Possibly the Principality hoped to turn the battle around by the time it was deployed, or they were very, very early test models, or even post-OYW modifications. Also, don't forget that a lot of Zeon remnant factions still kept some of their toys hidden away on Earth or in the colonies after the war, or they were acquired/confiscated the Federation, or sold off to third parties like the Blue Corps in ZZ, or mercenary groups.

I still find it unrealistic that GQ Zeon dropped ALL of their bespoke designs in favor of a shoddily reverse-engineered Gundam, instead of simply taking what they could and applying it to their already substantial MS research. Hell- they couldn't even give this faker a proper mono eye!
>>
>>23672544
Makes sense to me. They had the spanking brand new prototype that's geared towards serving as basis for a new mass production model already. Mainline Gelgoog development had to be delayed because encountering the Gundam shifted all their priorities around. Here it's just more effective to focus all in on the already prepared platform than try to update the old one or waste time fusing them when you've got a war to win NOW.
Besides there are still bits of Gelgoonity in it if you know where to look (utility equipment on the forearms or color scheme for example, and just has a naginata).
And actually in a way they did fuse it with Zeon styling, namely in the propulsion systems. Gundam and Guncannon focus on the backpack thrusters from the core fighter whereas Zaku and Dom propulsion is concentrated in the lower body - hips or waist and legs. Rick Dom sticks a leg onto the backpack but that can be seen as a simple way of adapting the same principle as soon as Gundam data was acquired.
Then the Gelgoog reuses Dom-heritage leg thrusters on a much lighter platform while refining the backpack thrusters into early binders. Meanwhile Gyan retains the "simple" backpack thruster format of the Gundam together with thigh-level thrusters akin to Zaku.
>>
>>23672564
What annoys me about the GMgoog besides the nubbins that they kept from the concept art despite scrapping any of the intended attachments (bits don't count since they're just jury rigged onto the gundam) is how unarmoured ured it looks, it's got exposed fuel tanks comprising 80% of its legs, the arms are essentially just raw hinges, there's no skirting or panels. It looks like a civilian model rather than a late war powerhouse

On top of what >>23672564 said, anon, you also gotta remember just how absolutely batshit the Gundam was. In 0079, it blasted through virtually everything Zeon threw at it - Zakus, Goufs, Doms and Rick Doms, mobile armors, battleships, and so forth. It makes sense to me that the GQX Principality would just drop most of what they did in place of just mass-producing the Gundam. I mean, that's what the GM is, after all.

Also yeah, OP, the Google is fucking amazing. From the original Gelgoog to the Galbaldy to the Vertex Program, I'd say it's both the best for its time and the best looking Zeon MS overall. though the Geara Doga is a close second for me

While the absolute sexiest zeon mech will always be the Zudah F, goog is definitely a contender. I think part of why I don't like gqux going is there's features that can't be explained without going out of universe. The gundam has pairs of eyes, albeit thee of them, and the zeon suits are running off monoeyes. Even if zeon decides multiple eyes work better how did they wind up with a GM style screenface?
>>
>>23673120
To me, the GQX goog's eyes remind me of that one Feddie Gelgoog from Thunderbolt. But instead of looking like a mix between a jim visor and a goog monoeye, it looks like a mix between the jim's visor and a dom's monoeye? It's odd.
It's also worth pointing out that unlike the Jegan, the GM actually has a pair of eyes under the visor, so it could be that the Gelgoog is less a Zeon mobile suit and more of a Feddie suit, but made by Zeon, perhaps? It also begs the question of why the hell didn't the Federation build more Gundams, or why didn't they use whatever project notes they had on Grandpa to make another one besides the original 3 or so in GQX, or to improve the Light Cannon models they already had.

I'm guessing since they were banking on the combat data from the gundam the GMs underperformed in the field and zeon wound up with the edge in close combat, leading to them shifting to ranged superiority as the focus, like how in OYW goufs despite being a melee suit got outmatched by beam swords so they shifted tactics with the flight type and custom to keep out of melee.
>>
>>23673133
Light Cannon is basically using Gundam limbs on a Gun Cannon chest/helmet. And they did have that Psycho Gundam, so clearly making more Gundams wasn't out of question. They'd just go with the RX-78-1 type faces rather than RX-78-2.

It is odd the apparent biggest OYW ace they had was just in an MP suit though.

0080's UMP suits are explained as having like double the speed of their predecessors but half the effective combat times because these thrusters guzzle fuel like your mom does my nards.
That's why they all have fuel tanks by default except Zaku FZ - this one is intended as a ship escort unit while the stronger suits are sent into the direct fight. Of course due to logistical limitations and late war chaos nobody had the means to use that doctrine in practice so Zaku FZ struggled to conserve fuel.

>The poached UC designs from Destiny are the definition of soulless corporate slop.
Perhaps, but the designs are already timeless. You can't really improve a Zaku or Gelgoog design. Not to mention, at least Seed used the same mecha designer (Kunio Okawars) that was used in the original MSG 0079 show from the 1970s. So it pays respect to the original.

>The worst part is that they actually had their own CE lime going with GINNs ad such but decided that SEED wasn't enough of a 079 remake so they copied the Zeon MS too

But I will give Seed credit. The truly unique suits were the aqua suits that ZAFT used. And also those doggy mobile armors.

>>23692833
You don't need to copy the Zaku on every AU. Even if most have a "Zaku Like" they can put their own spin on the idea and be great too. See: Leo, Graze, Desultor and Dilanza, Batalla, the Den'ans, etc.
>>
>>23692858
>You don't need to copy the Zaku on every AU
The only ones guilty of that are Turn A and SEED Destiny, chill out
>>
>>23692864
That's my point. SEED is the only one that does the souless copying. The borjarnons come in relatively late into Turn A and the whole point of the show is digging up old MS (also technically they're RF Zakus, not Zaku IIs)
>>
>>23692872
So what are you talking about with 'every AU'

>>

>>
>>23693053
Definitely reentry but not the other way around. Not even in Victory can MS get back into space without a shuttle. Regardless, these should be higher than normal trained Zeon pilots. Maybe not special forces but at least higher than average. Just because they are only fighting space doesn't mean they aren't at least trained for reentry and terrestrial combat as well. Sorta like how Marines got deployed in the middle east during GWOT.

The GINN's also pretty significantly different as a design. No power pipes, no shoulder spikes or shoulder shield (has symmetrical shoulder armours instead, unlike the Zaku), no mouth grille, no elbow roundels, all of which the ZAKU kept. The GINN's also got some new features like the head fin, and the backpack wing thingies to distinguish it from the Zaku. They didn't even give it an -06 serial number, it's the 'Zaku expy' just by virtue of being the basic monoeye grunt

Idk why Bandai fucking hates the gelgoog its one of the most iconic zeon suits. I'm not even asking for a reddit grade or nothing just like a revive or a 2.0 PLEASE bandai

It is genuinely baffling to me the origin line hasn't come out with a Gelgoog and hasn't absolutely milked the crap out of like they did with the Zakus. I'd be willing to buy a tristar goog, some ridiculous ground type goog, and obviously a standard goog from the line. On top of all of that you could also obviously tack on Char's goog to it all

Is this a Carnage Heart Tripod reference!?
Funny thing is that I painted the Tripod in Dom colors in my EXA runs

By late UC (around the time of F90), all the various space terrorist groups started designing/producing RF versions of old MS, which basically means it's a jegan/geara doga with an exterior that looks like a Zaku II, Gouf, Dom etc with some minor differences and of course, greatly improved performance. They suck against miniaturized MS, but they work great against colony defense forces comprised of older MS. And they're easy to make anywhere because they use parts that can be found anywhere, even on non-military stuff.

How much is one hated to get put into a fucking Zaku I that late into the war?
>>
>>23707354
Probably fire support assist role given to a volunteering type of coward, a veteran particular to his custom controls Zaku I, or some non-combat role like a mechanic drafted out of desperation
The pic looks cool but canonically it's just cadets barely knowing what the hell they will have to do next

It always did seem like the Zaku's shield was on the wrong shoulder.
