were, and I was retarded enough to believe them. They liked to “fuck with people” as they called it by creating various online personas to troll people. I don’t remember if I shared my pictures with them, but I probably did, and they probably are still using them to catfish some other idiots like me. The whole thing was not good for my mental health, and I believe they gained an access to my computer at some point - otherwise how could they porn-shame me right on spot. I felt like being watched for a few years (yet I couldn’t be assed to re-install the system on my computer either). Fuck if I’m getting myself into shit like that again.

I know you're very proud and mysterious, and I find that very attractive, but still, it's a simple question, babe.

I would make a perfect muse. I have inspired songs, poems, etc. I just need a woman with the creative and emotional intensity to actually lay claim to me forever.

Fun fact: I’m not even into women, but they probably thought that if they harass me long enough I may give way. It was extremely creepy all the way around, although it was probably the last time I spoke to someone besides my family, coworkers and anon.

No actually I'm still proud. She sweet thing was bitching about her masc lesbian abuser gf being drunk and screaming at her to get more cigarettes at midnight. I asked her to dinner, she showed up in a cyan shortdress totally fucking charmed like ready to do the whole thing. It was a sweet time but I didn't find it to be a worthy lifelong project for myself.

the lesbian (bi?) girl at work i normally avoid (bc i can't talk to girls) ended up giving me a lift home today, and because it was so awkward we couldn’t help but talk we ended up having a conversations about random shit.

i said ‘oh yeah what are you on the teacups then?’
‘yeah haha that’s me.’
‘that’s where the real action is.’

All women are trash in bed. Making love is man’s work, like cleaning gutters or mowing the lawn. Women just lay there

"It was less an act of hubris
More a lonely hearts club at the helm of a magic bullet
Away on a relentless bid for rarefied inertia
Rattletrap forks married to the patchy terra firma
Ursa Minor getting warmer
I crowbar into the pecking order
The dreck between the whores and Betty Ford-ers
Hug a double yellow spine
Knobby rubber like a rat on a rope
Those little fuckers run on passion alone
This is the product of a DIY inadequate home
Grabbing a cabin in the-fuck-outta-dodge
Actin' a savage in the shadows of Rome
Traffic amassed against insufferable odds
Fashioning gallows out of plastic and bone
I got the motordrome walls of death splintering under me
All-city galvanized bikes white knuckling
Bright light, tunnel kings tuck in the devil
PS - I wrote this on a self-destructing memo"

"We are all wired into a survival trip now. No more of the speed that fueled that 60's. That was the fatal flaw in Tim Leary's trip. He crashed around America selling "consciousness expansion" without ever giving a thought to the grim meat-hook realities that were lying in wait for all the people who took him seriously... All those pathetically eager acid freaks who thought they could buy Peace and Understanding for three bucks a hit. But their loss and failure is ours too. What Leary took down with him was the central illusion of a whole life-style that he helped create... a generation of permanent cripples, failed seekers, who never understood the essential old-mystic fallacy of the Acid Culture: the desperate assumption that somebody... or at least some force - is tending the light at the end of the tunnel."

There’s something to be said for the health-conscious, spiritual, yoga-doing LA crowd. The people thinking they’re part of “the search”. This great search that is mainly being conducted on the West Coast. And it’s because people, pioneers, have been fighting their way to get there for one hundred and fifty years. Finally they’re there, and there’s nothing there.

Yeah, I lived in California for a year, in search of enlightenment at a donut shop in San Francisco, and despite living on the side of a mountain overlooking the Pacific, which is arguably the most beautiful environment I had seen, there was nothing that felt anything more spiritually pure about it than the corrosive fumes of the oil refinery in the town where I was born.

Facials are hot in porn and pictures, but they're immensely unsatisfying in real life. In my opinion, anyway.
>>
>>25551903
As in I initially saw it as some revolting, industrial monstrosity, I eventually learned to appreciate its humbling toxicity as one of the things that allowed me to sustain my grip on reality.

Interesting. I feel that. Unfortunately you cannot express such sentiments on your professional artistic work without getting denounced for ecological disaster apologia.

Documentary is fine; sympathy and expressing a spiritual kinship is problematic. Of course none of this matters to your internal feelings, only if you were write it and try to publish it somewhere. Imagine writing a novel about some guy who finds spiritual transcendence in dumping waste into rivers and cutting down trees, lol.

It's more a cynical dismissal of the possibility of spiritual transcendence at all, rooted in the belief that there's no perspective of reality that's more substantial than any other.

Anything outside of a creampie is unsatisfying, even if they may be aesthetically pleasing through porn. Mother Nature intended you to creampie and that's why it sucks when you do anything else.
