i'm watchin a Dual Audio version of 08th i found on Nyaa, and the dialogue is either extremely quiet, or not present, despite subtitles being there.if i swap to dub, i can hear everyone clearly. music and SEs are fine in both versions. is this normal?if not, what's the best torrent for it? this was the only one i could find that wasn't like, 50+ gb.
>>23548815Update your VLC player to the latest version. Then increase the internal audio. Some anons are using old players that dont know how to handle newer video files and glitch out. Like with HDR video looking washed out because you are using some old version of MPC player.Time to update.
>>23548828my VLC is updated, i am pretty sure. it's updated enough that my settings menu doesn't match any of the old guides i've found for fixing issues with "segmented" videos.(i had this issue with ZZ).i can try to update, but in order to rule out corrupted files, i'm retorrenting the series.as a sidenote, is there a reason that all of the versions of 08th are so large? it's the largest gundam series, file size wise, that i've found. everything else is below 10.
okay, i retorrented. that didn't help.my VLC says "you have the latest version of VLC Media Player".
i just freshly installed VLC from the start; i'm still having issues.if anyone has any ideas, i'd be very grateful. i was really hoping to watch this OVA tonight.
>>23548815>if i swap to dub, i can hear everyone clearly. music and SEs are fine in both versions. is this normal? If it only affects the 08th MS team release, then my guess is whoever created the original files probably set the audio levels too low for the Japanese audio track. Since those files are MASSIVE, then It would be a crap ton of work to fix the minor audio issue and remake the files. The creator probably doesn't want to do it again. So most people just tolerate it.If you use VLC, just go to the internal volume slider and increase the volume. I believe the default let's you go up to 125% or even 150%. I can't recall exactly, but there should be settings in the preferences panel that let you adjust and fine tune the audio options to potentially go even higher.
>>23548881the problem is that in JP, the music and sound effects are fine. it's JUST the spoken dialogue.
>>23548883On the discs, those audio tracks are usually seperate for purposes of 5.1 surround sound. For example:You have one audio track for Japanese music. You have one audio track for Japanese sound effects. And you have one audio track for Japanese dialog.Sometimes where may be even more for each. Such as 2 or 3 tracks for sound effects. The person who created the ripped the audio files has to pay special attention to all of this when extracting the audio from Japanese discs, and merging them together. Sometimes the software used for making these files can accidently lower volume or affect the audio in unexpected ways.Another simple yet funny error that can mess things up is sometimes the creator of the file can accidently have their speakers turned down too low (or too high) to notice that the audio levels aren't correct or calibrated.I won't bore you with any more details. But the answer is that it's basically "creator error". And he either didn't notice or doesn't care enough to fix it. So you will have to adjust your speakers and volume.Does your video file have 5.1 surround sound? Or is it 2.1 audio? Does it give you the option to adjust audio levels for each individual audio track or use a mixer? If not, then you may just have to live with the dub. It's annoying, but not unbearable. Or you will have to find a different release from another group. I think the OCZ group made their own release years ago. Try theirs.
>>23548889i have the SXAles release. it has 5.1 and 2.0this is the only release i could find for 08th on Nyaa that was under 20gb.
>>23548889i was able to fix it following your advice. i think it's because i'm using old analog speakers on a modern OS. i had this issue with Halo 2, which only outputs properly in Stereo mode if you have two speakers. i have more than two, so the audio was like this.thank you for your help!
>>23548955Oh. That's definitely another possibility. If the audio file is set to 5.1 but your speakers are 2.1, then the audio will not come out correctly from the speakers. You need to choose the 2.1 audio track.I've experienced this before.
>>23548965actually, i took a nap after "fixing it" and it seems like only some audio was fixed.where can i get the release that you mentioned? i don't see it at all on the website with their name. i only saw one of the SEED shows.
>>23548815if it's the EG Miller's Report that's sorta my faultI pitched in the iso for the R1 but it turned out I had the botched pressingalso you can force karaoke mode lazily in some stuff by dropping the center channel in 5.1, like it works pretty great on the 5.1 mix of Heavy Metal
>>23549199https://nyaa.si/view/1226792i have this release.
>>23549203yeah that might be an issue with the center channel, either it's not on or it's not feeding or it's the wires or whatever
The real problem is these blewray rips all sound like they used a soup can and strings for the audio despite being 5.1 or higher and its entirely inherent to the format you buttpirates are stealing these from not the guy who ripped them.
>>23549211this is just an issue with 08th. i did find a different release after asking some friends who came online. this realse is from Hi10. nyaa.si/view/1147447somehow, this one slipped by earlier. thank you all for your help!>>23549236i don't believe piracy is an issue. i have a very nice set of speakers and i have not had issues with audio quality.
Just never choose 5.1 surround sound lol
>>23549273i don't think i ever selected that option. i am unsure what the actual issue was, because i got another release that works fine. i have never had issues with VLC.
>>23549568People hate on VLC because back in the day there used to "player wars" and people would argue endlessly about which player was 'better'. But all those other video player projects died long ago. VLC is (more or less) the last one standing. Turns out being steady and reliable is much better than having experimental features.
>>23549611VLC had plenty of legitimate issues for a long time. It wasn't just people griping about their pet enthusiast whatsit not being on there.
>>23548815Just go to your sound settings and turn on the volume equalizer, It works great for pretty much any series where the dialogue volume is too low.
>>23549983i think it was the release that i had. i found a different release for 08th that worked fine. i have other shows and films from various sources that work fine.
by the way, is "Miller's Report" an extension of the main OVA series?
>>23551275It's a recut into a film, with the injection of a new character to provide a framing story.
>>23551635is it necessary to watch?
>>23551746No, not really. As far as "movies" go this is basically just a 50 minute clipshow of episodes from the middle episodes of 08th MS Team and a tiny amount of new animation that barely mattersit was originally made as an accompanying animation for the Endless Waltz movie airing in Japanese theatres. 08th MS team and endless waltz targetted sorta different genre so it was basically a teaser to get wing fans to buy 08th MS team videotapes.
>>23551906thank you for the information. i have only seen UC, so Endless Waltz has no appeal for me.
