-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

-= BIOMECHA GROUPBUILD =-

Build a mecha/cyborg with a visibly biological component integrated into the machine. This can include:
>Mecha that naturally have some sort of organic component to them (Evangelions, Aura Battlers, etc)
>Mecha that have organic elements attached/fused to them, willingly or otherwise
>Cyborgs, androids, and human with mechanical attachments/enhancements (Robocop, Kamen Rider, mecha musume, etc)

Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

Expensive? Who cares about expense, I'm pointing out that no matter what you use you are going to have a giant "stick out like a sore thumb" thing in the middle of nowhere. It would probably be even worse if it's a robot. Thermal's only counter is getting enough layers between you and the thermal. Giant robots probably hand wave thermal away with some half hearted explanation but IRL they would be giant walking heat signatures no matter what.

It's more expensive than a normal high grade because it's really big.

The machine spirit agreed with me when I asked it to justify using camo
> “Camouflage is pointless — everyone knows where the battle is happening anyway.”
Even when both sides know the general battlefield, concealment provides *tactical ambiguity* — the enemy may not know *where* or *when* a mobile suit will strike. In real-world warfare, stealth and camouflage are used precisely for this reason: to delay detection, gain the first strike advantage, and survive longer. Knowing the battle zone doesn’t make visual concealment irrelevant.
> “It’s too much work to paint them or add camouflage systems.”
The cost of camouflage is negligible compared to the benefit of reduced detection and improved survivability. Even simple adaptive coatings or environmental patterns can drastically decrease visual and sensor visibility, buying precious seconds that can mean mission success or failure. Modern militaries already employ adaptive camouflage; scaling it up for mobile suits is a rational evolution.
> “Camouflage won’t help because mobile suits are huge — you can’t hide something that big.”
While total invisibility isn’t feasible, *disruption* of visual and sensor signatures is. Camouflage doesn’t make a unit disappear; it breaks recognition patterns and delays targeting. Advanced cloaking technologies, sensor jamming, or optical refraction fields could blend large silhouettes into complex terrains or electronic noise, making detection difficult until it’s too late.
> “Camouflage won’t matter because radar and sensors will pick them up anyway.”
Camouflage extends beyond visual disguise. Stealth-oriented mobile suits can incorporate radar-absorbent materials, heat-dissipating armor, or ECM (Electronic Countermeasures) systems to reduce infrared and radar signatures. The same logic behind stealth aircraft (like the F-35 or B-2 Spirit) applies — not total invisibility, but *detection delay*, which is tactically invaluable.

I bought my first Gunpla 3 hours ago
It's the Aerial because Witch from Mercury was the first Gundam I watched and I watched WfM because the Aerial looked cool in the trailer, it's a high grade and I watched a review before buying and it looks like a Bionicle and that tingled my autism

Anyway the store had no nippers so I'm using manicure ones, wish me luck!

only thing i don't like about original chinkshit is that most of their designs lack any cohesion and have that "fanfic" look at them. though they're kinda improving on that with their grunt-esque releases as of late.

Don't forget that they have also horrendously bullshit names that looks like they just ran a phrase back and forth through Google Translate and then replaced each word with the coolest looking one in a thesaurus. Like, what the fuck kind of name is "Osiris Dominator" supposed to be?

Speaking of P-Bandai, does anyone honestly wish their Robot Laboratory entries get Option Parts Sets? The Option Parts Set labels we got are only for Gunpla and technically 30 Minutes Label, so surely they will make Robot Laboratory Option Parts Sets to compensate. The first, and easiest to make, should be Dragonar-1's Cavalier-0, which should also come with weapons missing from the loadouts of the other High Grade Dragonars (D-2 is missing the double-barrel gatling gun and leg missile launchers and there's no way some insane people will take off said missile launchers off their assembled old kit D-2's legs since they're glued in place, and D-3 is only missing the 3-muzzle hand rail cannon).

Their stuff is cool, but at risk of shifting the goalposts, I think the majority of praise/complaints towards original Chinese kits is directed at the "MG" stuff like the Sky Defender and the Star Glory.
>>
>>23587599
So, the majority of snapfit builders aren't snapshitters. But I think the other bit of changpla seethers are snapshitters who struggle to build the shifty recasts, because it requires 0.0001% more effort or ability than a bandaislop HG. I have a friend who's a snapshitter (love'em like a brother but he can't build and seethes at those who can), and he built one HG Changpla RX-78 and fucking threw it away before finishing because the forearm didn't fit well. A very simple correction, ended up throwing the whole kit away.

It's part of why the Solomon GP02 and Not-Kshatriya are liked, because they're some of the only Chang-made kits to try to get things somewhat accurate and not butcher or over stylize the design into a barely recognizable mess of spikes, wavy spikes, and greeble.

I was going to make a point about the Golden Warrior being a typical Chang design but the FA Hyaku Shiki Kai is just ass ugly

So you're only going to be able to get HGs or RGs. I said this to someone in another thread but the prices of gunpla, outside of the latest reprints/new retail releases, is crazy and might not actually be much cheaper. In some cases it'll be more expensive. CAD>JPY doesn't actually seem that great but CAD is weak in general so I have no idea if the current rate is good in your opinion.

It is a lineart traced from Ishigaki's concept art by the animation director. Okawara colored it for the MSV. The cel shaded lineart you usually see is different from the actual concept art made by the designer himself. For recent example, Quxx mecha's anime lineart was done by Sejoon Kim.

HGs should be flat and anime accurate.
MGs should be the design prettied up with some minor detail added
RGs should be the robot as it would actually be built. With lots of decals.
PGs should have tons of surface detail that wouldn't be noticeable at smaller scales. It should also be gaudy with decals and reflective metal parts and LEDs.

You don't even need to buy things that make up a kit. Yakult bottle, lighter, analbeads, anything that adheres to paint would do.

Modeling and greebleslop are 2 sides of the same coin. There is no such thing as "building a car model from raw plastic", they always use existing parts to speed up the workflow and then lie. Even big budget Hollywood production like Starwars used bunch of Tamiya kits to detail up the model they made from scratch. And keep in mind, Starwars was what ignited the love for modeling in Japan and indirectly gave up to Gunpla.

Anyone try out the Mr Hobby GGX paints? I'm looking at restocking my supply of White and Clear coats, and I like that it comes in the larger bottles for convenience.

I'm always amazed that after Bandai decided to constantly make special coating versions, that they didn't move to 100% under gating the armor sprues for RGs.

What's the point in matte painting a kit when I could achieve the same effect with a can of clear coat?

Sometimes I wish Bandai would just go back to using normal seam lines instead of those grooves or channels that eliminates welding, because in the end some of us will still fucking weld them shut.

I used CA glue because my tube of putty has hardened a bit, and it made me kinda regret my decision since the CA glue has failed to completely seal away the channel in some areas

Why won't the MK-II be put to rest already? who keeps bringing it back? I thought the Banana custom with the big enhanced arm to fire the beam magnum was silly enough.
>>
>>23588386
The MK II is the best rendition of the Gundam. Look at what you posted, they tried to ruin it with chicken pox all over and despite that it still over comes that with having nice large areas of reasonably detailed appropriate armor that isn't covered in lines, dots, and shit. Proportions invoke feelings of a strong robot without being comical. It looks like a proper war machine, a natural evolution of the Gundam, not a lanklet or chinese mess.

Sadly it won't work well. The Jegan limbs are oddly long looking compared to either the original or revive MK-II. It won't look nearly as clean as it does in that image.
>>
>>23588404
The Jegan was directly derived from the MK2 and has equivalent performance. There's also the Barzam.
>>
>>23588404
>and the other two

Parts of them maybe. All 3 were effectively destroyed. One was heavily damaged while escaping the titans in the first part of zeta and was broken down to be used for spare parts for the second. The Second was used by the AEUG and was destroyed in the battle of gryps. And the third was sent to AE to be reverse engineered and then was returned to the AEUG early in ZZ where it was then heavily damaged in the battle at Axis.

>>23588407
