Ultraman Omega is ___
Which Ultraman show would you say has the best fight choreography?
all the talk about sentai made me interested in watching Cosmos.are there any decent rips with subs? the ones on youtube are 360p with crabstick subs
>>23614453bad
>>23614453Made to please Thai lawyers
>>23614453Still boring but so far the second half has been marginally better than the first chiefly because the new woman takes screen time away from Kosei.
is Leo just that strong? He fought off the Brothers including Zoffy pretty well
>>23615028He's trained on the 400,000,000,000 year old principles of Space Kung Fu.
>>23615035Also there's something extremely off about these suits, they look really gross?
>>23615041also also such a weird fucking line coming out of Ultramanwhat a strange section of television
>>23615041>>23615046Probably because of the amount of dirt, the whole aesthetic of leo's filming and probably these suits are just so old at this point. And yeah, weird to hear this from Ultraman. I think there's something to do with the writers behind this 2 parter? Can't recall what exactly.
Please answer my question. I just wanna watch Cosmos...
>>23615041>>23615046Leo hard a hard life...
do we have any lore on ultraman king? i think one of the movies gives a bit right? i'm watching Leo right now and this character is a big what the fuck for me
>>23615203He is a mysterious space man who existed before M78's star blew up, and lives on Planet King.
>>23615302do we know how old he is?
>>23615307300000 y/o. He was already 10000 years older than Ultraman when he came to Earth even before the M78 people turned into Ultras.https://x.com/TsuburayaGlobal/status/1344674682117750784
>>23615312so he's younger than NoaI really wonder how he fits into the grand scheme of things but it sounds like hes still a mystery for the most part even all these years later.
https://t.bilibili.com/1133492270866104322>UMC is using "salted egg superman" 咸蛋超人 for one of their website bannersWhat does this mean? Are they backing down or did their one intern fuck up?
>>23614453very chinese.
>>23615407What does "salted egg" mean in this contextI'm not up to speed on Chang slang
>>23615631Literally salted duck eggs. It's the old unofficial Chinese name for Ultraman because their eyes look like that. It's obviously somewhat derogatory so the Tsupro agent never bothered to trademark it and whether you can even trademark it is debatable (too generic). This makes the name supersafe for KOs to use, which is weird when UMC has been bold about their use of the actual trademarked 奥特曼 name.
>>23615407Maybe Bandai phoned them up and said they were hurting toy sales in that region
>Watching Ace for the first time>Pissed they write off Minami after criminally underutilizing her beforehand>Introduce annoying kid character who is a farcry from Jiro in ReturnHowever>Average episode generally becomes better>Absence of Yapool means the Choju become more interesting since they can have varied origins and have to take center stage>Human drama becomes markedly improvedThis show is really giving me mixed feelings.
It's the cow from omega
>>23615319Honestly I'd prefer if they kept it that way. Knowing next to nothing about who/what King actually is adds more mystique and gravitas whenever he does appear.
>>23615631The shape of their eyes
Who the fuck is Runboldt??
So they're bringing back Koseidon
https://twitter.com/tmark365/status/1987853006201881078Tsuburaya trademark.
>>23616415I don't speak jap
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAgWCpGbp6U
>>23616190>>23616415They're just doing merch runs for the Dinosaur stuff they did (BornFree, Koseidon, Aizenborg). Though they might be testing the waters, we know they came up with a reboot concept for Toki a few years ago.
>>23616415>lived long enough to see BornFree and maybe Koseidon revivalMy cousin would be pleased. Sure give him something to look forward to after his prison term
Damn, just saw the most recent episode. This show needed the science team set-up from the start, it's so much better this way.
>>23616795Recent episode gave me strong Cosmos vibes with the Kaiju parasite thing. It's always a cool concept, honestly it would have worked with or without the new setupI think the defense team shit doesn't really matter so much as having the new scientist character taking focus away from Kosei and his retarded overacting
>>23616795The second half of the show so far really feels like what it should have been from the start. Like the dynamic of it just being Sorato and Kosei with Ayumu on the side feels like it should have ended three, maybe four episodes in tops. Omega as a whole has been this weird meandering nothing of a series and I think it's too late to really save it at this point.
Been watching sub episodes of Taro in Tsuburaya's channel: I've been hearing of stock modern sounds mixed in or replace the show's usual sfx, mainly explosions, in some scenes. Why is that?
There isn't nearly enough art of Ultraman Belial to jack off toAnd no I don't mean female gijinkas.I mean of actual Ultraman Belial
>>23614453>is ___not an ultraman
>>23616415Anyone knew if there's any decent fansub? No ARR please
>>23616415Wasn't there a third show after Koseidon and Bornfree?
>>23617520>IzenborgOh nvm that one's probably renewed on time due with arab money.
will he ever reappear
>>23618643It did, episode 1.
>>23618643Maybe, if Genesis tries to invade Earth again.
>>23618643wasn't it suppose to appear on Earth at some point?
someone in the Gozyuger episode thread mentioned 80, is it good despite the retool?
>>23620243Best Showa OP and it does have a lot of heart. But you NEED to watch the Mebius 80 episode after it to get the best experience.
>>23620243yeah, its a good show overall
>>23610206So...Will they focus only on the turtle aspect or will it have some snake elements?
https://hobby.dengeki.com/event/2806679/
>>23620468Wonder why don't they just make a new suit/form proper for this one, like color the silver parts gold.
Any other of you /m/en going to the live show in New Jersey later this month?
>>23616700I'd love if the dino trilogy got subbed and released over herepic unrelated
So with super sentai about to die forever, how long do you think ultraman has?
>>23621711Super Sentai is dying because Power Rangers has kneecapped its ability to expand into other territories, particularly the West. While Ultraman had that problem for decades, they're finally free of that restriction and got a head start on their western push. And I definitely think Ultraman will benefit more from Godzilla's western marketing and increasing popularity. Kaiju are all the rage and Tsuburaya is in a good position to gain a new audience. Kamen Rider isn't even doing dubs yet, so they're ahead of the curve.
>>23621711We're okay I think. SS was bleeding money and doesn't have the chinese buff Ultra does.
whats your favorite ultraman color
>>23622024silver
is Tiga really as good as everyone says
>>23621963I thought china was losing interest in Ultraman
>>23622033yes
>>23622033Did you know that 'tiga' means three in Malay???
>>23621711>>23621740And on that note: would it be possible for Ultraman to get more budget now, from Bandai I mean.
>>23622152They have been getting less and less budget since Blazar. Just look at the cast downsizing from Blazar to Arc to Omega, the movies and now even the sets in Omega.
>>23622163I'm very concerned that the next Ultra will return to the Ginga days where every fight took place in the same nondescript forest clearing.
>>23622152They just trademarked Koseidon and Bornfree for usage with merchandise, so........
>>23622163they're saving money for the anniversary season next year
>>23622033No
>>23622357they are not bringing those franchises back lol
>>23622033Yea. I like it better than most of the Shōwa era stuff. Really feel like it is one of the top Ultra shows. Daigo is a good character and the team has a lot or personality.
>>23622844That's what you said about Gridman
>>23622911>Daigo is a good characteryou don't have to go that far
Bruh what the fuck is happening in this episode
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6jpRX6Ut20How was Omega's 18th episode?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OghgT6sf2ccEpisode 19 preview.
Goofy or not that might have been the best Omega episode so far.
>>23623275Actually great episode.
>>23623275No such thing as a bad Barossa episode.
>>23623002NTA but I'm asserting there's likely not much (if anything) coming from Koseidon or BornFree, and I was a Gridman believer since Boys Invent Great Hero. THere's no real support-base for those two shows, no one who is in a position to pitch has ever even implied interest in either. The closest we got was >>23616700 which was met with little to no reception beyond "Oh cool" and Tsuburaya plainly didn't seem interested in anything after that response.Izenborg has Saudi money behind it and they still haven't gotten anything more than a documentary. Money is only like a quarter of the process, more of the value is on spearheads who are able to talk to the license owners at the right time.
>>23623359Izenborg was supposed to get a Matt Frank comic like, in 2021, I think it's fucking dead.
Starting with ep 11 Omega is now consistantly good. I wish it hadn't taken that long
>>23623335I agree! Mae me laugh quite a lot today and the plot is enjoyable. I didn't expect a tom and jerry gag in it too.Lot of past aliens stuff in here; I didn't expect them to bring up Hipporito's tar at all, which is one of those things in the franchise that sticks to me.
>>23622033No, but it was babby's first for a lot of people. There's a handful of genuinely amazing episodes but the show as a whole is weak and the finale is straight up shit despite the great setup.
>>23623275One of my favorites so far. I'm happy.
>>23623452boy you sure are wrong
Holy shit, kamen rider might also be canceled along with sentai. Ultra might be the only one left standing.
>>23623552>Implying Ultra has never been cancelled>more than once
>>23623552What the fuck are you talking about
>>23623599He's talking about this.>>23623294
>>23623603Excuse me if I find this hard to believe. Out of all of the toku shows, Ultraman has to be the most expensive one out of the bunch on the miniature alone. No way Rider is on the chopping block unless Toei has some massive accounting scandal incoming and/or they are massively retarded
>>23623603>implying kids believe in anything any moreIt's not like Rider really stood for anything really either. Showa Rider might have done that classic anti-hero shit, but Heisei Rider has been just drama shows with a suit.
>>23623609Ultraman doesn't stand for anything either nowadays
>>23623359Koseidon has the same cult following in Mainland China like Izenborg is to the Saudis, also due to being one of the few Tokus they officially brought over and dubbed back then, such that Tencent obtained the rights to produce a movie back in 2016 (but didn't materialize).Chinese companies have been making expensive collectibles for Koseidon in the past few years, so TsuPro/Bandai is probably trying to grab their part of that pie. If they want to expand the IP to Chinese kids though they'll need to produce a new show.
>>23623603i mean, ultra had to slot in 3 recaps now so total episode is 9 compared to sentai rider with 49 episodes...
>>23623610I can say Omega is about finding one's path and enjoy moments of life (slice of life), then protect that for life is fragile (2nd cour).
i dont care what anyone says. I WANT BARUSSY
>>23624246Was the baromum confused about human genders or are barossa "females" the ones with the dick?
>>23624254maybe kosei looks like a barossa girl or baromom is old and blind, i dont know. gilda seems to at least understand human gender roles better like with the princess and knight thing she talked about
watching some showa ultras lately. I always find it strange that the showa defense teams ended up being different each season, like dissolved and reestablished into something else yearly. Except for that five year gap between MAC and UGM.Do they explain reasons why in some sort of supplementary materials anywhere?
>>23624320transferred to america
>>23624254Maybe it's more like the Qunaris from Dragon Age where genders are defined by behavior rather than biology
>>23624320I have some headcanon I roll with to make sense of that, but yeah it is weird. Here is what I think:>The Science Patrol, while capable of combat, was never a military division. They were more for investigation of strange phenomena and research. However, as strange events turned increasingly hostile, more militant divisions were formed. >Ultra Guard formed to defend specifically against alien invasions, MAT formed against kaiju attacks specifically. Wave of alien invasions, however, means Ultra Guard sees more action initially. >MAT destroyed with Yapool invasion, TAC formed to better counter the Choju and their weirdness. TAC is mix of MAT and Ultra Guard. >Once Yapool and Choju are defeated for good, ZAT formed, closer to MAT in terms of purpose. I’ve got nothing after that. ZAT was highly successful and never destroyed so not sure why they’d be dissolved.
>>23624379Maybe it was a budget thing, not a necessity thing. >Dan forms MAC as a replacement for ZAT that's cheaper to run and as a possible attempt at reviving the Ultra Guard under a new name. MAC suffers and is eventually destroyed as by this time enemy aliens are fully aware of the Ultra presence on Earth and are willing to target them directly
>>23624710Good point. Also, in retrospect, Yapool probably destroyed the Ultra Guard to, and that’s why they’re no longer around.
>>23624379>>23624710>>23624320Both MAT and Ultra Guard were part of the Terrestrial Defense Agency and although "MAT" or "Ultra Guard" itself don't appear in Ace, the entire Terrestrial Defense Agency's forces are said to be destroyed in Ace's first episode. Although a few more show up to die in episode 2 too, so obviously not every single person was killed. So, yeah, at least those are basically dealt with on-screen even if not in a satisfying way.

>>23624379Presumably MAC is just a branch of ZATthey use the same vehicles after all
>>23625369They did? Don't think it was a pure recolor though. But dang, MAC is not as competent as ZAT.I did see the main ZAT vehicle in episode 9 iirc, used as a tourist attraction.
>>23624710Would be funny if the raypunk aesthetics for Mac was Dan's idea too.
On the topic of Leo: I always find it strange but also interesting that majority of the alien enemies ended up having a sort of kaiju form when they grow big. On top of my hat, only Magma and Barbarue retained their form. Have any heisei ultras do this? or even reiwa? I can't recall.
I wonder why they never try give the showa ultras a new form/power up. Would that be disrespecting them or something?
>>23625798It'd be like giving Superman more powers. Why mess with a classic when you can just make new ones
>>23625798That's likely their emergency move. Like if we see a power-up for the Ultra Bros that should be a sign things are not going well.
>>23614453Mediocre.Honestly, it's been an extremely long time since we've had an Ultraman show I'd put over "Mediocre".>>23614490Ultraman 80 comes right to mind. I personally love OG's spontaneous style of fighting too, it has a very bizarre and fun quality to it.
>>23625798Its more likely they have combination moves with the youngsters, like Ace and Z's combination attack.
>>23623605Probably the second option. Toei seems terrified of money and good decisions.
>>23625798I kinda figured the Showa Ultras don’t need transformations on account of them generally being older and more experienced than the New Gen Ultras. I like how Z treated it. All his fancy forms and shit was only there to put him on par with your standard Ultra. It was a crutch he will gradually grow out of (as shown by him beating his final fight in his base form).
>>23623605The miniatures are filmed on a film set. Rider and Sentai have to travel to locations to shoot. And Toei's always been retarded. They made a deal with Saban after all.
>>23623275Really great. It was funny, but had stakes and advanced the story. This was a really fun take on Barossa, who are quickly becoming one of my favorite aliens, right up there with Baltan. Curious what the threat to Earth the Barossa aliens referred to is.
>>23626161so does that mean Ultraman is actually cheaper to film then sentai and rider?
>>23626016Well, there's super taro. Wish they gave him a proper form change. Looks weird when standing next to Legend and Tristorium.>>23626011>>23626016>>23626023Well, it's just me mostly want to see the old guard get some new clothes matching with the youngins.
>>23625798Jack got the Ultra Bracelet, which is, as far as I can tell, the very first /m/ mid season upgradeI guess you could call Ace no longer needing Minami and Leo becoming competent enough to win without Seven's training a power up of sorts
>>23626475Have you never actually watched Ultraman?
>>23626542Don't forget Taro's king bracelet. And Leo did get a bracelet as well from King himself but I forgot what it's called.
>>23626550the way you said it made it sound like it was cheaper
>>23626475A good chunk of the buildings are just set dressings. They're not meant to be destroyed and can be moved and re-aranged. Meanwhile, Sentai and Rider need to go to actual locations and getting filming rights to shoot there.
Is Gaia the only ultra show with terrible subs? Loving the show so far but the subs are getting worse
did anyone go to ultraman live in new jersey? i hope this means the US gets more stage shows
>>23626783Cosmos is worse. The Ultraman is the worst out of all of them. And before you ask, no there won't be better subs, not until TsuPro does new comissions for them.
>>23626693huh, so Ultraman might outlast both? Crazy
>>23626828thanks for the info
>>23626828we need scrubs
>>23626870With sentai going to indefinite hibernation, wonder if Bandai would end up putting more money on Ultraman now.
>>23626893Finally, robo kaiju gattai. No seriously, imagine Red Gomora, Blue Birdon and such.inb4 that's how they revive Koseidon
Is there any reason why Arc's soundtrack isn't available anywhere for download yet? I can find everything up to Blazar's but nothing past that
sorry for sounding like a filthy secondary but is there some scanlated ultraman manga that adapts the original series or something similar? i wanna see if i like it before i potentially commit to watching all the tv series.
>>23627298There are multiples, a few are translated, but largely have little to do with the shows. The way manga adaptations worked back then was that they featured the characters and Kaiju in the show (sometimes original Kaiju) and vaguely followed the same stories at best. Reading them probably wouldn't tell you if you'd like to watch the shows or not. People read them because they wanted more of the shows and rarely the other way around, as the show is free on TV, you have to buy magazines for the manga.
>>23627298Honestly man, just try a few episodes of the original Ultraman. It’s a classic and basically every episode is standalone. That will give you more of a taste of Ultraman than anything else will.
>>23626822From the pictures I saw the place was PACKED, people were crowding on the balconies to watch
>>23627247Legal or ripped? I just bought the digital release last week on mora.jp. It's also on youtube.
I'm watching the original and decided to add Ultraman to this meme.
Started my journey on watching and finishing showa Ultraseven. I did watch episode 1 and 2 many years ago when I got the cd and watched entirety of heisei seven and evolution on tv but never got to do the showa series.I'd say, I already see Dan doing similar recklessness and mistakes Gen does in Leo's early episodes.
>>23628660Hope you enjoy it. A lot of people have high praise for Ultraseven. I personally found it a bit hard to get through though. EVERY episode being an alien invader (with maybe one exception) made it feel way more repetitive than most Ultra shows.
I'm starting to feel like they gave the ultraman's name wrong. Omega should have been Arc since Ark as Omega is leading 3 kaiju buddies and is quite knowledgeable in most kaiju.
is cosmos worth watching? i'm seeing mixed opinions
>>23630465Yes if you are not an irony-poisoned cynic brainrotted by pessimism disguised as realismNo if you don't think we should strive for a better life and better world
>>23630493lol thanks
the helmet kaiju returns
>>23630465The only reason it's number 4 on my list rather than number 1 is because it never kills off a human character. It's better than basically every new gen Ultra at a minimum
Do the armors for arc and omega work on ultra figures? like the showa ones if there's any new releases currently?
Bros I'm really enjoying R/B. Even after Aizen's departure.>>23630847What does your full ranking look like?
>>23631456Well you asked me to rank 28 shows for whatever reason, so here you are1. Tiga1. Dyna (tie)3. Blazar4. Cosmos5. Mebius5. Nexus (tie)7. Ultraseven (not a pun)8. Ultraman (1966)9. Orb10. Gaia11. Max12. Arc13. Decker14. Z15. Neos16. R/B17. Taro18. 8019. Ginga20. Geed21. X22. UGMMB NEO22. UGMMB (tie; honestly they feel like the exact same show)23. Return of Ultraman24. Trigger25. Leo 26. Ginga S27. Taiga28. AceObviously there's a lot of asterisks with these. For example Blazar is only that high because it appeals to various sensibilities I have, while Leo is only that low because I got so hyped watching the first third that everything afterwards was soul crushing disappointment. I'd put Omega between Taro and 80 as it standsR/B was fun enough, just disappointing that it got blander after Aizen left. I liked the alien party episode
>>23631710NTA, but I’m curious why you rank Return of Ultraman so low.
>>23631792its overrated
>>23631710I mostly agree with this list except for the middle part and tying Tiga with Dyna. Dyna is so far above Tiga in every aspect that I don't really understand tying them. What's the reason?Taro above Return of Ultra is also crazy to me. I'd put that right next to Ginga S and Ace at the bottom. Return wasn't good but it didn't have any episodes that made me want to rip my eyes out.
So if he was given the name Ultraseven by the earthlings what the fuck was he called before that?
>>23631792It was super obnoxious in the first half with the characters constantly mistrusting Go despite Go being proven right time and time againAnd then when they killed off the Sakatas in the second half I just lost all interest in the show since they were the only thing causing me to be invested in Go as a character. It's like, Go had dreams, he was gonna be a racer, and he was gonna get married to the sister, and then both of those went up in smoke, were brushed under the rug and were replaced with nothing>>23631840I don't see how Dyna was better than Tiga. Like yeah, I like Asuka better than Daigo and it had better fight scenes, but I think Tiga had better episode writing on average and I preferred its music. They were both great for different reasons.Taro was certainly a unique show. I liked all the crazy shit in it, my problem with it was that there wasn't enough of it and it just failed to be as consistently insane as those first few episodes promised, although it did go back there every now and then. It was a little more consistent than Leo, I feel
>>23631861You learn it in the second-to-last episode.
It's peak
>>23631867>they were the only thing causing me to be invested in Go as a character.Agreed. I think at that point I started skipping episodes. This kid of writing problem is in a lot of Ultra shows. 80 started out with this cool teacher with a crush and a focus on kids, but in less than a dozen episodes it was just like all the shows before it.
Kopelley making mini vehicles toohttps://weibo.com/7136849358/QeGNQbpJdDon't they already have brick kits?
>>23630465I think Cosmos has the most unique villain in Ultra series because Chaos Header is very active and evolving villain. Started from infecting kaiju to human and create their own body and fake ultraman. I think the characters also mentioned that if Cosmos grew stronger then Chaos Header also grew stronger and human must build stronger weapon so its a hopeless battle like weapon race that can only solved with making peace with your enemy or full eradication.
>>23630847Some people said saving monster is a kid plot, but some of my favorite episode is when they failed and the kaiju is killed. Also one of the best alien baltan interpretation in First Contact.
>>2363200880 had a lot of misfortunes happening towards it. https://ultrablogdx.wordpress.com/2019/03/17/ultraman-80-production-info/
>>23631710Thanks for the list! Always interesting to see how people rank shows. Yours is not too dissimilar to mine, with the main difference being I rank Taiga very highly. I think Taiga has some of the best miniatures, effects, fight choreography and action shots of the entire franchise. Plus most episodes have something interesting going on or some kind of emotional core. The extended transformation sequences aren't as bad as R/B imo.
>>23632221I think a cool concept for a kaiju could be a DESCENDANT of the Baltan race, who evolved into a new being to survive extinction. That way the monster themselves is a metaphor for the Iijima estate's stifling levels of creative control
>>23631861Hernendez.
>>23630616So who did they re-dress to make this suit? Neronga or Pagos?
>>23632694Neronga
i don't see how anyone can like Auska as a Protag. he's insufferable for the whole series
>>23632768>AuskaAustralian counterpart to Asuka?
>>23632226>80 had a lot of misfortunesThat was a good read, thanks anon.
>>23632214Yeah, that's part of why I rate Cosmos so high. Chaos Header was an outstanding concept for a villain. I can't even imagine how much money was spent on the show with them having to make an infected version of almost every kaiju suitAnd like you mentioned the way it caused Musashi to develop was also impressive in how subtle it was. That mid-show arc where he got frustrated and wanted to grow more powerful to defeat Chaos Header, and then the end of the show where he wanted to save it were both total curveballs for me. The whole show was really, the concept of the show being about a pacifist Ultra made it sound like the most boring shit ever, but once I actually tried it, it blew all my expectations to smithereens. Even its reputation as a childish show gave way to some surprisingly mature episodes, like one revolving around a girl who was rescued by a kaiju and became the poster child for human and kaiju relations, but who grew to resent the media attention as she aged and just wanted to move on and live a normal life. Peak stuff
>>23632963I heard Cosmos was able to make SO MANY kaiju suits because they only had one miniture set, so they saved a lot of money there
>>23632963Cosmos is more child-like with the more roundly designed monsters and more fairytale like settings and standalone episodes, but it is by no means childish. It's metaphorically and literally a story about growing up. We start with Musashi as a kid in the movie, then in TV where he has the two major growth points (combining power and kindness with Eclipse and having the power yet choosing UNDERSTANDING at the finale), then finally in the other two movie where he has to defend the kindness (towards fish people in Blue Planet and Justice in Final Battle) with power again. Not just Musashi either. Fubuki, Ayano, Doigaki all visibly changes over the series. Each EYES member has at least like three focus episode per person. Even Chaos Header grew up over the show, literally, with each evolution. Cosmos has a very hopeful message in mind and beat you over the head with it. If you are into that kind of message, Cosmos is one of the best shows. If you are not though, ehh
I love Cosmos the show and he's also my favorite ultra to have show up as a guest just because he has such a defined niche to set him apart.
>>23632963Cosmos episode 12 with Ephemera & Fubuki's sister about life & death is also splendid episode with mature theme. Is there any old or new gen Ultra episode with similar theme?

Can someone explain to me what's going on with China and the mantles? I'm very confused about the whole thing
>>23633126Ultraman Arc episode 10 is probably the most emotional one off episode in New Gen.
>Come across a clip of OG man vs Jirahs on TikTok>He rips the gills off>Beats Jirahs to death with his bare hands>Jirahs falls dead>OGman fucking picks up the gill and puts it over the face of the corpseWhat the fuck I don't remember that last bit
>>23633213It's a humiliation ritual showing how TV Toku at the time was about to murder the silver screen Kaiju eiga.
>>23633199TsuPro/SCLA and Chaiyo/UMC have been suing each other's licensees for the past few years. In one instance SCLA sued UMC's licensee for using the mantles, since mantles was a later thing, they thought it was wholly Tsupro, not covered by the Chaiyo contract. However the Guangdong court found mantles to be "too generic", not enough for Tsupro to claim ownership. End result is UMC could now use the mantles freely and their licensees have done so slapping them on all their merch.
>>23633344How should they resolve this matter with UMC? Considering that the Ultra series is Eiji's complete ownership.
>>23633357Not in China, the Guangdong court's 2013 acknowledgement of the drunk Noboru-Sompote agreement has yet to be be overturned, meaning there are still two "legal" owners of the Showa 6 over there. And with the mantle-lawsuit backfiring, it's probably going to stay that way. Both parties making petty lawsuits against their licensees on their "home turfs", SCLA vs UMC, Shanghai vs Guangdong.
>>23633369We need a miracle for this to get solved at this point.
>>23633415I've suggested Beijing before, however it also appears Bandai has had some sway in this, considering recent toys associated with UMC have dropped the mantlesMaybe Bandai threatened to pull their toys out of the Chinese market if both companies didn't behave
>>23633446Or Bandai should just side with Tsuburaya and make small pulls from the chinese market to give them a warning.>>23633448What happened here???
>>23633446Not sure what you mean. Shanghai favors SCLA so there's no reason they wouldn't sue there. Same with UMC and Guangdong. Everywhere else it's 50-50 no point either party will risk that.Bandai was always Pro-TsuPro and never had any dealings with Chaiyo/UMC, there's no reason for UMC to listen to Bandai. If you meant Bandai pulling strings at the Guangdong court, they've probably already done that back in the big, important 2013 lawsuit. They'll be even less effective now since UMC has partnered up Audley/Alpha Group for toys like those Blokees ripoffs in >>23633344 Audley rivals Bandai in size and is a Guangdong local so the courts there would favor UMC more than ever.Anyway, even if TsuPro/SCLA comes up with some genius tactic to shut UMC down for good, it'll be too late for the 60th anniversary next year. Nothing much they can do beyond what they've been doing: Promote Showa 6 within Japan only, and push Leo-onward in China.>>23633448People really don't like Ginga huh.
>>23633462You're ignorant of them reusing the term "salted egg superman"Personally my belief is the drama that stops all this won't come from TsuPro or Chaiyo, but from the fans themselves
>>23633464You mean >>23615407 ??I'm the one who posted that. It doesn't really mean anything since UMC is still using both names.
>>23633466Fair enoughPoint still stands, at this rate fixing all this will be a bottom-up affair, not top-down
>>23633471It worked in Thailand, fan pressure pretty much forced the courts to banish Chaiyo. But idk about China, the courts are all-business. Guangdong defending their local factories, Shanghai defending their foreign-hub image. Either way it's still too late for the 60th.
>>23633478Fans would simply stop buying the products made by Audley, then Guangdong and Shanghai have to reverse rulings to save face, hopefully since they'd make the logical conclusion that the boycott is due to perceived shady business practices

>>23635665It depends on the scene
>>23635665Literally only 1 scene out of three is on greenscreen. The clay drop is on greenscreen because they wanted a zoomed-out shot and using car miniatures like in the second one wouldn't work without multiple miniatures of different scales, or really really big stage.

>>23639883>>23639648Any time he appears they want full creative controlBy now they should create a new race that's implied to be descended from Baltans but disavowed their philosophy to prevent extinction
>>23639613>>23639883>>23639906I thought the reason they don’t use Baltan anymore in shows is due to Cosmos: First Contact giving closure to them as a race and redeeming the first Ultraman’s pretty unwarranted genocide of them in their first episode.

so what is it with Ultraman that makes them specifically shy away from female Ultras? even KR has been trying, sometimes, to get a female rider every once and awhilethe most recent thing we've had is what... Spica? Who died? Seems like a waste.
>>23640883>so what is it with Ultraman that makes them specifically shy away from female Ultras? It's literally in the franchise tittle in case you haven't noticed
>>23640909and?
>>23640883Low profit margin for such an investment
>>23640883They don't sell to little boys, which is the mass target demographic for the toys.
>>23640883Spica wasn't a female Ultra. Most recent female ultra we've had is Carrmaera from Trigger
>>23641132>>23640883I genuinely forgot spica and the other cosmo beast masters existed
>>23641132>>23641213Spica was a compromise between Tsuburaya and Sakamoto: they allowed him to insert his thigh fetish character but only if she's killed off and can't be reused.
>>23640883>>23641132>>23641213What about Grigio from R/B?
>>23641132i just meant recent in "female huge character"
Finished Ultraman Ace today.I know I'm not saying anything that hasn't been said before, but this is a show of just purely wasted potential. Minami was criminally underutilized and while having an over-arching villain sounds cool in theory, Yapool just made episodes repetitive (I had this same problem with Ultraseven).Ironically, I liked the show more once they dropped everything that made it unique, but I think that's because it became a slightly worse Return of Ultraman. That "Sixth Ultra Brother" kid was a far cry from Jiro, but even he got more to do than Minami most episodes.Still, it's easily going to the bottom of my ranking.
>>23640883Kamen Rider's been introducing multiple riders a season for a while, so it's easier to make one of them female in their case. Not counting returning characters, Ultra only really has the main Ultraman and sometimes a secondary, so I don't think Tsubaraya wants to bet on marketing toys of a girl to boys.I guess they could try doing a pair like R/B but male and female, or a male ultra with a female host/vice versa.Personally, my theory is that a giant woman for a whole series like Carmeara would be too lewd for a full series, can't do all the ass shots the recent series have been having with a girl.
>>23641644>Still, it's easily going to the bottom of my ranking.Same here. Also, Hokuto is a whinny asshole for most of the show. I think the fact I didn't think Hokuto was cool at all was the biggest problem for me.
>>23641932Honestly, none of the characters were all that well written. The only TAC member who stuck out to me at all was Yamanaka, if only because he was an asshole who was always berating Hokuto.I guess Hokuto was very sympathetic to children but Hideki Go did that a LOT better.I feel like Minami had a chance to be interesting if they actually had the whole "Moon person on a quest for vengeance against one particular Choju" from the start, but it's obvious that was a last-minute decision.
>>23641644It wouldn't have been that bad if there were enough standout episodes to make up for it, but it only has like 4 standout episodes out of 50. Specifically the only ones I remember are the one with the manga artist in the beginning, the mid-series two parter where all the Ultra brothers get frozen and it's up to Ace to save them, and the Revenge of Verokron at the end. There are some new gen shows that are half as long and have twice as many standouts. Even independent of whatever new ideas it failed to explore, it still fell flat. Just an utterly subpar show all around. Honestly after a show like Ace, I too, would have come up with something like Taro as the follow up. Ace was just so bland and boring and frustrating that the only real antidote was some crazy goofball shit
>>23642075What's funny is that recently I've seen remarks in Gaia video about how newgen shows have watered down scripts and less experimental and standout episodes. Not sure how true that is. Granted, it's a comparison of newgen with gaia rarher than the showa stuff.
>>23642220New gen is less episodic in general albeit that also applies to Gaia itself. Gaia only has like 2 really good episodes that don't have anything to do with the overarching plot. Most of the plot hinges on a particular character who hard carries the show, and any time he's not around, the show is generally very boring and lifelessNew Gen doesn't quite have the same hard division between episodic and overarching in the way Gaia does though. Generally it's more like every episode will either have an A plot unique to the episode and a B plot that covers the overarching elements (Taguchi's shows do this a lot) or will be fully episodic but feature some character development and powerups and other recurring elements like we're seeing currently with OmegaI would say that new gen is far less experimental and interesting with its episodic content than Heisei Ultra, but not compared to showa Ultra? It's probably a little better. Just too many showa Ultra episodes revolved around random kids getting into shenanigans such that basically every show after Ultraseven felt like the casting department was doing constant elementary school tours. I really disliked that about showa Ultra, how even the main characters took a back seat to oneoff children and so none of the episodes explored any of the cool concepts in the shows , developed the characters or had any interesting sci-fi mystery plots
>>23642276been a long time since I've seen Gaia to be honest. I should give it a go again one of these days. But you're right. I can't even remember at all about the show's non-core plot episodes at the moment.>>23642276>basically every show after Ultraseven felt like the casting department was doing constant elementary school tours.Yeah I remember how a good stretch of the showa shows have this though somehow I feel Taro is less annoying about it, probably because of the tone of the show itself. I think it's because of the perception of tokusatsus during that era, in being that kids are getting more into it, hence from Jack and onwards things got more fast-paced actions and kids involved in plots.
>>2364257580 had the right idea for contextualizing having a bunch of children in the show, just a shame they couldn't stick with it. Still, even after they got rid of the teacher concept, I did feel like the later episodes that revolved around oneoff kids were a little better than what we got before. Though I felt Taro was better about it just as you did. Maybe it was just because both shows didn't really have any high concepts that were being squandered in favor of the kids. I couldn't say the same for Ace or Leo
>>23642588Man 80's potential was really squandered from the social climate during that time period ;w;If 80 got a better reception and stuck with its initial premise, wonder if the franchise would have a shorter hibernation. Hmm.Leo was affected by ratings. Taro was considered childish and driven off majority of the older audience, which is weird considering Taro got beheaded once; Birdon being Birdon, among other things that I wouldn't consider childish.
