I do wonder if Hasegawa is planning on going into the rise of CONSENT, if he is going to make up his own new future

So far, nothing has contradicted G-Saviour in official Sunrise works, and this is the first time anyone has even approached it in the timeline, even if the Crossbone series is only dubiously canon.
>>
>>23564935
Crossbone is as canon as anything else
>>
>>23563331
Gaia Gear designs are things you look at in painted images. These designs are too complex for traditional 2D animation and they would be really obscured in manga panels.
>>
>>23564937
Only filmed works are canon or "official", this was established a long time ago and nobody from Sunrise has changed it afaik.
>>
>>23564952
no, it's been changed over a decade ago at this point but westerners keep repeating it because they're incapable of processing new and changed info
>>
>>23564954
Source?
>>
>>23564956
in the first place "canon" is just not a concept here, don't use that stupid word again
what we do have are terms like
"official" (公式)
"official history" (正史)
"semi-official" (準オフィシャル) [used by Inoue]
"semi-official" (セミ・オフィシャル) [used in MS Encyclopedia]
"semi-official history" (準正史) [per Minakawa]
then we have comments on the whole thing such as Great Mechanics 2005
>So, what is the basis for saying what's "official" in the Gundam world? This magazine asked the well-known Koichi Inoue, head of Sunrise's planning and development office.
>"The first thing we have to say is that, where the Gundam world is concerned, the true official--that is, what could be called Sunrise official setting--should, strictly speaking, be thought of as limited to the films and to things that appear in the filmed works.
>However, even if they're not like the above, Sunrise supervises and gives publishing permission to books and games that deal with the Gundam world. Thus, in a broader sense, the original setting that appears in these could be called semi-official.
or Gundam Encyclopedia
>The addition of "*" to the timeline is a method that began with "GUNDAM OFFICIALS U.C.0079~0083" (compiled by Yuka Minakawa, published 2001 by Kodansha). The designation "official" invites misunderstandings, but don't think that material it did not include is unofficial. (After its publication, the Gundam world has continued to expand.) The idea is not to divide things into official and unofficial, and books, games, and models approved by Sunrise are all assumed to be official. However, there is an order of priority to the information, and one could say that it ranges from white to very close to black. (The original anime being white, and from there it enters the "gray zone.")

TL;DR it's not hard and fast rules or unanimous agreement, don't force western fiction issues onto it
>>
>>23564964
lmao, you just posted exactly what I already said. How are you going to post these quotes and then pretend like they don't say what they do?
>"The first thing we have to say is that, where the Gundam world is concerned, the true official--that is, what could be called Sunrise official setting--should, strictly speaking, be thought of as limited to the films and to things that appear in the filmed work

First order is films, they override anything else and take precedence. Your personal vendetta against the word "canon" has nothing to do with it.

Gaia Gear is 20 years before G-Saviour. 20 years is plenty of time for the dissolution of the Federation and the establishment of Consent.

Not only that, but Gaia Gear can't be canon or official in any way, since Sunrise does not own it and Tomino doesn't want it to ever be brought up again, much less connected officially to Gundam. The rights to individual mecha designs could be a different type of licensing, but Gaia Gear as a story cannot be integrated unless Sunrise buys out the rights from Tomino and the magazine.

F100 would be, given its name, some form of tribute to the Hyaku Shiki incorporating next-generation Formula tech and possibly early versions of Saviour project tech, given Crossbone's newest installments are getting close to the formation of CONSENT chronologically
>>
>>23564899
Some databooks suggested SNRI basically split and became BESPA and the R&D division of the League Militaire. Actually, IIRC one of the old guys in Victory and Usso's mom were the SNRI engineers in charge of the F99 project in one of the Crossbone spinoffs. Plus there's the Cluster Gundam Kai's connection to the GunEZ and Victory.
>>
>>23565149
Yes, it does. It's literally the exact same context that Star Wars defined canon before Disney bought it. There were the Lucas directed films as the strictly official canon, the spinoffs that Lucasfilms was involved in coproducing, and then the licensed third party stuff like the Expanded Universe

I'm serious. There isn't a matter of "it's too hard", most obstacles can be overcome with will + money. The question is more whether someone has the will to make a manga of Gaia Gear. I don't think an anime would happen without significant changes to the story since the very first chapters have a huge ass anti-white rant and there's the masturbation chapter but maybe they'd do an adaptation of the radio drama version.

Here's something fun that Ogata said seven years ago in an interview:
Of course, everything is a subject to change, but recent F90 project and Crossbone are a part of UC NexT 0100, meaning that at least at some point those were considered by current Gundam executive producer to be either "canon" or to be adapted into "canon" in the future.

there are still plenty of characters in 0079 that are still alive during the time of Unicorn to Hathaway era.
it only get's a bit ridiculous by F91 and truly absurd by Victory when even the children during 0079 would be elderly bed-ridden fucks.
and don't get me started on G-Saviour.

i would say it does get pretty dark once you realize that human society never got better past CCA, and in fact got worse and worse, with never-ending wars sprouting everywhere and technology in decline and Earth being a backwater planet.

It's shocking how good looking the original RX78 looked like. It's so simple, clean, and easy on the eyes, and yet it's so iconic and unique.

All these other Gundams and mechs have so much fucking doodads/details/panels out the wazoo, no to mention that so many of them have a shit ton of spikes or just plain ol' metal blocks.
They all remind me of Michael Bay Transformers where it's a visual amorphous clusterfuck and there's no simple unique eyegrabbing thing to it.

Because the Jovian Sphere has a solid mostly-stanle government that cares about the people. It also has a gun to the rest of the solar system where they can stop the energy fleets so no one tries to invade them.
Their main issue is their crown princess was lost in cold sleep for a decade and is now eloping with a guy going on a Paul Atredies golden path journey.

The G-Self Perfect Pack has that weird particle propulsion that comes off of the clear parts of its cannon-wings. And the Kabakali's minovsky flight creates some sort of propulsion in atmosphere that lets it fly around. Like halfway between a minovsky craft and the minovsky drive. Considering they're both using ancient UC technology, i wouldn't be surprised if they're minovsky drive derivatives because they're both particle-based propulsion. The Perfect Pack's is probably close to the minovsky drive since it's the main propulsion on earth and space.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that Phantom got eventually mass-produced by not-Titans in Earth Sphere and Minovsky Drive used was improved significantly compared to knock-off from the original Phantom (though it is still not quite as good as Victory 2's).

Gundam will never move on from the early UC.
Why you think they had to desperately resort to an alternate universe UC like Origin or Thunderbolt?
>>
>>23568621
Define move on. Because the thing that the Gundam would never move on from isn't even early UC, it is OYW specifically.
Though if you mean that Gundam will never explore UC 0110 and beyond it is a midwit take, especially with Hathaway movies being a thing now.
>Why you think they had to desperately resort to an alternate universe UC like Origin or Thunderbolt?
Because they couldn't reasonably fit it in the regular UC. You'd have a better point if you pointed to GQuuuuuuX, but that opens a different can of worms.
>>
>>23568496
They should've just made the G-Cannon a 2-star 700 cost. 750 cost is full of nothing but Crossbones and Neo Gundams I'm one of them
>>
>>23568752
that's too much, G-Cannon would be great for 650 but a cost above Den'an Zon and even with F90 is swinging too far in the opposite direction. Having it at 600 sucks mostly because it reaffirms the misconception it's Heavygun's GM Cannon equivalent
>>
>>23568756
Isn't the F90 700? And the Den'an Zon should be 700 too. 750 needs more (good) content.
>>
>>23568762
yeah F90 is 700, you suggested G-Cannon at 700
And I agree, Den'an Zon should have been the first 700 grunt. It's really not inferior to F90.
>>
>>23568767
Misread that. I thought you were trying to say it was above the Den'an Zon and even the F90. The G-Cannon isn't really that far below the F90 in specs, if at all. It trades some thrust-mass ratio for a bigger reactor, but if it detached its guns it'd probably be a solid dogfighter. And they both lack a beam shield. It's really only the Heavygun that's really subpar.
>>

>>
>>23568783
No, and most people don't even remember the Gundam too well. The F91 is only dubbed the "Gundam" in the movie because one girl is like "hey wasn't there a famous mobile suit a long time ago called the Gundam?" Maybe engineers called it the F91 Gundam during internal development, but the rank and file and civilians don't really know about Gundams so they just read the numbers on the shoulders and were like "so this MS is called the F91" until they dubbed it a Gundam based on likeness.
>>
>>23568787
are you stupid?
>>
>>23568789
Soldiers do remember a bit more. BESPA had several pilots that were angry the LM was using the Victory as it had a Gundam head. It was something along the lines of "how dare you claim to have a Gundam when we have the righteous cause".
So it was a bit mythologized that the "good" side has a Gundam, but that leaves open the question why Zanscare didn't make such a MS head (in universe).

His plan makes sense but

three nations to balance eachother out.
1. Jupiter sphere
2. Earth sphere colonies
3. A new earth Federation?

Why do that? How is this new Feddie government supposed to be on equal terms with the colonies and Jupiter if it's entirely earth-based with barely any spaceborne territory?
>>
>>23573321
Remember the Cyclops would be at the center of it and they're an actual functional military unlike small scale garrisons and militias of the colonies. Even if all these come together into a formal alliance Federation will still have certain advantages over them. Enough to be its own player but not capable of overwhelming the Colonies, let alone with Jupiter as a distinct faction.

With the character art I agree, I'm not a fan of how he tends to draw the features of his characters and give everyone a wide muppet mouth. I've noticed when his characters get put in games like G Gen and SRW they usually redraw and fix that. As for the mobile suits I think he was doing fine up until around Steel 7, then he went off the deep end. A lot of the mobile suits in the sequel mangas look more like they belong to some goofy country in G Gundam.

I am trying to get into late UC manga but I'm a braindead retard, what's the reading order for the F90, Crossbone etc. mangas? I found several of each
>>
>>23587553
The F90 manga are collection of stories that don't really intersect with Crossbone. They explore the ~15 years before the F91 movie. The 1990 manga is a very short read to get you introduced, but the 2019 and 2024 manga are quite a bit longer and flesh out a lot more story details. IIRC the 1990 and 2019 manga are finished and translated, while the 2024 manga is ongoing.

Reading order:
Gundam F90 (1990)
F90FF (2019)
F90 Cluster (2024)

Crossbone Gundam is another collection of stories and they take place in the period after F91 and beyond. There isn't much overlap with F90 since Crossbone takes place like another 15+ years afterward. I think for the entire series translations exist up until Ghost or Dust, I don't remember.

Reading order:
Crossbone Gundam (1994)
Crossbone Gundam: Skull Heart (2003)
Crossbone Gundam: Steel Seven (2006)
Crossbone Gundam: Ghost (2011)
Crossbone Gundam: Dust (2016)
Crossbone Gundam: X-11 (2021)
Crossbone Gundam: Love & Piece (2022)
Crossbone Gundam: Seeräuber
>>
>>23587553
Okay, with Crossbone you can go with >>23587565 but with F90 stuff everything is more complicated.
For starters, there are two manga based on original F90 story. One was targeting older audience and the other is for kids. Both got some interesting stuff going on, but also different names for MC's friends. I recommend checking out both as they are short.
Then there was Formula Report 0122 video game. It was adapted into a short booklet manga and its story was fleshed out in F90 Fastest Formula's flash forward sections. You can just go with FF retelling, but I found that it hits harder when you are at least somewhat aware of what is happening in the original story.
Then there is Silhouette Formula and it's side story chapter Ghost of Formula. They introduce a bunch of characters that are important in FF and Cluster. Also they are short.
Then technically there is Climax UC story, but it is untranslated and relatively unimportant. Skip it or just read up a summary somewhere if you want.
After that there are Fastest Formula and Cluster. Former is technically a prequel to F90 and latter is technically a sequel to F90, but they pull the story from everything related to the time period and locations.

The pilot is going off about how it's the noble's duty to defend the city and yadda yadda, as I understand it's a PR move for Buch to back up the Feddie forces there and also help tie up a loose end in the form of Zeon remnants. Kudos from SNRI and MHA are good to have.

There is sort of an element of that last bit in G-Reco

The first F90 was not targeted towards kids you dumb pleb. Just because it was drawn by a loli artist doesn't mean it was meant for children. sD club has shady manga in it so tell me how's it for kids again?

Skipping Climax UC is dumb because it's deeply tied to F90FF but you obviously don't know that since you skipped it

You got me. Both manga are for kids. FF and Cluster too.
The distinction I was making is that F90 from SD Club was dumbed down. And personally, I think that in certain moments it made it better, like making Def more hot-blooded.
>Skipping Climax UC is dumb because it's deeply tied to F90FF but you obviously don't know that since you skipped it
I mean, yes, attack on Frontier I and a few more Kamuna cameos were depicted in FF, and yes, it was an important event in Climax UC, but, sorry, I consider it a shallow connection. From F90 it got Job as John SNRI and Bosch. From Formula Wars you got Charles backstory, basically. From Silhouette Formula you got Galemson. All of those are way more intertwined with FF, let's not kid ourselves.

Though to be fair, speaking of Climax UC connection, Cluster already does more with it, as Buch's MS in >>23588357 >>23588360 is piloted by Shun Tachibana, and in a previous chapter he was trying to recruit Ivalu, only getting interrupted by Oldsmobile attack.

Kinda hard for it to be dumbed down when it started serialization BEFORE the other version started. Maybe read the five chapter one first before painting yourself as a dumbass, or do you want a bigger brush?
>>
>>23591357
Both authors were given the same outline to work with. SD Club version is the "dumbed down" one in comparison with the "canon" version.

The Shanel was never deployed in combat so its cover would be blown right away

That's Karyovin, but it's not what I referred to.
Look closer at F90 (it's in front of Jurick).

>>23591349
Jurick jumpscare, why does it keep popping up nowadays? GBO2 has it, it kicked ass in Moon of all things, now here?

No they weren't. Read Yamaguchi's interview

SNRI really did install v-fin and made a symmetrical shoulder on it just to show "their" unit 5 to the public, huh.
Also there is Dessa Type in the back.

Neat. So he did both SNRI and Buch grunts.
I wonder if we'll see more of his designs in the manga.
