Basically I got the idea because the Gundam Local Type is an amphibious MS and I have a kit I snapped together years ago that looks like shit, so I thought making a diorama out of it fighting the Zaku I Sniper I have. But I think it'd also be a good excuse to have Aqua GMs and GM Sloeps show up as well. Then you could have more standard GMs that just have their joins water sealed like pic related to operate in the shallower water in deltas and bayous. So it'd be a mix of purpose made amphibious MS with field modified GMs.

No characters sadly, right now it's more of a concept than anything. I do want your usual rival pilot thing between the Gundam's pilot and a Zeon ace, but I can't decide what a good suit for him would be. Maybe a Gelgoog Ground Type or something. I did however have another idea: the Gundam pilot is a redd herring MC who dies in a mutual kill with the Zaku Sniper during a battle on the Mississippi River. Either way it'd be just as much about the commanders of the respective units fighting each other, I like that idea. This would be set in period between Zeon being driven off Earth and their official surrender, the Zeeks are stragglers and the Feddies are a thrown together Autonomous Corps to try and drive the remnants to surrender.
>>
>>23434784
I remember wanting some kind of cross between G-Saviour and Space Mutiny. Just a deep space colonial expedition with o'neill colonies and low budget cgi mobile suits.
>>
>>23434784
I've still got a Gundam AU I've had kicking around in my head for years and I develop a little bit internally every once in a while. The basic premise was an Earth-obsessed cult called Gaiabound attaining control of the Earth-based government and through false-flag operations sparked a rebellion in the space colonies, all to eradicate them and force all human life to return to and permanently stay on Earth in their belief that human souls are born from and must remain tied to the planet.

One of the survivors of this war, Kuzey Ferris, accidentally discovered the truth at the time as just a young boy, and along with the few friends on his colony that survived swore they'd get vengeance. He grew up into a lone assassin trying to eradicate the cult's leadership while his friends went their separate ways - one become a billionaire Zaibatsu head secretly funding a new rebellion among former Spacenoids with the aid of a mysterious masked pilot, one joined the crew of the ship who saved their lives, and whose captain is trying to expose the cult's corruption, and another became an ace pilot in the Earth forces' ranks to try and spark change from within.

Kuzey gets recruited by a woman named Melissa, running a terrorist cell called Newtype, with the goal of destroying Gaiabound, and helps him steal one of 13 experimental new Mobile Suits called Gundams - a skirmisher type dubbed the Yeoman suited to his style. But things change when Kuzey finds a young girl living alone out in a ruined colony with strange telepathic abilities, and he's forced to care for her as the war ramps up. He soon begins to suspect Melissa is like him, consumed by revenge and is after the destruction of the Earth itself.

I could easily write thirty more posts outlining all the characters, MS, and subplots, but the basic gist from there is Kuzey weighing his own hatred and need for closure versus the well-being of this child, and what she represents.

Short series, gundam but it's Zulu. Feddy base gets cut off and encircled by zeon who wants to capture it. Supplies are limited and suits have to be field repaired with what they can. Titular gundam gets taken out in a surprise twist early on and spends most of the show as a wreck in no mans land, feddies have to push out to salvage it and other downed MS when spare parts run critically low, gets rebuilt as a frankenstein with GM and zaku components for the final fight.
>>
Been tossing around an idea in my head of a post oyw story focused around a federation coast guard unit off in the gulf of mexico using a mix of feddie stuff and captured zeon aquatic suits. With the main threat being some zeon remnants rolling around in some subs with both old aquatic suits and hasty conversions of normally ground use units into underwater mobile units. Like using a zaku 1 as a worker grunt to tap into resources or pop up to the surface and threaten locals to give up their food.

Got an idea for an IBO-verse fic. The MC is Theo Manus, formerly a Gjallerhorn member who was discharged after a mission into a cryovault on Mars went horribly. Think "Experimental unit stolen, two other pilots in the team dead" horrible. Probably set it in the timeskip for IBO, so Io frames can show up, among others.

A lot of it will be trying to track down the missing experimental unit, giving the MC a Gerail or Graze based frame from some spacer contacts to start. Maybe eventually get him into a custom unit so finicky it gets a nickname about needing the pilot to fit the machine, like a glass slipper.

>It's UC 108
>20 years after the Pezun rebellion, many of the technical files (save for stuff like ALICE's AI systems) and MS designs used during the event were declassified, with various independant groups and frontier Sides adopting those designs and used suits for their defense.
Our main cast are a mercenary outfit, Reticule Precision Services, who's recently made it big with the fallout of the Mafty incident as security specialists and counter-terrorism operatives for hire.
The plot would be something like a police procedural, with the cast tracking down the current episode's terrorist cell and taking them down, with an overarching plot showing that a Zanscare (or Jovian, considering Crossbone) underground group is agitating all these extremist groups (which go from crackpot apocalypse cults to extreme Spacenoid supremacists that make even Gihren sound reasonable and sane by comparison) into action, with the final episode hinting very strongly at F91.
>Our main characters would be a brother-sister duo, piloting the MSA-0011X Sub-S Gundam, a "declassified" model of the original S, with most of the AI technology omitted and its functions replaced with a Weapons Systems Officer who runs the more exquisite gear, like the INCOMs. Also, this results in it having weaker performance, since there is now super advanced combat AI wouldn't be regulating the suit's various systems, and for ease of production, the Core Block system was omitted.
>Highlights would include an infiltration of Frontier IV, where they'd face off against a group who'd act as the Crossbone Vanguard's Brownshirts, a very tense standoff against a Federation patrol over a reported sighting of one of the missing Unicorns, and a far-flung deployment in Jupiter where they're hired by a then-young Crux Dogatie to uncover rumours of Jupiter Fleet ships going missing after leaving for the Earth Sphere

Still working on my endless fanfic multiverse, the inimitable Doing-Things. Here's some DT series teaser content for shits and giggles. For example, each individual Doing-Things series has a fun synopsis:

>DTH

>Tom Clancy's Allison & Lillia Flashback 2012: Lelouch Of The Galactic Heroes New Testament

>DTHNG
>Tom Clancy's Warhammer 40,000 Only: 4chan /tg/ Edition

>Tom Clancy's Sliders SG-1 GTS: Mezzo Overfiend of All Fears Edition

>DTHW (Movie The 1st and onwards)

I'd like to make a comic about sentient mechs, but I haven't come up with a solid idea yet. I'm considering just making it an episodic thing about a mechanic who repairs various mechs, but I don't know enough about (real) machines to come up with scenarios that make sense.
Other ideas I've considered:
>The same mechanic from the previous idea is conscripted to fight aliens or space ghosts or some shit, and he ends up piloting a repair-mech (a mobile repair shop or a field medic for other mechs, depending on how you look at it).
>A prodigy pilot dies in her mech. Afterwards, the mech doesn't function for any other pilot (because her spirit is possessing it) except her civilian acquaintance, who is pressured into becoming the mech's new pilot because replacing the mech isn't an option (too expensive, one of a kind materials, or something). The dead girl (hopeless autist) is obsessed with the acquaintance (who was the only one patient enough to tolerate her) despite having barely known her. Her transformation into a machine is a metaphor for her disconnection from humanity.
>Two robot soldiers who were created together, and were once best friends, end up on opposite sides of a war, one leading a robot army that seeks to cleanse the Earth of humanity, and the other trying to protect the remnants of humanity. The former thinks the latter is brainwashed by humans and is determined to "save" her.
>An unwilling mech pilot is allowed to choose his own mech and, out of spite, chooses one that's old, obsolete, and needs extensive repairs before it'll be able to function. Once it's repaired, he finds out the mech has developed a consciousness over its long existence. It deactivated itself on purpose so it wouldn't be used as a weapon anymore, because the war it was created to fight, which has gone on for over 100 years now, is pointless from its perspective. The mech and the pilot share this view, so they try to end the war (somehow).

I've had several ideas I've never fully fleshed out.
A couple UC ideas like a Ball ace's record of the OYW, late 0083/early 0084 Titans chasing zeek mercenaries.
And a couple of my own settings, one with small mechs and a constantly changing protagonist. Originally it was a mech warrior in a penal legion but as of now it's an experimental test pilot in the backdrop of the space wars of the diodachi. And I've actually thought a few times about how things would be if this setting were actually a gundam AU. The other one is much less high concept, cyberpunk power armor police.

>worrying about real machines
that stuff is for the animators to worry about. What does matter is how it pushes a story forward.
For example, for your episodic idea, the Mechs come in with damage that reflects the battlefield. Minor chips and damage to limbs in regular battlefields, coming back in pieces after being hit by the Protagonist BEAM©, adding jet packs and scuba gear when the real extraterrestrials reveal themselves.
I do like the Two Robot soldiers on opposite sides is cool

Fuck it.
I have writer's block. Still want to be vague, but I need to grease the brain wheels.

Writing a story, which will be mostly SoL style for the first half
Will be SoL so I can take time to explore and describe real logistics of space travel.
Story will also have an ecological sci-fi angle so I can get into ecology/environmentalist topics I care about.
Second half of the story, everything gets turned on its head.
Ayys attack.
Three of the main characters turn out to have alternate identities - not who or what they say they are.
Gets into some grotesque sci-fi horror, and ends with that style of half-luck optimism where you're not sure if the good guys really won or if the bad guys did

Sorry to be so goddamn light on the details. There's basically nothing I can say that doesn't feel like I'm tipping my hand.
Have a 9000 word outline of the full plot. All that's left is to write the thing.
Sat down the last two days trying to write the prologue sequence and could barely get anything on the page

>talk about your gundam au
OYW without Newtypes and MC's, who would really win and what would GM's look like without the Gundam's influence, surely the Federation defeated a few Zaku's with tanks and air strikes, then reverse engineered the Zaku to make their own version and fight back against Zeon
How would it turn out, would the Federation be too late in engineering their own MS?
>>
>>23457691
Part of that already exists in bits and pieces all over the UC

>what would GM's look like without the Gundam's influence
GM is just whatever the Federation ends up developing as their best option for a budget MS. If there isn't a Gundam to base it on, then it'll be a Guncannon. If there's no Project V then it sort of defeats the purpose, they wouldn't have any mobile suits if they weren't going to try to develop mobile suits.

>surely the Federation defeated a few Zaku's with tanks and air strikes, then reverse engineered the Zaku to make their own version and fight back against Zeon
Yeah, that's the Zanny. And the Dahle comes from similar situation, a mishmash of salvaged MS parts and put into service against their former owners.

>How would it turn out, would the Federation be too late in engineering their own MS?
Depending on the UC lore you subscribe to, the development timeline is already really compressed. The GM itself is probably mostly developed during the OYW, since the Gundam itself was still undergoing testing in September. If there was no Gundam, then they base it off the Guncannon or another available MS.

IIRC Zeon develops the Dom in maybe 3 to 4 months after landing on Earth, and Zeon originally intended on winning the war entirely in space without needing to invade and probably didn't prepare many land (or marine) based MS in advance. So the Dom seems to represent how long it took for new development that was optimized for Earth combat.

I'm assuming the GM started development partway through the Gundam's own development, so while they don't need to finish the Gundam to start work on the GM, there's going to be some rough overlap. And because Zeon has a head start on MS development over the Feds who are still learning, maybe the GM had 6 months of development?

it's livable space that you don't have to build or terraform, there's also still plenty of resources to mine, farmland for crops, air to breathe. it's also the simplest option since it's right next to us. the only way for earth to be worthless from a monetary point of view is if FTL becomes a thing, but even then you would have to spend untold amounts of money to fund expeditions to other planets, survey them to figure out if it's habitable, if the local flora and fauna are usable\edible\tolerable\manageable\etc, if the weather is survivable, where all the mineral deposits are, it could take years or decades

even then earth still has the advantage of being largely mapped and explored to a degree that it's possible to live there comfortable and easily
>>

Seconding don't worry about the technology too much. That being said I am a robotics tech and will sperg about them for you.
Some analogies:
Oil is akin to blood. Actuators are muscles. Frame is bone. Fuses....uhh, well the wiring is the nervous system, but all electronics are going to have circuit protection either as breakers or fuses. Machines overheat just like people. Coolant is sweat. You know how a battery works, but considered that a damaged battery cell could mean running at reduced power and/or having a much lower capacity, basically how long the unit can run.

You could add dramatic tension by having a hydraulic leak, basically adding a time limit to the fight as the protagonist's machine gets weaker and weaker before becoming immobile entirely, either on just one section or the whole thing.

Bypassing damaged circuit protection can be done with scrap metal or scrap wire, but it's a gamble. The circuit will still work, but should you short or overdraw current, that piece is lighting on fire or melting or both.

Coolant loss/pump failure can be similar to hydraulic loss. This can be mitigated if the environment is frigid enough to provide air cooling, or if you can transfer heat through something else like a liquid being sprayed onto the machine.

There are rotational position sensors called encoders that could be used in joints. Have one of those go on the fritz and you won't be able to trust what position a joint is in. This would be akin to having a limb fall very asleep/go totally numb but still be usable. A consequence of this could be over travelling the joint, such as winning a grapple at the cost of an elbow snapping off or bending the arm frame and getting stuck.

Also consider pilot accommodations like insulation from the power source's heat. An internal fire might ruin the insulation. Even if your character fixed the essential control wiring, now the cockpit might be inhospitable. Character limit reached.

Merging two of your ideas: the mechanic has been pulling parts from the deactivated sentient antique as new ones are on backorder. They're generic internal parts like circuit breakers, the generator, some control computers, encoders and sensors etc. Due to The Catalyst of the story, he must escape his workplace and has to jerry-rig the running gear from a crippled modern mech into the antique. He can barely get it running, for example he doesn't have enough circuit breakers to power the left arm, it's low on coolant so the generator is governed to 1/3 capacity, blah blah, and that would allow for physical growth/prowess to coincide with character growth as your story progresses. If you want to be REALLY sappy towards the climax, have a prominent side character wearing a religious symbol or something made of metal. When preparing for your final encounter, with absolutely zero spare materials otherwise on hand, somehow the necklace/ring/whatever can be shoved into the missing fuse slot, so now you're almost literally running on hopes and dreams.

For your short stories: Most technicians think most machine operators (clients) are retarded. Simple calls include resetting emergency-stop buttons, teaching them how to work the menus, or flipping a switch they bumped and didn't notice. Occasionally a veteran operator can show the technician a thing or two, or a unique quirk of their machine, such as having to set the language to french every startup to get it to clear its self-test for some godforsaken reason. This will vex the mechanic. Creativity is often required, and safety/common sense sometimes has to be ignored to get something unstuck or get to somewhere hard to reach. Have some inspiration. These will mostly be short stories about characters, not the problem your protagonist is actually solving, but these will let him demonstrate his knowledge.

I once had an idea for Kamen Rider, the motif of the series is mythology/divinities:

>protagonist's motif is Fenrir.

>Secondary Suzaku/Phoenix rider is either a girl or a boy, couldn't decide, can control fire and shoot flaming knives that resembles feathers.

>Tertiary is a female rider, Susanoo and Orochi inspired, and has a cool katana.

Other riders include:

>Archer inspired by Artemis and Princess Kaguya, wields a sharp bow that shoots magical arrows and can also be separated as twin blades

>Spear wielding rider based on chinese god Longwang and Lu Bu, can control water and rain

>Street fighter rider based on Thor and his goats with cool gauntlets that reminds of Mjolnir, can imbue his punches and kicks with lightning

And a few others, but I could not think of a story besides a fucking Battle Royale.

>no drawing skill, decide to write
>no more than 10 pages or so of worldbuilding and spare notes in 15 years
At least I can hope none of that was good enough to begin with so it's probably better this way

If you're too lazy to write it yourself, get a ghostwriter.

I've had an /m/ universe which I started planning years ago, originally as a Gundam AU, which completely changed into its own thing. I've gone a step further than a lot of people here and I actually have full novels written, though I really should get someone to proof-read them eventually. I also really want to find someone willing to design the robots with me, as that's something I cannot do by myself.
A hundred years into the future, a global conflict has been raging for decades between the United Nations and a socialist state formed from a union between Russia and China. Obviously this war is fought with mecha, and while it is a combined-arms setting featuring foot soldiers and tanks with mecha, the mecha are the dominant combat unit, despite being unable to fly until much later in the timeline. They're transported around by giant wheeled battleships. The protagonist is an angsty teenager who winds up discovering that they have a special ability to avoid certain death when facing off against the enemy's stolen prototype mecha.
I actually originally came up with the series by trying to come up with a realistic mecha control scheme that allows full control of the arms, fingers, legs, etc. rather than just handwaving that the computer does most of it. When I came up with that I decided to recycle story beats from the Gundam AU and remake it into a new setting.

From a certain point of view this is already sort of canon. The 100-year war IRL between England and France wasn't literally 100 years of fighting and certain parts of the Zeon government never officially gave up/signed treaties up until the end of Zeon as a political project. Axis and even Mars Zeon are fairly legitimate-looking continuity states from a historical perspective so we might imagine that in UC 400 when this is all getting taught in school on a colony somewhere that the whole period is just referred to as the Zeon war(s).

That’s literally just Sin and Punishment 1 with the Armed Volunteers as the focus characters

brainstormed some stuff with a buddy at work today, kinda sounded interesting after we put some thought in. i'm a sucker for the wasteland/cowboy/desert aesthetic, so i was thinking a wandering lawman in a gundam would be cool. that idea turned into him being a bioengineered savior kept in deep freeze until a post-cataclysm earth was ready to be revitalized for their return. sort of a mashup of gundam X, xabungle, an turn A with a little bit of fallout main character. it would probably end with a war bad reveal that the space race has been dead for ages anyway so it was all for naught or something like that. i wanted the earth mechs to be walker gear-like heaps of shit, like trucks with legs, while the MC's gundam (and a few others) would be more futuristic and capable of large-scale reformation. maybe nanomachines or something, a mass water purification system, something that could re-freeze polar ice caps, shit like that. that all sounded kind of deep too so that might be mostly a late-series reveal while most of the beginning is cool cowboy robot shootouts and robots with ponchos on and shit like that. probably some MC amnesia in there too so he can just be a cool wandering lawman for a while
