Started watching IBO, and realized I quite like the idea of giant robots beating the piss out of one another with melee weapons that aren't laser swords, the equivalent of super powered fists, or getting their cockpit blown smoov off with a cannon. Can you guys tell me what your favorite, primitive leaning but more original or less used melee weapon in a Mecha show is? Swords are neat and all, but damn are they everywhere.

IBO's logic was always retarded

I think my ideal ratio would be one instant kill beam shot per mech per engagement that everyone has because it's the best weapon, but if you miss oh well time to use your kinetic based weapon of choice.

another factor of them not using beam weaponry is that it's banned

I always thought it was a bit odd that Shin Getter Robo is basically the only giant robot to ever use a big two handed battleax. I can't even think of any villain robots that used one. Definitely a case of a robot matching its wild berserker pilots well

Anon, your logic is what's retarded.

Why would they keep using beam weaponry when it no longer works on anyone worth shooting.
>>
>>23571769
Beam weaponry is retarded to begin with. It'll never be more efficient to fire balls of plasma over long distances than it is to simply fling a big rock faster. Like UC beams aren't relativistic. The FAZZ's cannon takes a few seconds to travel a few tens of thousands of kilometers. I'm pretty sure even Dainsleifs that we see firing from space onto the Tekkadan base are at least as fast, but delivering magnitudes more energy than any beam cannon in gundam because they're giant like 30m rods of solid metal. For some reason UC never figured out how railguns work except thunderbolt

Loved the Psycho Zakus in Thunderbolt in general, but I especially liked the axe Daryl used on several occasions. I also really like the lance in Armored Core 6. It's not always the best in terms of gameplay but I love how it expands as you charge.

>Like UC beams aren't relativistic.
>The FAZZ's cannon takes a few seconds to travel a few tens of thousands of kilometers.

I'm assuming your referring to the part of Sentinel where the two FAZZs exchange shots with the four Xeku-Eins. In that part they say "Crypt's FAZZ aimed and fired its Hyper Mega Cannon. A clear blue light gushed from the muzzle, becoming a solid beam of light traveling at an incredible speed, getting absorbed into the pitch-black darkness. One second, two seconds, three seconds... 'Damn it, I missed!' " and "However, even in this era, combat on the order of tens of thousands of kilometers was still not assured.". From these 2 passages we can assume 2 things, one that the travel time for the FAZZ's cannon shots between the it and the Xeku-Eins take at least 3 seconds and two the FAZZ and Xeku-Eins are atleast 10,000 km apart.

if we go on the low end of things and assume that the two groups of suits are only 10,000 km apart (remember the battle is described as happening tens of thousands of kilometers apart not just ten thousand km) and that beams take 3 seconds to cross that distance we are looking at 3,333,333.333 m/s for the minimum speed for the FAZZ's beam cannon shots. If we compare that speed to the speed of light (299,792,458 m/s) we find that the FAZZ's beam cannon shots travel at around 1% light speed.

TLDR, beam weapon speeds are stupid fast and not all slow like you were implying

My math:

Finding FAZZ beam cannon speed
10,000 km / 3 sec = 3,333.333333 km/s
convert to m/s by multiplying by 1,000
3,333.333333 km/s * 1000 = 3,333,333.333 m/s
converting to % lightspeed
( 3,333,333.333 m/s / 299,792,458 m/s (the speed of light) ) * 100 = 1.111880317 % lightspeed

BTW this was meant as more of rebuttal to the assertion that "Beam weaponry is retarded to begin with. It'll never be more efficient to fire balls of plasma over long distances than it is to simply fling a big rock faster". My point being that as described in >>23572177, UC beams take "a few seconds to travel a few tens of thousands of kilometers", which describes beams traveling at a minimum of 1% lightspeed and throwing rocks faster than that is by no means more efficient nor practical.

The Gundam Hammer especially in Turn A. And Turn A also had those big drill stick things. And vibrating FLAT limbs.

Panzer World Galient's OVA was really fun. Or any fantasy series where they just have swords like Dunbine really. But that OVA is just two robots beating the shit out of each other and if ends with an insane magic sword finisher thing.

Or just FISTS. Like Giant Robo and Tetsujin punching the shit out of things.
