I can't decide whether play Y or 30 because I don't have time for both, so I wanna choose one that I can really enjoy. Also, I have a friend who played Alpha gaiden when he was a kid but never knew what SRW was, now I'm telling him about the franchise and he's asking me for a recommendation. What would you guys recommend me? And what can I recommend my friend if he has no idea of any other robots but Mazinger Z
>>23667427Y is more challenging V has black matte bullet which is the best xyz character theme and Nine and Nevelina the best clank oyakodon combination
>>23667427V, that was my first SRW game a few months ago, which got me to play SRW 30, and about to play X.
>>23667427Play V if you can. It's easy ,but It's the best SRW to start with, great story, great cast, and not overly long. You can then try 30 or Y if you still want another SRW. Y offers a better challenge and has a better story than 30.
>>23667429>>23667431>>23667450Thank you, although I already played V and X, so now I wanted to give it a try to 30 or Y.I've read mixed opinions on both so I wanted to be sure what to expect of each one before I make up my mind.
>>23667427>>23667453If it's between those two, then definitely go with Y, unlike you really dislike its line up.30 introduces this system where you choose the order you'll tackle the maps, with a few obligatory missions that work as "convergence" points for the story. The problem with how 30 handled this is that it resulted in many maps focusing on a single show (since you could do the stages in any order), with the others just commenting on the sidelines (and sometimes not even that, especially in early chapters you can go through stages where entire series in your team are just silent) and even the interactions of the cast felt limited compared to past games in spite of some good moments here and there (but the game's story is overall longer than any previous SRW...). The story also has basically no flow. You go from dramatic to slow stages and in the end-game it feels like you're mopping up enemy remnants, rather than raising the stakes. They also kind of gave up and many stages are just open terrain with no defining features. 30's DLC stages are also repetitive, using the same "unit warped from another dimension and needs to get back home" plot for everyone that progresses in a similar way. Now, where 30 shines is the big line up and many new assets, both sprites (although questionable animation quality in some cases) and especially voice acting. It has by far the biggest active cast out of any modern SRW (as opposed to recycled voice clips), with tons of reactions from many characters to many different enemy types from other shows. Y in comparison has many shows with just reused voices, including big protagonists like Kouji and Amuro (heck, the entire UC cast just has recycled clips in Y), but, although keeping 30's structure, the actual stages have more crossovers and even more unique gameplay gimmicks (although it still carries some issues like space not having terrain ratings). The story starts slow, but gets quite dramatic later.
