I am feeling the friction between the director and writer that I hear so much about in season 2. The last parts of season 2 feel incredibly well constructed and paced - which is the handiwork of a director - but incredibly flat thematically and like they come from another series entirely. I think this lets it down since Tomino had far more consistent draftsmanship across the boardI wish we had more AU or even UC tv anime that wasn't moeblob Lanced Jack tripe, it took me a long while to watch this because I was upset it's just not common outside of the movies or ovas anymore

The structure is solid. I don't mind normies supplanting an excursion into UC with this since it does a lot of the things og Gundam did really well, but that leaves it a little anaemic regarding it's own identity.
