-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobilephotoresizer

-= BIOMECHA GROUPBUILD =-

Build a mecha/cyborg with a visibly biological component integrated into the machine. This can include:
>Mecha that naturally have some sort of organic component to them (Evangelions, Aura Battlers, etc)
>Mecha that have organic elements attached/fused to them, willingly or otherwise
>Cyborgs, androids, and human with mechanical attachments/enhancements (Robocop, Kamen Rider, mecha musume, etc)

Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

>>
>>23550862
One of the nice things about gunpla that you don't really get with other forms of modelling is that in between or during big projects involving painting or custom modifications or whatever, you can always just pull out a high grade and have a simple little build over a day or two that comes out looking about right. Can't really do that with planes or tanks.

I don't understand how they get away with it. They have like 4-5 competitors for every ship/tank/plane and yet all of them have bad molding issues. You would think one would be like "we should copy those Mecha models and win on quality and charge for it", but they don't.

I got an ultrasonic cleaner to get oils and sanding dust off of pieces after I'm done.
However, the dust just stays after the water evaporates, and sanding dust can also persist in crevices. What can I do about this?
>>
>>23551229
give it a quick squiz with a semi-stiff brush
>>
What does varying the PSI for painting do to the piece you are painting? Should you basically just go as low as you can atomized the paint? Or is there an interesting effect from going higher?
>>
>>23551229
Get a colander and rinse off the residual sanding dust/water. Use a toothbrush to get all the dust out of crevices. Sometimes there's no easy way around a big pain in the ass. But if it's worth doing, it's worth doing well.
>>
>>23551209

I get it with Sandrock/Heavyarms, but Altron/Deathscythe Hell/Wing Zero are all VERY different from both the originals and the EW versions. And Altron aside I prefer the TV Versions of all of them.

Just get what you think is cool. The kits before the Mk-II aren't that great, and buying the Strike necessitates buying the Skygrasper as well which is sold separately (either that or the Perfect Strike expansion parts from P-Bandai, which does include the Aile, but at that point you may as well just buy the full retail Perfect Strike). Of the newer ones, the only one I've seen not get recommended much is the 00 Seven Swords, but I think part of that is just because it doesn't look as cool as 00 Raiser.

This is all assuming that budget and pricing isn't an issue. For instance, the PG Exia supposedly is only good if you get the LED kit to go with it, but there are third-party ones that are probably just as good if not better while not costing an arm and a leg.

Good lighting is a necessity for painting
>>
>>23551588
and even if your spray booth has a built in light strip, they're usually 6500k which makes colours appear different
i actually turn my spray booth light off and use my 5500k desk lamp instead when i'm painting at night. in the day time the natural lighting coming in from the windows is usually enough to offset the altered colour perception from the 6500k both light so i just use the booth light in the daytime
>>
>>23551588
Know that now but the problem is that I don't use a spray booth. I just paint outside in the garden. And I can only get direct sunlight in morning, but I sleep in the mornings because I work the night shift.

I think I'll just use pink primer if I want to paint something white in the future.

hes pretty expensive but very good. aside from the guns needed to be color corrected. the problems that were apparent with the original x and zero from the line have been fixed, and they've even prepainted the mouth on the neutral face now. Honestly I wish they'd just reanimate the whole series in this style with this level of quality. That looks beautiful and Mobile Suit Gundam deserves it. Id take that over more Hathaways flash.

Id even take "The Origin" version if they'd just commit to doing the whole thing instead of just the flashback or doan's island, though Id perfer just a reanimated original version. Sure, MSG kits are still among their most popular, but they have to realize that the low budget 70s animation is a pretty big barrier for entry for people. I know a lot of people that struggled to get into UC because of how old, and frankly bad, the animation in the 1979 original was. Movies helped by reanimating some of the most egregious moments and condensing the series down but it didnt solve the issue that the show had some really poor animation, even for its time.

If you're bamco and you want to keep Gundam relevant for the next 45 years, fans are aging out, you need to do something like this eventually. Maybe for the 50th anniversary, just go all out, make the animation something to be proud of. Gundam The Origin, 50 episode TV series 2029. Get a whole new generation hooked on mainline UC so you can keep selling kits far into the future.
>>
>>23551969
I'm glad I managed to get one; but I could only get the clear armor edition so it's gonna need a lot of paint.
>>
>>23551909
Gimme Gouf first.
>>
>>23551970
Bamco is extremely retarded, anon. The first time they tried gaining fans in the West they thought showing the original 0079 after showing Wing would get people onboard U.C.

For some reason they treat the original show and movie comps as some sort of untouchable baseline that they can only dance around and not remake or update.

Instead you only get derivates based off the original work like Char Origin OAV, the Doan's Island movie, GQuux, or Thunderbolt but nothing that actually goes back and takes a look at the source show again.
>>
>>23551970
they already solved the aging fans problem with AUs. reiterating on the same thing only ever alienates the existing fanbase. do it badly and new ones will be warded off. also, regardless of what you think about the visual quality, 0079 is such a massive cultural landmark that probably every frame of the show has been referenced in some other work. that's not something a remake could ever recapture.
>>
>>23550646
i was going to make the hg xi the next victim on my scribing practice altar but the design is pretty detailed already so I don't really see many places where lines could be added without making it too busy
>>
>>23552026
No. At best that just kicked the can down the road a few years, you attract a few fans of that new AU but unless they're motivated to then actually sit through 0079 and get into UC proper they're ephemeral.

Pre-2017 manuals are only in Japanese so I'm guessing he misread the symbols that instruct you to assemble first (big white circle) or last (big black circle) then had to separate it by hand. That or the parts are misaligned.
>>
>>23552191
The PG Phenex already costs an arm and a leg, and it had the benefit of already having the R&D for the basic design done for the PG Unicorn. A retail gold chrome PG-sized kit is going to be a commercial failure right out of the gate.

Bandai has the idea of making the parts too large, large parts equals to expensive molds and expensive to maintain from degradation.

shipping costs also come to play, the weight is not much of a problem, but the box is, the large box meaning less stuff you can pack a crate in, meaning it would definitely costs more to ship units

Honestly, P-Bandai wouldn't be so bad if it was like pre-order instead of limited supply + lottery system.
Like, just open a pre-order window for a month every year or two, let everyone order (full payment) and then print the P-Bandai kit according to the number of order.
500 orders = print 500 boxes
50,000 orders = print 50,000 boxes

I don't think they can just go on "we got 50k orders this month so we're printing 50k", but they should having an E2046 style of pre order system in which production will begin once the threshold is met and then the next batch round will proceed.

>>
>>23552981
>where they can only care about the girls and anything related to her
Well they intentionally made character kit for both Suletta and Mirione for obvious reason and both of those kits flopped. It is abit hard to define Gundam, it is not always about some tragic war or tame highschool drama, but there must be a universal, generally accepted value in Gundam that everyone can agree. G-Witch doesn't feel like Gundam, it has a handful of things that are highly personal from the writer himself and he just shit those all over the story without a second thought.

Overall a very interesting kit and your only option of you want a FA Hyakushiki

Worth it for all it packs: diecast parts for the inner frame, Leds for the eyes and backpack, the FA parts, all the weapons, a base and even waterslide decals

With everything put together this bad boy has a weight of over 0.5kg, very chunky

It is not perfect, some nubs in the golden parts are very noticeable but these are minimum since almost everything is undergated

The waist to torso connector is also a bit loose but I think this is better to avoid a potential accident

Range of movememt is limited for the head and shoulders but that is inherent to the design of this thing

Highly recommended

thin your paints and apply less pressure on the brush while painting. if you are using acrylics, use decent quality acrylics not ikea childrens' paint
>>
I do know now that thinned PVA is best to use when adding on foliage or moss details
but another thing I forgot to ask was if its best to do so before or after the clear coat
>>
>>23553396
After.

I ACCIDENTLY CUT OFF A TINY PEG AHHHHHHH
>>
>>23553411
What kind of peg? One essential for articulation? You sure you can't just glue it?
>>
>>23553415
One that goes on the back of the heel on the inner frame for the SNAA Tristan. Looks like it was meant to hold a heel skirt armor piece. I found it in my nub cup, used Mr. Cement S to glue a bit of similar size/color runner to the end, and I'm waiting for the new peg to cure for a bit before I cement it in place at the back of the heel. Hopefully, it'll hold once it comes time to do the armor.
>>
>>23553411
Mazel tov!
>>
>>23553419
Fingers crossed for you. Worst come to worst, you can try to strengthen it with a bit of paperclip or metal rod. Just drill a hole in both ends of the broken peg, Use the paperclip or rod to bridge the gap, then glue it all back together.
>>
>>23553348
How does it behave on the stand? Are the joints tight enough for all the FA equipment?
>>
>>23553437
Oh, it's WAY too tiny for drilling. The peg itself is smaller than the tiniest drill bit. But I'm optimistic about it. The weirdly soft plastic that SNAA uses melts really well. After a few passes with the Mr Cement, I can't even see the seam between the original peg and the replacement sprue.
>>
>>23553446
Not bad. Like I said, hope it works out in the end. I have a set of micro drill bits for my pin vise just in case a tiny bit breaks on me. I thankfully haven't had much call for them outside of boring out head Vulcans and such though.
>>
>>23553442
it is waaaaay to heavy for the arm of the stand to properly hold up, as it will tilt backwards and the weight will bring the entire thing down

it is not impossible for the stand to hold the kit but it requires way too much issues of finding the proper balance with the risk of merely blinking causing it to fall down so I won't bother
>>
>>23553446
my drill bits go down to 0.1mm and i have 0.25mm rod, i doubt your plastic pegs are that small
>>
>>23553442
as for the joints the only issue I see is the connector of the waist to the torso

the torso is kinda loose and just by holding it with minimal force, you can separate the whole upper half of the kit without much issue. As a result, it is a bit wobbly.
I've seen some complains about this but you can tighthen the space with paper around the connector if you want, not to mention this prevents accidents like the MG Sinanju where that same connector is prone to snap due to how tight it fits

another thing to note is that the center of gravity of the kit the when standing up leans backwards, that is why the little landing gears of the binders of the FA backpack are important, as they provide the neccesary support to prevent that
>>
Successful attachment of the new heel peg. A bit longer than the other leg, at a bit of an angle, but it feels solid.
Lesson learned. Make sure not to get too distracted by what you're watching as you build.
>>
>>23553264
I consider it backlog until painted. I usually snap one between projects. Most of these were snapped over a year ago but I'll prioritize snapping one if it has a gimmick that seems cool. I might snap the psycho this weekend because it'll be my biggest kit
>>23553272
I have all the extra parts I need to put the rick dijeh together but I got sidetracked doing the mk 2. I think right now I want to work on scribing more than kitbashing so I'll probably put it off for another time
>>
>>23553311
I posed it before I snapped the O because I wanted to pose them together. Turns out my gundam shelf is too short to put the O in any other pose besides standing. I may have to swap gundam back to the top shelf but then I'd have to downsize my Muv-Luv stuff. It's a losing battle

On the subject of the MG Gundam Mk-V, does anyone know of something that could be used as a basis for its alternate beam rifle? I've only ever seen it on the TR-6 Hazel II but that's 1/144 scale.

/gpg/ really can't go on a day without mentioning dick or cock.

The f91 beam cannons perhaps? The F90 has that almost exact beam rifle design too, I forgot which mission pack it was.

Why do people talk about the 3.0 like it wasn’t just promotion for the statue

i read it as an anti-fss shitpost where he replaces "star" with "nights at freddies" and wonders why people haven't posted about it for a few threads

Five star sloppies is what he should have posted about.

I like the 3.0/rg design. I really like the first few RG designs, where they were still sticking with the design principal of "what would this design look like if it was a real 60 foot robot" that kind of lends them a military aircraft kind of look. More recent rg kits are basically just mini master grades, in that they're more detailed than HGs but don't have the cool "real" feel to them.

Has any anon in the US ordered something from Ali recently? Are they itemizing for the proper tariff vs the flat fee?
Same question but for Delphi Decals as I'm looking for some that aren't in stock in the usual places.

well, it wasnt promoted as the statue in MG form only the HG was. even the moving Gundam wasnt promoted as the moving statue in 1/100, it is referred as RX-78 F00

Zudah feels like a kit that'd get a RE/100 over an MG.

>>23552189
It's just one, but it does come with two sets of arms, one with standard manipulators and the other with pincer arms.
