just finished Gargantia and I was curious what everyones opinion on it is.I thought that it was generally good but had some weird flaws to it, for instance EP 5 and 6 are basically filler episoides despite the show not being based on an light novel or manga and the rest of the show feeling rushed with most of the important plot points only occurring during the last quarter of the show
Fucking retard.
>>23546340Honestly one of my favorite series in recent memory. But as you said it felt extremely rushed at the end to do all the reveals and wrap everything up. Should've been 2 cour to do it all properly, which could've included those OVA things so that the big bad wasn't made a character AFTER the series was already over
>>23546340It's kind of one of those shows were I liked it but I also wish it were longer because it only feels like it's starting just as it starts to end. I wanted to see more salvage life. Maybe a few more episodic moments to give it some character. But on the overall it was entertaining.
It has my favorite "was supposed to be dramatic but instead was unintentionally hilarious as fuck" scene of all time.
>>23546512Now that you mention the OVA what was the deal with introducing the land nations only to not really do anything with them? I assuming that the original plan was to set up a 2nd season before they recycled those ideas for the 2 light novels.
>>23546659>It has my favorite "was supposed to be dramatic but instead was unintentionally hilarious as fuck" scene of all time.Which scene was that?
>>23546670I'm gonna guess he means this one. Wherein a young girl dies of a disease and the alien command who had gone all heart of darkness uses this to make her a martyr to turn her fleet in a cult like band of self sacrifices who will gladly die for their cause.
>>23546677that was pretty funny. By the way how long was Kugel dead before the start of the series? His body disintegrates after Striker's cockpit is opened so it had to be a long time but the sisters of the girl who died appear in the ova and they don't look much older then they were in the special so it couldn't be that long ago
I really liked it, but I also have an inherent bias towards waterworld settings.
>>23546713I mean in their salt water infested nightmare of an aquatic planet I can't imagine bodies lasting long. Probably decompose really fast.
>>23546849 but his body was sealed in the cockpit I donβt see how it could decompose that fast. I assume that originally Kugel was supposed to have arrived much earlier then Ledo did but they changed it when the OVA came out to connect it back to the special episode
>>23546340It exists. That's my opinion.
terrible show>plot is retarded>barely any mech fights >side characters are annoying>nothing happens until last 4 episodes
>>23546340Gargantia deserved more attention.Far smarter than it look.It approaches the topic of transhumanism and what is required to be/remain a civilization. It's pointed out that a lifeform that have no problem living anywhere would also see little need for intelligence or to cooperate with others. The Hideauze accidentally devolved themselves by linking their automated adaptability to only their base needs. Had the Galactic Alliance not provided them constant stimulus and selection, they would have probably morphed into harmless space flowers.
On their side the Galactic Alliance also failed even if less spectacularly, they grew so hostile at the notion of changing that they weakened their own genetic codes and slowly rejected any other mindset, even at the cost of killing more and more mutant.Eventually they just started brainwashing themselves, with robot fully capable of overriding human operator if they have any reason/order to do so.They are still a civilization but only because unlike the Hideauze their automated systems were still expected to receive order, meaning they needed someone to give the order. Since they rejected genetic improvements, it prevented them from getting a single individual capable of ruling over everyone else. Their goal is also contradictory you can't find another planet with a biosphere compatible with human, you'd have to create it from scratch or engineering themselves to live on more planets. We could imagine the only reasons they didn't turn into Hideauze is because other AI deduced like Chamber that they had to go against order to obey the spirit of the order.
>>23548388you sound like a midwit
>>23546669Yes. Land is one of two "land" nations. The other slips my mind right now, but it went a bit like this in what would have been S2. The larger of the two nations, the remains of the Himalayas are at war with Land, the remains of the highest points in SA. They also have access to the last OE, however, Land has something even better, a crashed Galactic Federation ship.
>>23552207That sounds interesting. Is there any good way to read the light novels?
>>23548388Agreed my fellow homosexual.
>>23552538Iirc, just type into Google translated Gargantia novels.
>>23547750yeah it's this
The Hideauze did nothing wrong
>>23546515The extra story where Ridget gets trashed and dirty dances is 11/10.
I liked the girls in the harem outfits.
Rackage!
