I'm currently rewatching the original to refresh myself for the sequel, but as I remember, Kayura, Anubis, Naaza and Rajura said that they were going to reform the empire of doom and the yoja would in general. Were they weakened because of the Trooper's armors being destroyed in the OVA? That's my prevailing theory so far. When Ryo, Toma, Seiji, Shin and Xiu all had their armors destroyed and got new ones, the energies of the armors probably got dispersed and Kayura maybe sensed this and had to capture them and reforge them into the new armors for the new protags because if she didn't, it'd probably mean that Arago would be able to absorb it and reconstitute himself and the act of reforging it left her and the other Demon Generals vulnerable and now this discount Empire of Doom was able to rise in their place.

Just finished the series and the OVAs. I'm now caught up for the sequel show.
What does anyone suppose the original cast will appear in the new show? At the point of where the new show will begin, they'll all be in their early 50s. I expect they'll probably be mentioned a number of times. My guess being at the least that Nasti will probably appear as the head and founder of the DST, given she spoke to the UN during a conference about the Yoja world's invasion. I think that makes the most sense since she's effectively the foremost expert on on earth regarding the matter, apart from the original Troopers themselves.
The original cast are probably appearing. There were leaks showing designs for Ryo, Mia, Yuli (that little tag along kid), and White Blaze a while back. Plus, the voice actors keep making appearances at recent fan screening events.

And Suzunagi originally creating the new armors explicitly to summon the Kikotei to destroy the world probably didn't help their attitude to it either. The creators of Samurai Troopers even said that they looked to the Saint Seiya toys as inspiration for the armor. Even the concept art was hilariously similar to Shingo Araki's style (see attached scan from the 30th anniversary book). There's no shame in admitting this show copied another in concept.
Just a reminder that Love Live character designers were involved in the character designs for Yoroi Shin Den Samurai Troopers. Like I said in the past, both Samurai Troopers and Love Live are like the only Sunrise-original franchises to not even involve mecha, which is saying a lot that a Love Live character designer is even involved in designing the characters (the armors are still the original designer from the original Samurai Troopers).
