It never did. Remember they've gone through four failures already - at this point they gave up on that, the Muv-Luv we used to know only exists through Tactics at this point. That's the game anchor is working on with fuse.

Best to consider Girls Garden its own thing. There's a couple people from anchor still around like Tashiro Hayato and Matsumura "Tororo" Kazutoshi, but the company itself isn't credited with involvement. The director who unlike the fat fuck actually played the trilogy said he considered it self contained. I've seen posts that Muvluv should've ended there from time to time, but it's the first time I saw someone with some actual authority echo the sentiment. While it would've been great if age understood that after 2006, or avex when they bought the IP, better now than later.

The problem as has been pointed out previously is that the entire ethos of the trilogy is flawed based on how all the spinoffs have to refer back to it and each time lessen the impact of the BETA when they barely show up until over halfway through Alternative as a horror moment when they were only talked about up until then, and at that point everything swiftly heads towards the conclusion where they're neutered. agree, I would like to see a Girls Garden with more of its identity (visually speaking) and keep things like fortified suit, just as they kept the TSF, and more importantly, not be a live service game, lmao. I very much doubt that the change of perspective from civilian to soldier can be maintained in a game that has no end and has to keep the same game cycle and mechanics forever.

That aside, I'm also not a fan of making (allegedly) copycats of old memorable characters, and according to some, the story is rubbish so far, although the first few chapters of the story being bad is a common syndrome in this type of game.
