I am halfway through the show. Why does the combat suck so much? It has hands down one of the worst, if not worst, mecha fighting in all of Tomino anime. Did they not get any budget? or Is it because Nagano's designs for Grand Cher and Brain make it hard to animate?I like the story and characters are decent too, so I will stick till the end but hope it improves.

From what I've heard it had serious budget constraints, and that's why the mecha 'teleport' sporadically, not just to travel but even to simply reposition their framing in a scene with as few in-between frames as possible.There is actually at least one decently animated combat scene from what I recall though. The climactic fight with Grand Cher Volonthe. I always reference that segment for how the mecha animation is Brain Powered was "supposed to be", In my mind.

Yes Wing used a ton of it but compare it to say, SEED which also used a ton of stockfootage and it's night and day. Wing was consistently well animated while SEED's original airing was full of quality(more so due to production issues than budget, but still).

Visually it was mostly dull, the show could have used some more change in scenery.Jonathan was the highlight... for two episodes. Hime did most of the heavy lifting, Yuu was pretty flat but still compelling, poor Kanan, Quincy needed more screen time cause she owned every scene she was in. Neat show, 8/10. I want to fuck Anoa.

And I think Dunbine Aura Battlers did that too but my memory light just be hazy. It kind of bridged the gap between what partially inspired Brain Powerd and what lead to Turn A. Also if made them kind of feel like buzzing bugs or something.Obviously I wish everything was as good as the Baronz fight though. I just found the show endearing that weird shit and flaws like this made if more charming for me.
