>>23672709Wait is that what Hathaway wants? I thought he was fighting for illegal immigrants to Earth.
>>23672709>>23672757He wants everyone to leave Earth. Although he isn't pulling a Char and attempting to destroy Earth/kill everyone. He's going after Federation higher ups to break it apart.
>>23672757Basically he thinks Char was fundamentally right about a lot of things but also tried to hurt the wrong people to achieve those goals. I think he likes to think he's doing what Amuro maybe would've wanted to if he didn't have to spend his entire life stopping genocidal madmen from making things worse instead of actually improving things. There's something to be said for the tragedy of how many good people had to fight for the fairly questionable Earth Federation in order to fight against catastrophically worse things. All the time, energy and lives spent stopping Zeon could've gone to something that actually improved everyone's lot.

Tomino rolling in his grave right now
>>23672757>>23672929He wants the Federation to do what the Universal Century was coined for more than a century ago, for humans to go to space and let the Earth and nature heal with minimal human presence. The current Earth Federation government does not want to do that anymore. Mafty is trying to force this not by dropping an asteroid or a colony, but by directly killing Feddie officials whom they consider corrupt to try to shake up the system.
>>23672870>>23672957If they brighten the battles it would expose how shitty they actually look
>>23672760>He wants everyone to leave EarthIn Tomino's mind, that means humanity must be eradicated. Haven't you watched Ideon or Dunbine? Or even heard the kind of bullshit Scirocco kept saying in Zeta?
>cheatingDropped.
>>23672757Hathaway knows Earth isn't enough for every human. Char said "It's fucked up that humanity will forever fight itself when they are put on either side of a line. As long as there is a difference between 'Earthnoids' and 'Spacenoids' there's gonna be war, so let's get everyone on the same side of the line by making everyone into a spacenoid!" This is probably not his full sincere belief, but it's what he taught his followers to get soldiers. Hathaway heard this and thought "That's almost right, but there are poor abused people on Earth too. They are not uniformly 'the elite' trying to assert power over the poor spacenoids. It's really just The Federation that is setting us up for forever wars so I'll just do a terrorism against them specifically."
>>23673067>This is probably not his full sincere beliefBecause his sincere belief is that existence itself is sin and all life should be eradicated.Fucking new age hippies, we should've banned Japan from making sci-fi stories after the sarin gas attack and executed Tomino via firing squad to prevent these garbage stories.

I was promised gigi's pussy hair but I'm increasingly afraid we won't be getting it. tomino would have shown it full frontal but modern directors aren't based enough for that kind of thing. they'll hide it with "artistic" camera angles and the most we'll get to see is some out of focus shit or a shot of her when she's like an inch tall on the screen.
>>23673765>Amuro Ray, the Federation's child soldier, the Federation's sample that led to the torture of a multitude of war orphans under the CyberNewtype programDon’t use crap from Fukui’s Gundam, Zeon was already experimenting with using Newtypes for warfare with Lalah and Challia Bull. In Zeta itself it was mentioned how the Titans were emulating Zeon’s tactics (as if them piloting Not-A-Zakus wasn’t obvious enough). Why should Char be given a pass even though he’s directly responsible for Haman Karn and her Neo Zeon and basically fucked off while the AEUG and Karaba got folded into the Federation leading to Londo Bell? “Oh well he actually rose up to the people’s wishes” yes by essentially enacting a dipshit plan that would’ve led to nothing because the Feddies were already moving to space. >>23689065Any screen you use at your home is vastly inferior to the $3 million dollar IMAX digital laser projectors used by Bandai. Thats the type of projector the Director used to calibrate Hathaway's brightness levels to the lowest levels possible the projector can output but still be visible. It a stupid creative decision, but whatever. So unless you are watching Hathaway in IMAX theaters, then you will never see Hathaway as it was intended to be watched. You are still missing details.
>>23688988>>23688993>>23689053>200%lol, get an eye surgery.
>>23689133This how most IMAX movies are made nowadays. The CSM movie has the same level of calibration making some scenes hard to make out on lower monitors unless you get it in SD
>>23689133>>23689179Standard peak brightness used in mastering for home HDR is multiple times brighter than a theatre projector is capable of outputting, even the fanciest ones. The viewing environment is also different of course, so it's not apples to apples to begin with. The home media grade is also never the same as the theatre grade as a result, you just can't do that.
>>23686857he has a cute gf.
>>23689187>Standard peak brightness used in mastering for home HDR is multiple times brighter than a theatre projector is capable of outputtingLmao. No. The IMAX Projector is 80,000 lumens. Your $2000 dollar 4K TV isn't getting anywhere close to that. >The home media grade is also never the same as the theatre grade as a result, you just can't do that.Which is why it was stupid for the Director calibrate Hathaway to match IMAX movie theaters. It means anything less than IMAX equipment will not be showing all the details of the scene. So stupid.
>>23689201He was spiritually unfaithful to her
>>23688988it's not a brightness problem it's the fact that everything was gray at the end... gray pilot outfits, gray shading, gray MS, gray background
>>23689369>IMAX Projector is 80,000 lumensThat's not the peak brightness of the image reflected back at you, dumbass.
>>23689369IMAX screens lose like 80% of that light from reflecting, so that it is already down to 16k Lumens. You are also further from the screen, which makes it look darker than it would be at the 10ft from your TV in your living room. It's not as much of a difference as you think. This is also ignoring how OLEDs have perfect blacks (which projectors cannot do), and that means you don't need as much light to peak relative to that to make it seem as bright to your eyes.
>>23689084"I did watch it in HDR, you're wrong, it looks like shit!">Takes HDR signal, but is 6 bit FRC, or only 8 bit>Edge lit panel or dogshit low zone count FALD>Not even HDR1000 or HDR400 True Black>HDR isn't setup in OS or TV correctly>Video isn't even in HDRTo be fair VESA has done nothing to make HDR uncomplicated, or sue fake HDR claims.CCA's HDR grading was also hilariously bad. pic related.
>>23689658Yeah nothing below HDR 1000 or HDR400TB counts as HDR. I think TV manufacturers were just hoping for a new "3D" gimmick. Also bad HDR gradings are the worst.
>>23689639Look man, this is just cope. You are trying to downplay IMAX by turning it into a living room TV math problem and that makes zero sense. IMAX engineers are not accidentally losing 80 percent of their light and then shrugging about it. They blast absurd amounts of light on purpose because they are lighting a screen the size of a building. After losses it is still insanely bright across your entire vision, not a little rectangle in front of your couch.Sitting farther back does not magically make it dim in the way you are implying. The screen is massive and fills most of your field of view. Your eyes and brain do not care that your OLED can hit higher nits on a spec sheet when it only covers a small chunk of what you see. IMAX hits you with brightness everywhere at once. That is why it feels intense instead of just “nice.”Yes OLED has perfect blacks. Cool. That does not suddenly make it better than IMAX. IMAX is not chasing perfect blacks in a pitch black living room. It is about scale, motion, and sustained brightness across a wall sized image for two to three hours straight. OLED literally cannot do that without dimming itself. If OLED was actually “better” than IMAX, directors would just master everything for TVs and be done with it. They do not. Nolan, Villeneuve, Cameron, all of them still choose IMAX because nothing else gives that level of immersion. Your OLED might look cleaner in a dark scene. IMAX makes you feel like you are inside the movie. That is the whole point.
>>23689658I hope you realize that your media player software actually needs to configured to play HDR files properly. Even if you have all the hardware, it's not on by default. You know it's not enabled when you get a dim and desaturated grey-ish image m. The same issue happened months ago when anons were posting images from the 4K HDR Directors cut of the Gundam Seed Freedom movie.
>>23689741>I hope you realizedid you push up your glasses while writing that? don't patronize me>I can’t really say what went wrong here, but I can take some guesses. For one thing, nothing is lost in the grade, meaning black levels aren’t crushed beyond belief, and the highlights are all intact, but basically everything in the middle is in this weird low contrast purgatory. The result is a drab, desaturated transfer that barely exceeds 500 nits or so, even at its brightest moments. There’s also a bit of a green tint in the midtones, and a blue tint overall. I checked the colors out a few different ways to make sure this wasn’t some HDR signaling issue; one in MPC with SDR Tonemapping enabled, another in DaVinci Resolve outputting to an LG CX OLED display over a Decklink Monitor card (both in HDR and converted SDR), and once more with a Roku Ultra hardware-decoding the file directly to the TV. In all instances, the image was lackluster.>Going back to DaVinci Resolve, I skimmed around the movie and looked for areas of extreme highlights (explosions, flashes, glowing effects, etc). These are reliable references for maximum brightness in an image, because they are supposed to completely blow out. As I said above, the film rarely exceeds 500 nits of brightness, with the majority of the image sitting in the well below 300 nits. Knowing that most HDR masters are graded to a roughly 1000nit spec, it can be safely assumed that there was a LOT of headroom for this grade to be pushed up. For reference, the CX (and most consumer OLEDs) can hit about 700-800nits in ideal conditions, with LCDs going quite a bit higher, but the standard expectation for a professional colorist is 1000nits.
>>23689750Yeah I get what you are saying about nit levels and midtone issues and you are right that the movie’s grading is weird. Hathaway definitely lives in that mid-tone purgatory where most of the image is dark and muted and the highlights never fully pop like a typical HDR master. That is a creative decision by Sunrise and the Director not the fault of IMAX or the theater. Theaters are just showing it as intended which exposes these grading choices more than an OLED can.Watching it at home on an OLED will make it look better in terms of brightness and punch because OLEDs can boost contrast and take advantage of their per-pixel blacks. That does not mean IMAX is doing anything wrong. It is just that the movie itself has a very low overall luminance desaturated midtones and some subtle tinting that was not corrected in the grade. IMAX is literally just showing the movie’s grading faithfully at massive scale. So yeah it is a dark and sometimes flat-looking movie and a lot of fans notice it. The takeaway is that it is not the hardware it is the creative master and how the film was graded. IMAX is just giving you the pure cinematic version of what the colorists intended. If you want it brighter or more punchy OLED is giving you a fixed version that the filmmakers never actually intended for theaters.
>>23689770thanks chat gpt
>>23689734That has nothing to do with the perceived brightness of a display. You are talking about the immersion that you get from a display filling your whole vision. We are arguing about how Hathaway's Flash isn't too dark when viewed in proper HDR.
>>23674140Are you 80/tomino? A mecha anime with no action is cancer and you're a faggot. The first movie delivered and it should deliver again on the action. It doesn't need to last half of the movie either. Nuances, mfs?fucking faggot.
>hurr why are night battles darkI remember why I quit /m/
>>23689658>>23689741Someone did a regrade of CCA that looks a lot better.I say this as someone watching on a mini-oled quantum dot display with a pretty good FALD zone count that I thought Hathaway's 4K HDR release looked fantastic on, via a Shield TV instead of Microsoft's astonishingly awful colour management.Hathaway is dark with intent, both major mobile suit clashes in the film are absolutely jaw-dropping with the right display setup. A good quality encode helps a lot too, the initial streaming versions were bitstarved. CCA was dark because whoever was re-grading seemed to just add higher highlights to the original grade, I think. It's a really weird approach and I really don't know how anyone signs off on it, even accounting for reference monitors not giving the same experience.
>>23689947>Are you 80/tomino?If he was Tomino, he'd be complaining that humanity isn't being actively exterminated every 5.6 seconds.

>supposing cash cow of Gundam>no talking about itWhat happening? I thinking UC was main Gundam money source? Maybe SEED bringing more money to Gundam acutally
>>23691925Spoken like someone who hasn't had to deal with poor "people"
If hathaway not beating sales of SEED Freedom then it is over
>>23692017no matter, we will have a good feast of voyeuring Gigi.enjoy while it lasts.
>>23691970Nobody talked about SEED Freedom either and its the top grossing Gundam movie ever.

>>23690144Tomino says that any color grade or sound mix he's not apart of doesn't count as official Gundam. He was not happy with several re-releases Sunrise did of his old work.
>>23691970>What happening? I thinking UC was main Gundam money source? Maybe SEED bringing more money to Gundam acutallyYou've been told this dozens of times already.Hathaway was so successful because of the Pandemic. People in Japan were stuck in their house for 1 to 2 years with everything closed. They wanted to get outside and DO something. ANY "decent" anime movie would succeed. It's not like Hathaway had some amazing story. Hathaway just happened to be there at the right place and right time when Japanese people wanted to vent their frustrations and go out. Once people got it out of their systems, Hathaway dropped off the radar because it doesn't have much staying power. The story is bleak, the main character is a goofy murderer, and the action is hard to see because it's so dark. The real money maker for Sunrise was Gundam Seed Freedom. It's the number 1 Gundam movie in the entire world and surpassed all records. And it didn't need the artificially boost of a pandemic to do it. People are STILL talking about Seed Freedom 1 year after it came out.
>>23692275>The real money maker for Sunrise was Gundam Seed Freedom. It's the number 1 Gundam movie in the entire world and surpassed all recordsSeed Freedom literally only did well in Japan it flopped or had very little presence everywhere else. >People are STILL talking about Seed Freedom 1 year after it came out.Lmao
>>23692275I lurk JPN twitter and even they have move on from GSF. Last year was all about GQUUXXX which was the most popular Gundam anime in terms of twitter discussion due to the influx of newfags that got into it and how much it got slammed for being shit.
>>23692280>Seed Freedom literally only did well in JapanSeed Freedom made double the box office amount that Hathaway earned. And Freedom absolutely destroyed Hathaway in Blu-ray and gunpla sales. If you are going to lie, then at least pick something that isn't so easy to check.
>>23692285Are you illiterate? All that is sales in Japan like I fucking said. GSF was only a hit in Japan it wasn't some worldwide phenomenon like other recently released anime movies or even GQ which actually did well in markets outside Japan unlike GSF.
>>23692285>Anon just wanted to shit on Hathaway so bad that he didn't even read the post
>>23692283Wow! Japanese brain like ants
>>23692285>A whole line of HGs, multiple that are new versions of already evergreen kits, outsold the Xi and Penelopewow
>>23692286>GSF was only a hit in Japan it wasn't some worldwide phenomenonCope. Still made more money than Hathaway. How much money did Hathaway make in Australia? Oh wait it was never released in theaters outside Japan. Lmao.
>>23692299Xi and Penelope are shitFukuda > tomino
>>23692343>Oh wait it was never released in theaters outside JapanIt did
>>23692285Lol it didn't beat hathaway in Blu-ray sales. Nice try.
>>23692270Trolling used to be believable
>>23692017keeping highest grossing gundam film ever as a bar for success is retarded.
>>23693699Then it is over for hathaway
>>23692382It did have some screenings but it never had a proper theatrical run overseas because they released it on streaming only a month after the Japanese premiere.
I would legitimately want an asap Netflix drop like the first one so I don't have to wait or not go to a fucking theatre. Give me the Gigi titti in peace.
>>23692275>The real money maker for Sunrise was Gundam Seed Freedom. It's the number 1 Gundam movie in the entire world and surpassed all records.why do Japanese audiences have no taste I'm so sick of Freedom Gundams

>>23700592
plot of the 2nd film summed up in one picture.
>>23673076Full Frontal was literally just Char's urge to fight divorced from the rest of his emotions. The only reason why that part of him even still exists is that he shed it the moment he and Amuro went Beyond The Time. Char genuinely did believe that humanity being on Earth is what made them evil because he knew that the Newtype collective conscious would keep people from wanting to go to war. If anything, Full Frontal being a genocidal nihilist has more to do with the fact that the Newtype dream (the source of Char's will to fight) was well and dead by the events of Unicorn.

I'm quite surprised they still haven't dropped the first movie on youtube even after five years have already passed since its release.

>>23709048I disagree. Problem is this adaption is almost certainly going to have to honor canon in ways the source never did, so it's probably going to lose that Hathaway's fate was as a martyr and figure of inspiration
