Watching Thomas the Tank Engine.
I was 12 and i somehow stumbled upon Super robot wars L for my ds. I had it cracked so i downloaded it and without knowing even a hint of japanese I played through it start to finish. By the end i had all the menus memorized and found out everything through trial and error.
I got taken out of my kindergarten class for stand up and shouting GIGANTOOOOOOOOOOOOR!!
Growing up in Singapore meant that I had English dubs of Kamen Rider, watched from Ryuki all the way till Kabuto until I found out that subs on the internet were 2 seasons ahead.

It was either Korean mecha stuff or Korean dub of anime back in 96 or 97. I don't remember. It could have been Evangelion back then, but I do remember a show with mechas or aliens coming out of a portal. I dunno if it was a ripoff Korean cartoon or dubbed anime in Korean.
Power Rangers in the early 90s was my first memory. But my first animes were Wing, Escaflowne and for some reason Galaxy Express 999. Parodies in Dexter's Lab and Powerpuff girls and ReBoot might have beennarlund the same time as poser rangers too.

The roots were probably set by Power Rangers, but a game called G-Nome is what really cemented it.

That was 1982, I think.I am pretty sure I saw Battle of the Planets the year after we moved, and that would technically have been my first mecha related anime.First mecha toy was an AT-AT. I am not even certain I had seen the movie yet, but I remember seeing the toy commercial and having an intense NEED to own one.
