If the VF-1, with all its (over)technology and capabilities, existed in the real world, it would still curbstomp current fighters with just its fighter mode.

There are people who still think the F-22 or even the F-15 wins against the VF-1.
>>
>>23556057
Yeah those same retards think the american military is the strongest just because we give private military contractors billions of dollars
>>
>>23556057
>the plane built on alien tech with an internal nuclear reactor and a payload of hundreds of micro missiles loses to a 30 year old dinosaur and a flying dorito
Yeah no i get where they are coming from
>>
>>23556098
>a flying dorito
The Aurora's involved?
>>
>>23556108
always
>that's stealth, baby
>>
>>23556052
I miss Craig
>>
>>23556041
It basically has unlimited ammo for its head lasers and can stay airborne for more than 500 hours.

Yeah, modern fighters are fucked.
>>
>>23556041
If the VF-1 existed, it would be made obsolete by cheap $30 drones carrying grenades to drop on it or crash into it, like we're seeing in Ukraine. Jets are obsolete now, just like helicopters.
>>
>>23556159
VF-1 armor >>>>> real world drones
>>
>>23556159
You did not take VF armor strength into account. The materials are already tough (enough to crash into infrastructure without damage) plus they get enhanced by energy conversion armor.
>>
>>23556159
A VF-1 will just tank them.
>>
>>23556134
>stay airborne for more than 500 hours
That's insane.
>>
>>23556266
A VF-1 is impossibly tough by modern standards
>>
>>23556134
>head lasers

Didn't it have higher output than the RX-78's beam rifle?
>>
>>23556041
The VF1 can tap dance around a lot of later year mecha shit.
>>
>>23556312
yes but gundam usually handwaves that by claiming their particle beams are like a dozen times more efficient than typical lasers or someshit like that to justify the decades-old tiny numbers they use for their engine and weapon specs
>>
>>23556498
Gundam beam rifles also actually shoot particles with mass which makes them not actually lasers.
>>

Not a macross fan but doesn't this thing lack of BVR missiles? What would it do against an AIM-120 fired from 80km away?
>>
>>23556606
Get hit in the face, shrug it off, close the gap in 30 seconds, then launch 10 micro missiles at the offending plane.
>>
>>23556606
It does have BVR missiles.

It has overtechnology radar and sensors that have greater range than their real life counterparts. It also has much better maneuverability than an F-22.
>>
>>23556606
The AIM-120 can't reach it anyway. The F22 has a service ceiling at 65000ft. The VF-1 can fly around at 300000ft and just laugh at those cute missiles trying to reach them
>>
>>23556606
>What would it do against an AIM-120 fired from 80km away?
The VF-1 can just turn around and fly away. The AMRAAM maximum range is 160km and can't catch up to the VF-1 in time.

>but it can't win a fight by running away
True, it uses its lasers to shoot down the AMRAAM and returns fire with radiation-less alien-tech enhanced nukes.
>>
>>23556606
I think Macross Zero shows VF1 prototypes having some form of incredibly advanced stealth coating since they were able to close in on multiple modern jets without being noticed whatsoever, so it'd make sense to assume that the actual VF1s would just simply not be able to get tracked at that range. That and the supermaneuverability means that even if it were it could probably just turn at 27G and easily evade.
>>
>>23556606
It's a plane. It has wings. You can mount any kind of ordinance to it that you want.

The options include
>>
>>23556664
Not stealth coating. It is first generation active stealth.
>>
>>23556606
Feels like BVR is one of those things people take as a given to never appear in anything. Which is fair enough, most things don't include them because shooting something you can't see has to be one of the least visually interesting fantastic scenarios around.

There's a reason why 90% of popular scifi has a stated or unstated "thingie that means you have to look them in the eyes when you fight" element, and the other 10% are usually books and don't need the same visual appeal.
>>
>>23556606
Did you watch the original and/or DYRL? It uses BVR missiles.
>>
>>23556705
>most things don't include them because shooting something you can't see has to be one of the least visually interesting fantastic scenarios around.

I don't think so, you just have to listen real pilots shitting bricks while trying to avoid missiles to see how tense these situations are, add the pilot watching at the screen trying to follow where the missile is and you get a cool BVR scene. Still I would rarely use it since it can become boring.
>>
>>23556719
Pointless in Macross now since the VFs are so insanely fast that they resort to close range combat.
>>
>local man discovers Macross Zero for the first time, tells others things they already knew for like the past decade+
>>
>>23556788
They also regularly use their head mounted laser guns to shoot down missiles. The original series even had them using their gun pods (as silly as that looked).

>The original series even had them using their gun pods (as silly as that looked)
Isamu does that in Plus as well. Not sure about Frontier.
>>
>>23557273
Delta barely even used the Battroid form. I like jets and the designs are fin but goddamn
>>
>>23557552
Nor missiles. They show up a handful of times and always felt like an afterthought.
>>
>>23557552
>>23557606
Yeah, that's why I didn't bother to mention Delta. I had a look around and decided to make some webms.

>If the VF-1, with all its (over)technology and capabilities, existed in the real world, it would still curbstomp current fighters with just its fighter mode.

Well yeah. It was a fantasy jet made with alien technology.

Insanely fast even compared to modern jets
Can fly at higher altitudes and in space.
Can take far sharper turns somehow without hurting, killing or causing the pilot to pass out.
Doesn't need to refuel as much.
Has almost infinite ammo in the head laser (which is a mini aircraft ball turret in jet mode)
Can mount all sorts of missiles on the wings.

If you allow it to gerwalk, it can also easily kick the shit out of the A-10 and Harrier at their own games as well. You wouldn't even need to deploy the arms, Just let it lower the legs to fly slow or hover.
>>
>>23557715
Kicking is a major benefit of the gerwalk form.
>>
>>23556300
Assuming the pilot can also stay for that long.
>>
>>23558358
Can it run doom on the hud?
>>
>>23558358
It's largely used for long distance fold travel. I think there's some kind of hibernation function for that too.
