If you put a Gundam's head on a grunt suit, is it a Gundam?
>if I put a ferrari badge on my fiat, is it a ferrari now?
>>23532104Worker for Ground Gundam (GM head) and Zeta Gundam (Zaku head)
>>23532104Not really, see the M1 Astray and Murasame.
>>23532127I meant, the original identity of the body is the main identity
>Some v symbol on its head>It's a prototype, or one of a kind mobile suit with a mass produced equivalentThere, solved it.
>>23532104If Banrise explicitly says it's a Gundam (within and/or outside the source material), then it's a Gundam.
>>23532130tell that to them trans-am people and they'll call you a bigat
>>23532104No, but if you put the word Gundam on the model kit box it is.
>>23532150This.
>>23532104I love the setting of Gundam. I love most of the lore of UC Gundam. I love the designs of the grunt suits, mobile armors, tanks, and spacecraft of Gundam. But I hate Gundams themselves. I don't like their stupid samurai faces.
>>23532114A little bit, yes.
>>23532104No. A gundam needs to a prototype or high performance MS that practically redefines a thing about warfare. Lets take the RX-78 for an example. Its the feddies first MS, it has a learning computer + a beam rifle, can re enter the atmosphere, etc. This combination of factors is basically what makes it a traditional gundam. The ground gundams, despite the name, are basically just Ground GM's with gundam heads. You could say the Mk 2 is not a gundam by this definition, but the moveable frame is a core technology of every mobile suit going forward in UC. Hell theres a bunch of suits in UC that are actually just grunts with gundam heads on them purely for psychological reasons, the biggest example being some random GM2 with one in a manga somewhere. The biggets example of this are the Astrays. The M1 Astray is not a gundam, despite having a gundam head, cause its just a grunt with a gundam head on it. But the Red Frame is a gundam, because its a prototype. Same with the blue destiny, its technically a gundam cause of EXAM. Thats how it works in universe anyway, most of the time.In reality its just like this >>23532150
>>23532380If you don't love the MK2 you might as well just go to hell now and save yourself time.
If it's called a Gundam, then it's a Gundam.
>>23532472I don't hate the body shape, I just don't like the samurai face and V-fins. I'd like UC Gundams themselves a lot more if they all ad GM heads
>>23532455>A gundam needs to a prototype or high performance MS that practically redefines a thing about warfareI'm pretty sure there are plenty of gundams that don't do anything new and are just generically high performancee.g., F91 is just a high spec model, it doesn't do anything new. all the tech on it is a refined version from a previous gundam. same with the victory 1, and arguably the V2.
>>23532104>put a fake Gundam head on a regular GM for psychological warfareThat 's my favourite GM
>>23532104What does "Gundam" mean? That's the question you should be asking.
>>23532380Agreed. Zeta and its variants usually look better because they tone down the "face"
>>23532676Heroic symbol of the Federation. Even in V Gundam the Gundam face alluded to the legend. In GQX, it was a symbol of Zeon as the public strongly associated Gundam as a Zeon MS and did not know that it was captured.
>>23532455In Kondo Kazuhisa's non canon works, Gundam Mk2 B(land type) was mass produced as commander machines in UC 0092. It reflects how in video games where you could mass produce anything, the hero Gundams from anime are just high performance machine choices.
>>23533896In other times, Gundams were known as allies of the underdogs, including fighting against the Federation. E.g., AEUG's Gundam Team. It's part of why some Zanscare pilots complained about the Gundam being used by their enemies, and why Chronicle at one point tells his allies not to recognize it as an legitimate Gundam.
>>23533925Excellent piece of evidence. I was rewatching V Gundam recently in light of the KO 1/100 Shokew. The Victory Gundam wasn't very powerful but it had the Gundam symbol. Great use of terrain and modular spare parts tactics. Less plot armor as this facilitated the protagonist to take a lot of damage. Still my favourite UC to date especially the mention of the Gundam legend after 73 years within UC.Funny how, Gyunei calls Hi Nu Gundam Gundam modoki just like the Re Gz. He still wanted Amuro to abandon his machine when he took Kyara hostage.
>>23532114doesn't Fiat own farrari?>>23532144in 08th MS team there were multiple gundam units, though not enough to consider them mass produced
>>23532104A Gundam is a special Zaku
>>23533948Yeah, Victory is quite entertaining with its fights. I believe that was the same fight where Uso attacks in "reverse">Funny how, Gyunei calls Hi Nu Gundam Gundam modoki just like the Re Gz. He still wanted Amuro to abandon his machine when he took Kyara hostage. The scene was pretty interesting - Gyunei also manages to accidentally form a connection and tap into the Hi-Nu's psycoframe just enough to hear snippets of Kayra's conversation with Amuro... only to realize it's because this psycoframe was salvaged from Gyunei's previous unit that was abandoned earlier.
>>23532586Eh, sure the Bio Computer is using a bio sensor but the SPE thing is a whole different thing. F91's a bad example. A better one'd probably be somethin like the Pixy.
I'm a gundam!
>>23532104I'd argue a gundam is the master mold that mass produced machines are later based off. They tend to be unique or limited run with higher specs that make massive production as-is not cost effective.
>>23532104>What is a Gundam?
>>23532104there are real gundams and there are """gundams"""
whatever marketing slaps on the model kit box.
>>23532455>The M1 Astray is not a gundamYes it is, SEED's classification of a gundam based solely on the is based on the operating system a suit is running on rather than the suits actual performance specs or build. Just about everything SEED is a technically a gundam even the Zakus and Goufs, they use G.U.N.D.A.M operating systems too. And if want to talk about GMs not being gundams. GM standards for "Gundam Massproduced." The entire point of GMs is for them to be gundams, able to be manufactured as "standard issue".
>>23532130tell that to the Moon Gundam
>>23532104If banmco calls it one it is one.
>>23532380Then you're kinda dumb because the gundam face variety is huge.
