Are the Armored Core games good?
>>23406406Who's asking?
>>23406410I ain't saying nothing
>>23406406The PS1 games are pretty good, the best one is For Answer
>>23407100*Silent Line
>>23407100>>23407121Frame Gride*
>>23407100*Verdict Day
Yup playing ac6 was worth 20 bucks. Too bad trying to customize on the ps4 is a little daunting.
>>23408254Mind elaborating? I literally started 6 yesterday
>>23408356NTAhe probably means doing custom art on the PS4the actual customization of the mechs is maybe the simplest it has been
>>23408624You ever see the shit people cooked up for 5th gen?Once you know your way around the decal editors (which themselves have gotten better with each passing generation of AC), you can bullshit just about anything. Really the only drawback the 6th gen editor has is From still expects you to manually place everything and only offers coordinate/parameter displays as a reference aid rather than fields you can enter values into, and that's just dumb oversight born of years of just going "well we always did it this way and it wasn't a problem before, so it's fine right?"
>>23407100>do everything in For Answer>get tiny dingaling as reward
Can you guys share a code list for extra emblems?
Armored Core is like Ace Combat with worse storytelling and significantly worse music. Or basically its just Gran Turismo with legs.
YesAC6 is the true 2023 GOTY
>>23409520Ace Combat is Macross disguised as a flight simcade, bit different to what Armored Core is going for
>ace combat>sim
>>23410529Simcade =/= sim, it's completely different evenBlame whoever came up with the dumb name for this if you don't like it
>>23410528they've got an astonishingly similar mission-based structure but mostly trades the cinematic chops for Gran Turismo dryness and customization autism
>armored core>not cinematic
correct
>>23406406depends. If you ask ac fans what games are good then you'll get wildly different opinions so just try whatever game or generation of AC games that you think looks most interesting and has best music xD. Though if we're talking pure accessibility then I might recommend Nexus/Last raven, 4/for Answer, and Verdict day if you have a ps3 or a good enough cpu that can handle emulating it.
I'm getting filtered by the controls of the first game. How do I git gud?
>>23417466Honestly just get used to it. shit adviced but there's not much you can do other than remapping the controls like picrel but that also kinda sucks but might be more intuitive since the face buttons emulate the analog sticks.
>>23417466get used to itthe control scheme is a part of the difficulty and it's not that bad if you remove your preconceptions
>>23417466Get used to it, or look up how to sorta emulate modern stick controls onto the old gen games like I did. It kinda makes them easy, but that's debatable
>>23417466dude mouse injector lmaooo
>>23417466The default controls are trash useful only for niche show off moments of dodging singular missiles coming from just a single enemy. Just remap them.
>>23421219Actually I shall correct myself - it's also good when literally facing a tight group of missile launchers firing off at best 2 poor tracking missiles at a time as long as the enemies aren't moving closer or try to encircle you (AC3 missile dodge mission)
>>23417466Some dude made a hack to use the analogjust search VanLaser's ac analog controls
>>23406406They're very good.
>>23423035I don't get why people clamour so much to have analog in Armored Core, and can only assume they're just that accustomed (stunted) to 7th gen and later.
>>23423035Thank you very much.
Armored core are one of those games where if your save file got erased, replaying wouldn't even be an issue. It's just that good.
>>23426888i found mapping the face buttons to the camera way easier to use since it makes doing minute adjustments while in combat not as difficult
>>23406406Yes
>>23409829Agreed
>>23430479yup. even getting the secret stuffs all over again isn't much annoying
the ps2 ones
am i coping thinking something big will be announced aug 24?
>>23406406Not really, I rented one or two of these and they just felt like a worse Mechwarrior.
>>23406406It's weird you have to ask this on /m/ of all places.I miss old 4chan so much.
>>23417466you have to understand the controls seem to have that layout as a way for the game designers to communicate a fundamental part of the game's designmoving the FCS up and down is in such an awkward position because you shouldn't use it that often, at least when starting out; you should only need to make small vertical adjustments to the camera most of the times, unless your trying more advanced playstyles but by that time you should already be comfortable with the controls at the beginning just learn to move your camera slightly up so your FCS is not pointing mostly at the floor and go from there, of course for turrets and flying MTs you can stay stationary and move your camera since those do shit for damage, but for AC battles you should worry more about your positioning and horizontal camera work, so the enemy is always on your sightsas an extra tip for once you start with the arena in Phantasma remember if an enemy is behind you, the fastest way to get them on your sights again is to jump backwards
>>23408254 >trying to customize on the ps4 is a little dauntingit definitely is, but it gets easier with time. especially after making some basic marking decals, you can reuse them on multiple ACs if you want a very quick and easy spruce-up
>>23439183it's been 2 years, i think they straight-up forgot about the game already. unless they spent too much time trying to animate ugly shit like the FIRMEZA's leg piston fuckery again
Mecha Break
>>23451618Never seen a cool character like this get bodied by the story this hard.
>>23406406I like Armored Core :)My favorites are 1st Gen, 5th Gen, and 6.4th Gen is probably the most popular.I'm also the only Formula Front fan in existence but it's not really an AC game so I can't really recommend that.
What are the basics, what are the games about/like? What is armored core in general?I've only heard bits and pieces of what it is, but from what I have heard it seems interesting I just don't know where abouts to begin
>>23451968his build is kinda terrible. probably a good move since they probably don't want people getting roadblocked in a part of the story that's supposed to be moving but still >>23452643it is a piloting/customization game with a mission-based structure
>>23439183Might be another few years but I would expect 6.5 to be in the works.
>>23406406Nom.
>>23452665>his build is terribleWhich one? Steel Haze is probably the best build for the campaign. But Ortus is a whole different story.
>>23464623 ortus, ye i think it's mainly the p04 completely sandbagging it
>>23464696I don't like the weapons on it either. There's not enough ammo for dealing with fodder. The Huxleys take too long the reload. Finally the Treuno forces you to stop to shoot which is a death sentence in a lightweight AC.
>>23464805 >There's not enough ammo for dealing with fodder it's a 1v1 machine for sure. though NPCs also ignore ammo limitations so that part doesn't really matter too much level design-wise >the Treuno forces you to stop to shoot which is a death sentence in a lightweight AC there's also that long-ass lockon speed... that being said, i've had a lot of fun playing lightweights with an offhand bazooka so i don't wanna say that it's necessarily a death sentence. the usecases for TRUENO are: 1. harassment from long range with missile lock (since you have space to run away) 2. stun punish from any range. firing it unlocked actually makes it hit dead-on if you're firing at a stunned AC, so you can skip getting missile lock. and of course there's always the option of pairing it with FORTALEZA legs so you don't have to stop to shoot at all
>>23407173That game is so ass
>>23409520They really aren't that similar and Armored Core has better music.
>>23407100*Nexus
>>23469056ps1 and ps2 armored cores just have electronic dance music that could have come from literally any game. ps3 games have unfitting dad rock of all things. And anyone that says they noticed Armored Core 6 even has music is lying.
>>23469386nah, but that just reinforced that you don't actually play ac6
>>23469257 nexus is a meme
>>23471163armored core 6 will never recover from having its soundtrack panned by MarcoMeatball And personally 3 full playthroughs, almost all the S ranks later and not once have i ever gotten the urge to listen to any of the music outside the game.
>>23472371>MarcoMeatballliterally who?
>>23469386>dad rockt. Musically illiterate
>>23475666accept that you are old and that nonsensical lyrics works for metal wolf chaos but is out of place in armored core
Bump
>>23406406Just play them retard.
>>23497248This.
>>23469056nah, ace combat has better music
>>23451618I still think this dude is a massive overrated jobber and I just don't understand why people fellate him so much.
>>23519888Probably the first impression if yu did the route where you kill ayre. He left an awesome impression in the story. Sadly his character gets tossed aside fast in other routes.
>>23520320Could be because of routes, but in general he feels completely irrelevant to the story. So I just don't understand why its him specifically that gets so much attention. I found other "less important" characters more memorable.
>>23521034I mean at least he wasnt white glint in ac4a. Had a opening for himself, iconic theme, literally a legacy character and was hyped up in the story. Onky gets one mission and is never seen again.
>>23519888He has a sexy voice and is nice to you.
>>23521189whoa there pal. he had 2(TWO) variations of that one mission. absolute legend
>>23440452>>23417466Moving the cam vertically has always been a huge problem for me. Especially once you get to arena rank 30 and later and every motherfucker is jumping around like Quake.
>>23452643Meme answer is that the game is about going super fast in mechs. But really the game is about heavy customization, where you can ideally beat the game with a bunch of different weapon and part combinations. The general combat speed is higher than say Mechwarrior but only AC4/4A is actually that fast.
>>23521201Enough for me.
>>23452643>>23521444AC 2-3 gens do get fast in short overboost bursts in-between bunnyhops, but yeah, nowhere the 4 gen level
>>23519888He's Joshua with more dynamics to the player, and makes the game feel like Ace Combat In the route where you BTFO Walter, Rusty took out the fleet you take out in the route where you BTFO him & Ayre, but he did it without infinite coral supplyFans really latch onto any friendly pilot characters. See: GreenfieldThe writers really did him dirty in the coral release route though. Unknown death off screen after his first NG+ fight gets improved and hyped up with new dialogue. But I guess then his momentary sudden "appearance" hits better this way, since you forget about him by then with how much stuff was going on
>>23519888he's the only cordial person in a game where everyone is an asshole
>>23519888He's a cool guy. I think you're just jealous of him.
>>23469386No they couldn't come from literally any game, what the fuck kind of description even is that. And what matters is that the music is great and fits just fine. Well aside from LR, that one's questionable.4A's music I do agree is ass, 4 had a few nice tracks, but then 5th gen OST was completely different (ranging from bland as fuck to really good).6 is just dogshit so it doesn't matter.
>>23409520You can't ragebait me, anon.
Hell yeah! I played Armored Core Nexus when I was younger, and I quite enjoyed it. at the time, my only experience with the mecha genre was with Front Mission 3, so a non-turn-based game was mind-breaking to me at the time.More recently, I did play Armored Core 6; I had initially pirated the game, but I enjoyed it so much that I actually bought i full price. Fully recommend it.
>>23535327Good man.
>>23535327Oh yeah, I recommend for you to try every AC series from 1 to Verdict day so you can see how the game evolved to 6. Every games holds up by their own, you should try that when you got time.
>>23406406no
>>23542424Wrong.
>>23536520I tried playing the PS2 ones and got bored.
>>23409202>You ever see the shit people cooked up for 5th gen?I'm amazed at what some randos online can do with pre-made symbols
>>23551057lmao, skill issue me too lmao, just take your time and continue when you're in mood. Because 3, silent line, and last raven are worth it. fuck nexus.
>try the first armored core for the first time ever>holy fuck the controls are so shit>manage to get to the final mission>its suddenly a shitty copy of the clock level of mario 64 as if the devs forgot the game they were making>9 ball rapes you instantlywtf is this dogshit? you literally can't even keep track of this fucker with the aim
>>23553492I beat that level with tank legs as a kid. The trick is to ignore the balls
>>23553492It's rape because you get up and down the shaft while balls are danglingOn a combat note, melee tracking is crazy good in first gen so much you can kill even airborne standard 9ball with it quickly. Dogfighting vertically ranged is still viable with practice tho. Simpletons just hide in the covers at the bottom of the shaft
>>23519888His theme https://youtu.be/FkGcXc4XeIA?si=8IG33Hdsv15qwlyC
Huh, this thread is still up? Things must be going quite slow. Anyway. Armored Core is pretty cool.until its not
>>23410543During the PS1 era you're absolutely spot on. They diverge a lot more once they hit the PS2 and Ace Combat trades in the branching player choice mission layouts in favour of very cinematic linear narratives. While Armored Core doubles down and gets less linear.
>>23554098I really like this song because so much of the music in 6 is that industrial groaning, then this song kicks in with elements of the older AC scores asserting themselves through AC6's soundscape. The engrish lyrics, the more traditional techno notes that creep in at like 1:06 and other parts, the more traditional AC bass line that emerges at 2:00. I also swear there's elements of AC4's piano skittering mixed in there as well during the last half. It's like at in that moment the game is letting the mask slip on AC6's identity as "we're still in here despite this being yet another new setting". Which is always a cool aspect of the AC series and it's multiple narrative eras.
>>23554053Circle 9 will also just chase you into the holes where you can blast him easily. Really the developers knew you could out gun him so they made the stage as awkward as possible. Every time you fight him in Master of Arena he’s a pushover.
>>23559121>until its notYeah right at the ps2 era.
I've recently played AC1, PP, MoA, still playing through 2, and just finished 6.I really liked the PS1 games but 2's been kinda boring even tho I'm pretty close to finishing it.Also really liked 6 but I have some nitpicks about it, mainly the story not really feeling like the ACs I played so far.Any tips that'd help me mop 2 up would be appreciated!
>>23563759>Drop that bitchmade laser and start using some grenade launchers and other shell weapons. >>23469257The only good things about this game were the opening cinematic and the ending.
>>23563759>mainly the story not really feeling like the ACs I played so fartbf old ac story was just a shitillion emails telling you "the dogfart corporation has coopted the efukt commitee and then they both died" and then at the end a robot appears and you blow them up.
>>23566490Never used the Karasawa in 2 lolI mainly us the 1000 round MG and shoulder rockets.>>23566641You forgot about the missions where they try to take you out behind the shed, the emails from the Nest that pretend that that mission where you were tricked into going into a deathtrap was very "surprising", and the Human+ escapee mission.I agree they were very minimal and 6 objectively has a denser story where most questions are answered, but I liked the vibes of AC1 and 2's stories where you're just a guy fighting other guys. Not ghosts that are energy sources but are super volatile and also allow all sorts of fantastical technological advances and also know everything and can hack into stuff and pilot mechs.
>>23567021I like old AC a lot, it's just very classic fromsoft-ish to have you regularly play as a nobody who beats every single ranker, outlive all the companies trying to assassinate you, and then seemingly incidentally wind up fighting the evil AI and kill it as well, the whole time having no stated reason for doing any of this. Not against it, I just understand why they'd tinker more often with giving you an explicit purpose and surrounding you with characters who want to achieve things.
>>23567114Based.And yeah same I understand, too. I'd even say I liked 6's story.I just wish it was like the older games
>>23409202>>23552317Lack huge ass shield parts that are purpose build to flex your decal autism is really disappointing. You're pretty much stuck with BASHO core and TIAN-LAO arms.
>>23406410I'm asking.
>>23406406AC1 and 2 were good for their time. Very clunky but innovative. AC3 refined that and one of it's spin-offs finally fixed the weird "Shoulder buttons to pan up and down" issue. They also toyed with a lot of mechanics that ended up not going anywhere.AC4 was Fantastic but also WAY TOO FAST.AC5 tried to correct this but overshot and ended up a little too grunge. AC6 brought in Sekiro's director and scaled back AC4's combat to something reasonable. Personally, I think it's the best.
>>23439183right is literally white glint
>>23567996>AC4 was Fantastic but also WAY TOO FAST.skill issue
>>23438262project phantasma cover looks so cool, imagine being a kid and coming across it at a store.
