Looks fun but it's an adaptation.
I hate CGI...
>>23664521Not everyone can be Orange.
>>23664588I'm a bit sad that we've gotten so used to mediocrity that we can't even complain anymore... let's just consume and say thank you...
>>23664512And?
>>23664468I remember back when the manga just started I expected it to get axed.
>>23664601By this point, you have to let it go. This isn't your age anymore. It's their era
>>23664667Are you happy with the current state of the anime industry? I think it's okay to complain, but I don't really expect much more from them. Thankfully, there's more than enough old crap to keep me entertained, just a bit sad that they don't put enough effort into it anymore
>>23664521Looks fine to me
>>23664692It's not particularly ugly; it's just pretty disappointing when you particularly enjoy 2D animation, and it's getting more and more uncommon for super robot shows. I can't help but view it as a crutch when they flip-flop between 2D and 3D, highlighting that it's not much of an art direction choice but more of a budgetary one
>>23664468That's pretty neat. Read the first volumes or so, right before the main girl found a giant bird and got fire powers. I thought it was fine, pretty charming. But it's not reaaally typical mecha. It's more regular shonen with robots. But, eh, it's fine. Also he loses the diet Gunbuster in the first episode and is stuck with a giant sphere blob robot.Did the manga scanlation continue or was it licensed? I see it was hit by Mangadex purge. Also, i recall reading that Anno himself recommend it, or said he liked what he read, lel.
>>23664603I only watch original anime.
>>23664690NTA, I'm fine with cost-cutting measures since I'm more a writing guy but feel like the industry leans too heavily into the appeal to otaku. There's nothing inherently wrong with some wish fulfillment but I don't like how it's bleeding over into more "normal" series. The expansion of yuribait in mahou shoujo is the prime example. It's because the people who entered the industry are otaku who like yuri and instead of making something primarily for the target audience they're building it for self-satisfaction.
>>23664746I think I get where you are going. I find it a bit weird that anime nowadays lacks shows made for children. A lot of super robots and magical girls were made for children and just happened to also be enjoyed by adults, but now children just watch One Piece and so on, or at least I assume they do.
>>23664746What does any of this have to do with the topic at hand?>>23664793There are plenty of shows made for children that still air in Japan. People just don't talk about them here. Well, to be fair, /m/ does have a higher propensity to acknowledge those things if there happens to be a robot in them, like Shinkalion. But in general just because anime is more broadly popular in the west doesn't mean everybody is suddenly an expert or that the trends here reflect the trends there. anyway cg still sucks
I see that this is going to become a "muh CG" thread huh
>>23664793And you are wrong, the vast majority of seasonal anime are never for children in the first place. Children still have essentially if not literally the same shit like Gegege no Kitaro, Chibi Maruko, Precure, Shinkalion, fucking Pokemon, so and so.>>23664746CGI are not even cost-cutting by nature, shitty CGI is the same as shitty off-model 4 fps hand-drawn anime. Cost-cutting is just cost-cutting. If anything even cost cutting CGI are more expensive than dogshit 2D anime, the committee just pushes for CGI because of how much Pixar and western CG movies overall warped their perception. That and talents problem, a lot of anime are now rely on outsourcing. It doesn't help that most seasonal anime rely on shoe string budget and little to no production time, so most will just look like shit.
>>23664822This is why I said nowadays, when anime didn't follow the seasonal structure, don't try to feed anime to children as much as they used to
>>23664822>the vast majority of seasonal anime are never for children in the first placeabsolutely delusional
>>23664849Yes you retarded inbred, look at the airing timetable for them.
>>23664814If the subject is about the state of the industry it's about the commodification and the production staff seeming to become more indulgent. In the Showa era when anime first started to get big many studios didn't have the experience or infrastructure to compete with companies like Disney in raw production value so they focused on the storytelling. It's nice to have good visuals but they're part of a larger picture. You could argue that the shift towards budget productions is actually the result of the industry being so commercialized. Because it's more profitable for a studio to phone in a light novel adaptation than to go all-out on a passion project it could be argued they're spreading the work force too thin if you specifically care about sakuga.
>>23664814We sometimes talk about Shinkalion and Digimon but yeah.
>>23664468I would have said Hero Organization would be a better bet but then I remembered it only has 4 volumes.
>>23664696It's not just budget, we've known for years that the current industry doesn't have enough animators with the skills to draw robots well, combined with the fact many robots have very complex designs these days, make a mech show way more dificult to do in 2d.
>>23664821Like it or not, we’re never gonna return to wholly 2D animated mech shows unless we completely revise how the industry works which is just… impossible.
>>23664900Even Sunrise, arguably the most well known studio when it comes to mecha has struggled with finding good key animators proficient with mecha. Which is Fukuda pushed for CG in Freedom, because while it’s more costly- it’s easier and more efficient to animate a model then to teach someone how to draw a Gundam.
>>23665021>struggled with finding good key animators proficient with mechaThey should have taught them then. Now everybody's crying over spilled milk. KyoAni, PA Works, many other studios do newbie training - what stopped Sunrise, the powerhouse of mecha anime, from doing the same, but with a focus on big robots?
>>23664900That's unfortunate, we have a lack of passionate and talented robot fans...
>>23665030That's exactly what those Side L/Side R music videos they've been doing are for but it'll still take time to put animators through mecha bootcamp
>>23664468>inb4 this gets into a SRW and paired with Overman King Gainer>>23664713 I thought it was Kojima?
>>23665030>>23665085You also need to have people willing to go in that direction. Less mecha fans, less mecha animators.
>>23664793There are still plenty of shows in Japan made for children. They just don't get subbed or talked about in english-speaking places
>>23664731Not that anon, but that's the single most gayest shit ever and not even real faggots share this way of thinking.
>>23664601You're just a whiny bitch. Whatever 3DCG that they're doing with that anime is actually just fine if you compare it with another decent manga that get an Ex-Arm treatment of adaptation like this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB6qXk2YOYE
>>23665260I think it's becoming quite a common sentiment. With how cheap modern anime is and having seen so many manga (Or especially LN's, in which there is literally no point in watching an adaptation of) butchered why would you bother watching anything but original anime?
>>23667704Because unlike you, my taste is good enough that anything that I like that gets an anime adaptation tends to get a good one.
>>23667704This is not common. Not every show based off a LN or manga is butchered.
I just wish more CG mech shows were like first few seasons zoids. They put a ton of effort into making the robots move well, showed the zoids getting fucked up or blown to bits, battle damage and they rarely looked jarring compared to everything else.
