Aura farming & hype moments: the anime
>>23548307>Aura farmingRetarded, meaningless zoomer buzzphrase. Get off my /m/.
What is it with Wing fags lately?
>>23548439the pendulum is swinging back and queers are going all out

I hate zoomers so much
>>23548416This is one of the few situations where I disagree. Once in awhile, a phrase enters the english lexicon that perfectly describes and compartmentalizes a trend that'd been around for ages, and aura farming is not only a perfect example, it's exactly what Gundam Wing's Gundams do for 70% of their screentime, complete with posing in front of explosions they were the cause of seconds ago.Not everything the zoomers invent is to be disposed of with such aggression. Sometimes, they think in ways you don't, or are incapable.
>>23548307>>23548517I finished Wing like a week ago and pretty much came away with this. I don't think it's a terrible thing, but I was just surprised.Wing has been a cornerstone of anime not just in Japan but in America for 30 years now, and so I was always intrigued about what it was about. It's one of 4 Gundam shows(now 3) I have left to watch. So I was extremely shocked that the series is so incoherent and that so many of its characters are paper thin. But what it lacks in substance it makes up for in aesthetics, which is what has carried Wing over the last 30 years. Which is a pretty impressive feat imo.I feel like along with pic related there's like 5 other key Gundam wing images that really encapsulate this. It's a pretty shallow work from a writing standpoint, but the imagery is just so alluring and makes you think there's way more depth to be explored than there actually is.

>>23548307So true!
>>23548307I really wish you wouldn't talk like that.
>>23548539I like MLA format
>>23548517NTA but you're just describing theatrical posturing. And I'd rather use "theatrical posturing" than zoomershit "aura farming" or millennialtard "campy" or boomercripple "corny". Total brainrot death
>>23548517It's just a retarded zoomer phrase for showing off. There is no need to reinvent the wheel. Plus anything originating from gookcomics or pop should be shunned on sight.
Wing subverts expectations
Normie board.
>>23548307>Aura farming Fucking amateurs don’t know what they’re talking about
>>23548650This is an APA board buster
>>23548307Filtered to the max
>>23548517>>23548530Its not just that Wing uses senseless action to appear cool, its also that it wears themes about war, peace and virtue to enhance the coolness of its characters and fights by giving them a superficial sense of profundity and pathos, but handles said themes in a shallow and reductive way because it only cares about the aesthetic value they have. There is a suggestion of depth but its thematic subtext becomes incoherent when you scrutinize it too heavily because the writers themselves didnt think about it very hard.
>>23548307>>23548416Swag & Epic moments
>>23549397It's funny and ironic because one of Wing's core themes was the "aesthetics of warfare" which is probably one of its most interesting points, and while I commend it for even attempting something like that, especially in the 90s, it's just so funny they underbake it.Another funny thing in Wing is how they talk about "peace". Relena talks about peace and has the other characters repeating her platitudes, but we never really get any insight into what she means by peace. It's almost as if they're fighting a war purely based on ideals that have no tie to their material reality. We only get hints of the actual material underlying political issues of their world scattered throughout the story. When Relena talks about peace she's being too abstract and speaking at a high level.
>>23549466I believe Relana herself realised it and that is why she drops the Peacecraft name in EW, then tells people that if they want peace they gotta fight for it.
>>23549533In hindsight it does seem like Relena was WAY too preachy about it in the tv show. Almost seem like she was intentionally written to be a satire of bleeding heart activist types. But if that was the case the series lets her get away with too much for me to be able to full believe that.I plan on rewatching EW soon so maybe I'll come away with a similar observation as you.
>>23549577Let's not forget that Relena was like 14 or 15 in the show. She's a rich high school girl with main character syndrome (even though she is a main character, she's not supposed to know it)
>>23549577>intentionally written to be a satireWing writers are not that self aware.
