In reality it's the same industry-wide standard-ABS that isn't what it used to be and easily snaps from just looking at it wrong, especially when it comes to joints.

Besides the above, the Candy thing makes it harder to ship overseas since it's classified as food. Amazon JP only started shipping it overseas a few years ago.

They've also dropped the cheaper, candyless Bandai HK version some time around LuPat. Without them you only have the JP batch, so if a wave is too popular it's pretty much impossible to buy without a preorder, like Don Onitaijin, you end up with scalper prices.
