So there has been a recent interview with Gundam GQuuuuuuX director Kazuya Tsurumaki in which he describes how the show started with a plan, but was changed on the fly, with a lot of the ending being changed apparently while the show was airing(?)This is very interesting to me. No matter what people think about the show (I thought it was messy but a LOT of fun) or what overly negative shitposters say they think about the show (much of 4chan's negativity bias can safely be ignored as people trying to get a rise out of each other), it was probably the most fun I've had watching anime in at least a decade. Maybe the most fun I've had watching an anime, as it was airing, in my life. I will not pretend otherwise. Guessing at where the show was going and then seeing what actually happened the next week was a thrilling experience. But it was also a uniquely modern experience, where people were giving mass feedback to the show essentially in real time. This is part of why it was so much fun: this modern reality of mass social media discussion around a show as big as Gundam GQuuuuuuX, and the creators of the show apparently shifting and adjusting things in reaction to live feedback ....That is completely unique to our times. This is something to think about. The idea of starting a production with an outline of a plan, and then adjusting it live in reaction to the audience: that's quite exciting. I would not say I'd want everything to be that way, sometimes an artist has something to say and should say what they need to say, against the audience. But this is a fascinating reality of modern anime production. Like leaping into Zero Gravity.
>>23513390>a lot of the ending being changed apparently while the show was airing(?)I don't think it's that serious, the show was still being made while it was airing yes but there were no delays in schedule so I doubt it was "a sudden change" or something in a way that hurt production, the ending probably had changes from what they had planned but that's a given in original mecha shows.
>>23513390 >That is completely unique to our timesOur times are looking pretty fucking grim if that's the case.
>>23513390>This is part of why it was so much fun: this modern reality of mass social media discussion around a show as big as Gundam GQuuuuuuX, and the creators of the show apparently shifting and adjusting things in reaction to live feedback ....>That is completely unique to our times. And it's consistently lead to terrible works. It's a sign of creators with no backbone or vision who offload decision making to an incoherent mass. No wonder we barely see any works with long staying power or paradigm shifting gravitas in this kind of creative environment.
>>23513413>>23513433>these niggas think older works didn't shift during production in reaction to feedback
>>23513462They did. But I don't think they were anywhere near as reactive. The feedback wasn't immediate.
>>23513433>It's a sign of creators with no backbone or visionThe thing is, GQuuuuuuX does have a backbone. It does tell a story which was largely planned, even if details were changed on the fly.I am not saying I want completely unplanned shows, but I think this situation of immediate mass feedback is really interesting.
>>23513487They brought back Kira
>>23513462Having the thoughts of your audience and the general public being streamed to you 24/7 through a smartphone isn't the same as getting a few fanmail letters or seeing some headlines on the tv about your work.
>>23513496>a few fanmail lettersOkay tourist.
>>23513390Yes, the show was fucking garbage, we get it
>>23513494The internet existed when this show aired and Japan was somewhat ahead of the curve in internet culture then since they had higher quality internet
>>23513594The best gundam in 25 years.
>>23513610Even better than unicorn or thunderbolt?
>>23513617Unicorn and Thunderbolt are both adaptations of novel and manga, so they aren't comparable in terms of writing.GQX did bring back Tomino UC.
>>23513748>GQX did bring back Tomino UC.Maybe if Challia died a horrible death at the end. Alas he was Anno's self-insert so too precious to be killed off.
Two months since this slop concluded and its already mostly forgotten. This is something to think about.
>>23513838>>23513839Keep seething.
>'creativity'>steal 90% of your shit from the original gundamHuh.......................................
>>23513390This is already a thread. >>23512362 Both you and that OP didn't post a source to boot.
>>23513965Thought I saw yet another non bait thread that did post sauce. Was a recent panel, but I haven't watched it myself. At any rate, the issue of mass reactions being available to studios immediately, and the issue of this being a new modern reality (unlike what >>23513595 is suggesting) is a real issue worth thinking and talking about.
>>23514557Your zoomer observations aren't worth talking about, fucktard.
>>23514569First of all, not a zoomer. Second of all, I know your reflex is to rest on the comfort of your chronic negativity, but I am asserting that this modern reality is something to potentially be excited about. Something cool, interesting, and completely unique to the time.
>The idea of starting a production with an outline of a plan, and then adjusting it live in reaction to the audience: that's quite exciting. Problem is when writing you generally need multiple drafts to get things to work and doing it while airing probably means you are barley getting the first draft in, especially when the whole show is 1 season and not 2-4. Did they describe what they changed? I imagine the multiverse Lala was always going to be a thing but Shuji leaving and coming back in the multiverse gundam as an "adjustment".
>>23513390I'm all for improv in art but it works a hell of a lot better/easier in music than it does anywhere else.
>>23513390>modern stuff is dogshit for a number of reasons I know anon... I know
This kind of chronic negativity is getting really old >>23514714It's not just a 4chan problem. People can be even worse on the normalnet.
>>23514718its not chronic negativity at all, gwitch was disappointing and qux was somehow worse and being optimistic or trying to find isolated parts of the show that weren't as bad doesnt change that
>>23514851GQuuuuuuX sparked joy for me.
>>23515041many people enjoyed it, the ones seething are just a vocal minority

>>23513610actual retard, please rope troon
>>23513907Anon......i don't think they're "seething.">>23513610i can't wait to watch it
I don't really hate a story being written as it goes but it just didn't really pan out here.Too much of this show's story depended heavily on Shuji's characterization once you learned his true motivation, and his relationship with Lalah, both of which really did not feel well executed or even particularly interesting.Challia also felt pretty overbearing until the very end, as if he was hijacking the show from the supposed lead characters. And I don't really feel it had payoff either.
>>23513390>This is part of why it was so much fun: this modern reality of mass social media discussion around a show as big as Gundam GQuuuuuuX, and the creators of the show apparently shifting and adjusting things in reaction to live feedback ....>That is completely unique to our times. Is it...? I thought comic books were always like this with editorials and shit. Granted it wasnt billions of people at once just a few hardcore autists writing letters.
>Letting fan input effect story progression in real time >Unique to our times Bro, that's how they wrote Lost two decades ago.
>>23515046>vocal minori-ack
>>23516636Let's see with from mercury's reviews.
>>23513390>Maybe the most fun I've had watching an anime, as it was airing, in my lifeAh so you were living under a rock
>>23515889Too much of the story was left off screen for the viewer to fill in the blanks
>>23515889>as if he was hijacking the show from the supposed lead charactersWhat do you mean? He is the lead character.
>>23516800...it was a big rock
>>23516808Then they really should have given him a more important climax than just keeping Char busy while the fate of the universe is decided between three teenagers.
Man this show left me feeling so hollow. It's like I'm still waiting for a conclusion to all the build up and world building they spent time on In the show, only for it all to end on such a vague note. All those episodes setting up Machu and Nyaan being out against each other? Undone like it was never a real conflict. Shuji being some sort of happy go lucky newtype empath? I guess that was an act and he's actually a freaky stalker who's grown accustomed to simulating the murder of the girl he loves over and over. The aftermath of this bizarre twisted version of UC? The actual fate of Machu and Nyaan? Ehh who cares, it's summer time! Swimsuits!
>>23515732I assume when you sniffed random women the outcome was different?
>>23516891they weren't random
>>23516876In true Gundam fashion, the ending is yet again some newtype deus ex machina let down.
>>23513390>rewriting the show on the fly is exciting and modern!!yeah, just like US politics, where every week is a new filler arc written by idiots reacting to Twitter outrageAnno-tier hacks panic-rewriting Gundam is basically Biden trying to give a speech: no plan, no structure, just random words until the clock runs out.muh audience feedback is just code for lowest common denominator slop. All-time great Gundam wasn’t afraid to piss people off. Meanwhile Anno-tier hacks rewrite on the fly and then pretend it’s deep.Keep worshipping improv anime-by-committee if you want. I’ll stick with creators who actually have a spine.
>>23516876>Ehh who cares, it's summer time! Swimsuits! It wont be summer for long. Global cooling is in effect and eventually they wont have hot weather...
>>23516666I don't know what site he's using but an initial glance on google they seem equivalent with Witch doing slightly better but slightly more polarized.
>>23520718>yeah, just like US politicsWhat the fuck is wrong with americans.
>>23513390>much of 4chan's negativity bias can safely be ignored as people trying to get a rise out of each otherWhat a cope lol. I had defended this show in /m/ threads and had hoped for the best, but the last two episodes were just too much and I stopped giving the nepotistic parasites writing and directing this the benefit of the doubt - they just didn't give a shit to present a half-decent product that would stand on its own merits, that anybody but themselves would appreciate. I too would like to be paid for my circlejerk fanfiction of Gundam kek.
>>23516876>The aftermath of this bizarre twisted version of UC? The actual fate of Machu and Nyaan? Ehh who cares, it's summer time! Swimsuits!I'd like to believe that was kinda the point, and the show was meant to be some sort of call-out to how the franchise treats it's alternate universes. That they're supposed to be these self-contained stories and afterwards Sunrise just abandons them in order to crank out more OYW content, with even the presence of Turn A effectively making it so those timelines will eventually be consumed by the Black History. By leaving things open, it also leaves open the possibility of continuing the world of GQuuuuuuX and how it won't lead to the same results. It's not even the first AU version of the UC timeline, with Zeta ANT, Origin and Thunderbolt coming to mind but likely will never be followed up on, but GQuuuuuuuX was the one that made the RX-78-2 the destroyer of worlds so it's doing something a little different.I'd like to believe that, but it's likely that the fanboyism of the creators played more of a factor than any actual intent.
>>23525709Quiet zoomer.
>>23525727They already did it with eva rebuild, do it again would be a dick move
>>23525727It's actually a reference to the ending of the Gundam novel where Sayla visits the beach and knows she'll meet Amuro as a newtype ghost.
Tomino was right.
>>23526742Based.
>>23521676Oh nonononono, Gcuckies, our response?
>>23526742Considering all the stuff that this show takes from the novel, I'm inclined to believe this.
>>23513390Wow
>>23513390>This is part of why it was so much fun: this modern reality of mass social media discussion around a show as big as Gundam GQuuuuuuX, and the creators of the show apparently shifting and adjusting things in reaction to live feedback ....And people think G-Witch was directionless. This goyslop didn't even have a plan in mind, they really just went in blind like Hollywood does with cinematic universes hoping the nostalgiabux would be enough. No wonder it devolved into multiverse slop in the second half.
>>23513390It was a rushed mess. I thought episode 7 was pretty good and that Challia Bull came out still interesting, though.
>>23526742They should've took more from the novels
>>23513390the show felt hollow, and was just episode after episode of callbacks and references that became the main focus rather than the foundation for something substantial
>>23543204>complaining about UC characters appearing in a UC show.
>>23544702nigger youre acting like we havent had many UC shows that dont feel the need to remind you every 5 minutes its related to 79, even ignoring late UC, OVAs like 08th MS and 0083 always kept it classy
>>23544705>being this mad because a UC show had UC characters in it
>>23544710retard
>>23543181Rushed how? The story is pretty self contained.
>>23513390With only one cour, I can't imagine that anything but the last few episodes were actually changed with feedback in mind, not having most episodes done before airing starts is usually a major crisis. Anime don't air weekly because the episodes are being made in a week inbetween.
>>23550461this
>>23513748why not? like quuux, season 1 of Thunderbolt is a short run, self contained story. its also the best, most well paced gundam ive seen released in decades while quuux was, to my tastes, a complete mess of multiverse fan pandering, salvaged by some creative robot designs
>>23544710why are you intentionally dodging his point?
>>23553166Gucks trannies have no arguments, because they know their show is trash
>>23553161>multiverseNot really.
>>23513390I loved the show but the ending was fucking retarded. I hated it. Same thing Serial Experiments Lain, the first 99% of the show was incredibly captivating, just for the ending to completely shit all over everything. It's a shame when gewat anime has an awful finale.
>>23513390Show looks super retarded. Wish somebody writing this shit at least gave a fuck
>>23557154Nigga, what are you talking about? A bad ending can't erase that much greatness. Comparing Lain to this bullshit anime that was ass from the start is also insane.

>>23558970Filtered how
>>23559033BUY THE DIP
>>23559033Is this your ratings graph? In that case based
>>23516876>All those episodes setting up Machu and Nyaan being out against each other? Why would they continue to be against each other at the end of the series? Their rivalry hinged on two things: jealously over Shuji and Nyaan's reluctant involvement with Zeon military. Now that both Shuji and the particular faction that Nyaan was in are out of the picture they have zero reason to be against each other. In fact both of them are wanted criminals that will be sent to military court if they're caught and they have to live on the run, so it makes sense they rely on each other now.>Shuji being some sort of happy go lucky newtype empath? He wasn't though. He was always emotionally dull and clearly didn't give a shit about Machu's or Nyaan's one-sided infatuation with him.He was always shown as a very powerful newtype who was extremely carefree and emotionally dull.>The aftermath of this bizarre twisted version of UC? The actual fate of Machu and Nyaan?Yes, they're on the beach which is a callback to the first episodes. That was their plan all along anyway. Since they can't go back home, Machu says she wants to look for that universe's Shuji. The fate of that universe? It continues existing. As for the government, Zeon and all that shit it doesn't really matter. Gquuuuuux was never about the political side of things, it was always the story about a dumb teenage girl known as Machu that throws away her entire life pursuing a jobless, sweaty man twice her age that doesn't give a shit about her but stinks good and makes her pussy tingle. We are given a glimpse at a new Zeon faction being born but since they are Zeon niggers they will betray and kill each other taking the lives of hundreds of innocents in the process. If anything my real gripes with Gquuuuuux is that the series needed at least three times more episodes to flesh out every character. Also the whole thing with the Pomeranians and all those characters were completely pointless once the real plot began.
>>23559033>0080 on par with F91Was this graph randomly generated
>>23565874If I were a betting man I'd say Zeon moderates under Sayla in a similar manner to Chile, Taiwan and other historical fascist dictatorship turned democracies, while the the would be titans of the twelve olympians instead become something akin to Blue Cosmos but for spacenoids
>>23571193As in, they would very much like to see all the colonies crumpled up like tin cans*
>>23571194I also don't see Charllia Bull posing much of a threat to Sayla in the short term given their interests largely align at any rate, I'd wager he ends up as a Harry Ord sort of figure
