Reading my brother's Robotech novels

Watching the VHS copies of Giant Robo he copied after renting them from the local comic shop (we had two VHS players we did this a lot)
>>
Watching Thomas the Tank Engine.
>>
I was 12 and i somehow stumbled upon Super robot wars L for my ds. I had it cracked so i downloaded it and without knowing even a hint of japanese I played through it start to finish. By the end i had all the menus memorized and found out everything through trial and error.

easier mode : be a baby frog from the early 80

Voltron probably, or g1 transformers, but only the toys.
>>
It was either Korean mecha stuff or Korean dub of anime back in 96 or 97. I don't remember. It could have been Evangelion back then, but I do remember a show with mechas or aliens coming out of a portal. I dunno if it was a ripoff Korean cartoon or dubbed anime in Korean.
>>
Power Rangers in the early 90s was my first memory. But my first animes were Wing, Escaflowne and for some reason Galaxy Express 999. Parodies in Dexter's Lab and Powerpuff girls and ReBoot might have beennarlund the same time as poser rangers too.

Something generation one transformers. Also, Tachikomas
>>
The roots were probably set by Power Rangers, but a game called G-Nome is what really cemented it.

Star Blazers on tv in the 70s. Mazinger was also on was on but I watched Star Blazers first. Prior to that Kaiju films were on the 8 0'clock movie and Creature Double Feature Saturdays.

Earliest mecha memory was Daileon from Juspion. Also, Brazilian here.

That said, the first time I actually cared for mecha and thought they were really cool was when I watched the episodes of Flashman where the Flashking is destroyed and they need to go after the Great Titan.

It was literally a standing brick, but just all the build up tot eh old mecha being too weak and then needing something stronger really sold the entire importance of them to me for the first time.

There was a localization of Spectreman that I watched faithfully for most of the year before my family moved and the new local stations didn't have it. That was 1982, I think.
I am pretty sure I saw Battle of the Planets the year after we moved, and that would technically have been my first mecha related anime.
First mecha toy was an AT-AT. I am not even certain I had seen the movie yet, but I remember seeing the toy commercial and having an intense NEED to own one.

Similar for me too, my best friend in the whole world growing up from when I was like 5 years old introduced me to mecha by watching Robotech with me. When we were older he was big into the novels. I think I might actually still have one of the ones he lent me...

>Earliest mecha memory.
Either playing Megaman 2 on my dad's PC via NESticle or watching Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers on TV, both at age 4. Also, one of the first toys I ever got was one of those 2x1, pre-show Beast Wars sets -- the one with a bat (Optimus Primal) and a crocodile (Megatron).
