Heavy Mechanics
the weight is probably the last thing the designers put thought into.
>>23515843How is left heavier than right
>>23515882because steel is heavier than feathers
>>23515882gundams are made from titanium and aluminum carbon tub composite
>>23515882>>23516066same way that a F1 car weight about the same as a hand full of walmart bicycles but as big as a pickup truck
>>23516066This transformation still makes no sense to me
>>23515843>>23515882One of the main advantages of Luna titanium/Gundarium is how lighter it is while simultaneously being much sturdier than titanium ceramic, that’s partly why the RX-78-2 was so revolutionary, also the Gustav Karl has a movable frame and more body thrusters all over it
>>23515866Elephants are heavy.
>>23515866Wait what?
>>23520111Square cub law strain BTFO with superior materials science
>20 tonsWTF???
>>23521255Mobile suits are actually like 95% PVC pipe
>>23515843There's no viable reason for mobile suits to get that big since a beam rifle from a GM II will still melt through a Karl Gustav's armor like a hot knife through butter.
>>23521400Ok SNRI
>>23521424Not him but it's a valid point. Unless the entire suit has an I-field or coated in anti beam coating like Hyaku Shiki....then what's the point of making it bigger? You are just making a bigger target.
>>23521445I think theyre bigger to make Anaheim more money
>>23521445The Penelope survives a funnel missile barrage. The Banshee's entire leg gets vaporized by a single makeshift missile. The Mk-V and S/EX-S also both survive beam shots because their armor is thick enough, preventing incoms from deciding the battle. The base ZZ also survives a few beam hits, even the Jamru Fin's beam cannon
>>23521424Funny thing is MS miniaturization was supposed to promote cost effectiveness, except contemporary sources like MMM imply this actually had the opposite effect since most utilize specialized parts that require even more maintenance than full-sized MS to maintain peak efficiency
>>23521450>The Penelope survives a funnel missile barrage.By using its shield or shooting them down. >The Banshee's entire leg gets vaporized by a single makeshift missile. The missile hit an unarmored joint. Also banshee is pretty small compared to Penelope and Xi Gundam.>The Mk-V and S/EX-S also both survive beam shots because their armor is thick enough, preventing incoms from deciding the battle.I'm like 70% sure Ex-S survived because it had an I-field.>The base ZZ also survives a few beam hits, even the Jamru Fin's beam cannonZZ is coated with layers of anti-beam coating.
>>23521547>By using its shield or shooting them down.It gets overwhelmed at the end and takes the full 2nd wave of missiles across its entire body. That's why it gets disabled and falls into the water, but it survived the barrage mostly intact. >The missile hit an unarmored jointIt didn't. It hit the side of the lower leg armor. You can see the knee joint actually survives the explosion. >Also banshee is pretty small compared to Penelope and Xi GundamWhich is the point? Bigger, heavier MS CAN survive hits that easily destroy smaller MS. They're not just making the suits bigger for no reason. Bigger suits are more durable and with enough thrusters and verniers they're extremely agile. >I'm like 70% sure Ex-S survived because it had an I-field.The Mk-V doesn't though, and they even say the incoms won't be enough to take each other out. >ZZ is coated with layers of anti-beam coating. The shields probably have it but only the FA ZZ Gundam is said to have full body anti-beam coating. And IIRC the ZZ survives a hit to the backpack, which usually doesn't have ABC on any suit. Even the Hyaku Shiki only has ABC on the golden armor parts. Anyway the point is that heavy armor is effective against all sorts of weapons. The ZZ is even tankier than the Hyaku Shiki just by having thick enough armor and as fast if not faster just by strapping larger thrusters to it.
>>23521558>It didn't. It hit the side of the lower leg armor. You can see the knee joint actually survives the explosion.Debatable. It hit the joint area with weaker armor. >Which is the point? Bigger, heavier MS CAN survive hits that easily destroy smaller MS. They're not just making the suits bigger for no reason.Who are they designing these "bigger MS" fight against? There's no enemies left. The last faction the Federation fought was Char's Neo Zeon and his suits weren't missile spammers. And the Jegans did well.Neo Zeon remnants like the sleeves use older suits and don't have the money to missile spam. They barely have enough money to feed themselves.
>>23521558>The ZZ is even tankier than the Hyaku Shiki just by having thick enough armor Not how it works. Unless the armor is coated with ABC it will melt apart easily>and as fast if not faster just by strapping larger thrusters to it.Maybe in a straight line. But that just means ZZ Gundam is like a rocket
>>23521400>>23521424>>23521445Basically the Federation decided to experiment for a few years with super giant mobile suits. To test things out and see if It was viable and brought any benefits. Anaheim Electronics loved it since they could charge more money for big suits. But after like 5 to 8 years the Federation said,"Nope giant MS are stupid. These suits are too big, too expensive, require too much maintenance, and don't fit inside standard ships and standard hangar. We need to go back to regular sized MS or even smaller. Bigger is not better."Anaheim Electronics hated this and tried to fight it but lost.
>>23521615They should have made THICK shortstack MS instead with BIG thrusters. Best of both worlds.
>>23521605>Maybe in a straight line. But that just means ZZ Gundam is like a rocketThe ZZ is shown extremely agile in its debut, basically vanishing from sight at times, although they play it down later.
>>23521787Eh...ZZ gets tagged several times by Neo Zeon grunts. But just shrugs off the attacks. Even the core fighter took a hit and kept going. ZZ is not agile. Just overpowered for its size.
>>23521683Thats basically SD Gundam.
>>23520111It's hard to guess the weight of something that doesn't exist.
Sun Robo is the fattest fat boy
>>23521400that's just objectively false which is something you would know if you ever watched anything
>>23521262Mazinger also set a precedent by being 18 meters tall and only 20 metric tons.
>>23524105>all that extra armor>still gets mogged by a thinner and shorter mobile suit.Lmao
>>23524173>bulky bouncer rekt by sealwho would have guessed
>>23515866The Neo Zeong only needs to operate in space and most of its size comes from fuel tanks and what are effectively gun barrels. It's huge but it's not a solid brick.
>>23515866It's not as tall or heavy as Danguard, but traveling through time is definitely faster than Mach 15.
>>23523908It might be really accurate considering it’s based off basically a space ship. I’d like to see a comparison with a real life space craft’s weight roughly the same volume as a mobile suit
>>23524173Piloted by a nepo baby. That's why
>>23516071An F1 car is nowhere near the volume of a truck, and one would hope a Gustav Karl does not cost 25x as much as a GM either. Actually most of this much memed length is just hollow carbon fiber at the ends, you could remove at least 20% of it with no functional effect but a slight reduction in aerodynamic downforce.
>>23525429F1 isn't fun anymore. So much rules and regulations have been added. Whenever some team comes up with an innovation, the F1 committee always bans it. I stopped watching a few years ago.
