And those are Akiko at his best now that I think about it. Kuon's introductory two-parter, the wedding, Kuon reviving then killing Hoeru's girlfriend, those are the best Gozyuger episodes written by Akiko aside from Kinjiro's introduction, which is kind of bizarre once you think about it because Akiko promotes herself as a surreal comedy writer and both Kinjiro and Kuon were Matsuura's ideas, but she did create FireCandle though.

This show's writing and lore is all over the place, but I like what they do with the characters enough to keep watching. But I can definitely see how a lot of story decisions here can push people away. Suddenly saying there's this new evil faction just so the Bridal troops don't have to be the true villains because they're too likable is weird.
I also think it's gonna be one of those shows where once the evil brothers (spiritual brother in Rikuo's case) die, they suddenly pretend they're sympathetic figures, and it's sad that they're gone. Even if it would be thematically better if the characters realize they're just beyond help and should remove them from their life permanently.

Yeah that's her, I don't know when did they start doing this since I only started watching this franchise yearly since Zenkaiger, but every episode has a random Sentai character commenting on the episode, in this case the chose the bat lady because she's also two people inside one body and because Rei transformed into MagiRed

To be fair this faction has been alluded since the beginning, the calamity in the first episode where all the mecha sacrifice themselves was to stop these guys and the summer movie had one of their villain generals show up, there's a theory that they're based on the four horsemen of apocalypse with Rei being war, the movie villain being pestilence and the guy from the preview being death.
The thing that has yet to be aknowledge and I'm not sure if it will even get any form of resolution was a throwaway line in the wedding episode where they stated that someone made TegaJune, which is really fucking weird that it has never been brought up since.

Kinji might not have been developed at all (could only remember his dream during the Amnesiac Bouquet 2-parter) but his personality really shines. And this episode is no different. Like he seems to really want Shining Knife and Sweet Cake to get back together then there's that "Aren't you Number One Loving Couple?" question.
