The first /m/ thread of the year was a Xabungle thread, and its last thread of the year is going to be an L-Gaim thread. It's the second-last show left on my quest to understand Tomino.
Definitely still rocking most of the great humor from Xabungle, even with all of Dunbine having come in between.
>>23691915It's still 2025 for another few moments in my kingdom
>>23691922Hence why OP proclaimed it the last thread of the year
Oh hey, I didn't get gazumped by some petty anon in the last 10 minutes. Shocking.
>>23691915This is actually gonna be one of the first shows I’ll be watching this year and I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing it
Not gonna screencap it because it's something that needs a gif, but LOL at the scene of Leecee's dope slap ping-ponging a guy in zero G.
>>23691931Grow a thicker skin.
>>23691931Well if you weren't then you're sure as fuck gonna now, you giant pussy
>>23691931>>23691915one of my all-time faves, enjoy anons
>>23691940whoops, had meant to include (You) in my earlier postas compensation, please enjoy this chemical warfare lilith (and the show, it's a lot of fun)
I like it enough to potentially rewatch the whole thing (it's been a decade) BUT it has to be the blu-ray rips.
>>23691915>>23691917>>23691931>Bunnyhatdidn't somebody upload a less blurry and crispier encode on nyaa?
>>23692130Which one?
Well there's one scene that got recycled for Zeta.
>>23692390That’s a good shot
A reminder that this is post-Star Wars sci-fi after having spent the last few months with Nagahama shows.
UhhhhhhhhhIs that even what Leccee says in Japanese?
I don't get why they only have Lilith talk in comic relief cuts. Are they just that ashamed of using the same seiyuu for her and Leecee?
>>23693784They follow this up in the OVA. Also do you really think Japan doesn't have a concept of trannies? These subtitles are from over a decade ago from the long dead Daisuki streaming service.
Note to self, the landspeeders are called "Flossers".
>>23693788It's a kids show, so I assumed it wouldn't be polite society to talk about stuff like that.
I feel like the mechfighting isn't that much better than the pits of Dougram. They've just gotten rid of most of the travelling projectiles for lasers, added more special effects, and using the Votoms trick of having mechs slide around the ground to avoid animating them running as much.
>>23693794Polite society in Japan is everyone goes to see crossdressing theater performances and then jack off to Ranma.
>>23693802Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
>>23693787she starts talking more as the show progresses
>>23693794This show featured guys kissing guys. Specifically Daba and his hanger-on.
On Youtube there was a cover or an additional album track of Time for L-Gaim that was an instrumental with electric guitar solo loosely replacing the vocals, but it was removed last year. Anyone know it?
L-gaim is fucking amazing. I'm glad more of /m/ appreciates this series.
>>23693826that was great in the ovas when the guy who dresses like Zeta Gundam tried to trick the one guy into being gay jokes on you he's already gay, now YOURE extragay!
So at what point am I supposed to watch the OVAs?
Buying a hi-tech space yacht with automated weapons for personal pleasure. Talk about conspicuous consumption.
Reusing the "Rag crushing on Katakam" story point from Xabungle, but with Amu and Stella.
And Gablae is just Hola with several of Timp and Bern's hangups.
So far I just feel bored. Some good jokes from time to time, but otherwise it's a lot of forgettable that makes me wish I was watching Xabungle again. When does the show get interesting?
He was right
>>23695173filtered
>>23691915Started with the best Tomino series, ending with the worst. Sasuga.
>>23695256Dunbine is fucking joyless.
When did Daba become so invested in being a rebel? I know he has a personal grudge for the army destroying his hometown, but I don't think was ever a point where he said he was putting his grudge above his distrust of Amandara and Stella. Feels like they skipped a step in his character motivation.
Please stop reading the script directly to the audience.
Kills me that Sunrise released an upscale "remaster" and not a rescan of the film stock, which was very publicly transferred to TOHO archive after Tokyo Labs went under a few years back. Preservation is dead, de-grained upscales won.
>>23695261That’s why it’s called a sad/tragic tomino show, L.gaim is happy tomino and so is Dunbine’s predecessor Xabungle
Oh hi motivational backfill.>>23695512Your post says nothing. Dunbine was boring as shit and I didn't care about anyone or anything happening in it and I sincerely wished that Tomino had gotten his skull smashed open with an aluminum bat.
>>23695581Goddamn I was only trying to say it’s a somber show This is relevant because I’m watching Dunbine now actually for the first time
>>23695641Then why not talk about it
>>23695321No wonder his VA didn't get much further roles.
Oh hey, MAHQ recapped this show all the way back in 2005. This should help me remember what happens.https://www.mahq.net/lgaimmain/
>five planet solar system>PentagonaOh, now I get it.
Hi Giorgio!
love me lgaim
Scirocco as hell.
Well this is just a bizarre line out of nowhere.Congratulations, now you've probably spoiled a later reveal. Why the fuck can't Tomino shows just be normal?
>>23692130You never gave an answer.
>>23695305Ironically, Daba would NOT have opposed Posaydal's regime if Olibee hadn't been abducted and brainwashed. He didn't even know he was from the Yaman Clan until his adopted father died earlier and revealed it to him. Daba is actually very manipulative and scheming for a 1980s mecha protagonist. If you watch the series through the lens of someone whose read Romance of the Three Kingdoms, A Song of Ice & Fire, the Rome TV series, or any other sociopolitical drama, Daba uses people. He's not a coward and is willing to fight in the front lines. He actually does care about people, it's just that he prioritizes himself and Olibee and his friends. He also saw that Stella was too reckless as a rebel leader. That's why even though he was distraught that when Stella died, he had to take over, else the rebellion would've been dead in its tracks. By taking over, Daba was killing 2 birds with 1 stone; oppose Posaydal for the dissident factions and gain revenge. Also speaking of Amandara, it was very refreshing to see an arms supplier openly acknowledge that he was "a merchant of death" as Daba called him out for. I don't think Daba distrusted Amandara because of deeper motivations so much as he initially saw him as double-dealing; he was a mirror to Daba. Amandara was quite willing to sell to rebels AND the Posaydal military because it helps his profits and fuels the military-industrial complex. >>23696675Having seen Zeta Gundam years before I saw L-Gaim, I see Scirocco as a very pale imitation of Posaydal. No wonder the Japanese didn't react well to Zeta and ZZ in 1985 and 1986. It was totally unlike the original Mobile Suit Gundam because Tomino and Sunrise inserted L-Gaim elements (and Dunbine with battle aura) in a UC setting.
>>23692390I'm probably one of the biggest L-Gaim fans. I like Five Star Stories but L-Gaim was the prototype and frankly I like it more. The only thing that I wish was that we got a Posaydal prequel. Also I admittedly liked Amandara as a character. Him bring "apolitical" was refreshing though we also know why. I really dislike how Zeta recycled L-Gaim.
>>23696922I'm not responding to you unless you can solidly prove that you're neither Duel nor Zetarager.
Maybe try bribing your enemies with all that gold you use to incentivize people to stick around.
Behaved like Katakam crossed with Glemy, went out like he was Woody.
>>23696979Who the hell is Duel or Zetarager?I still have fond memories of Zeta Gundam. But after watching L-Gaim, I feel cheated. They rehashed it in a UC Gundam series. The same for ZZ.
>>23696979He's not but he says the same shit about Posaydol being better than Scirocco every single thread. It's not actually true, because even Scirocco would never trust an idiot like Gablae.
This episode is way too concerned with gender. For fuck's sake, please start writing Amu and Leccee with motivations broader than stereotypes.
Rrrrrrrrrgh...
>>23697170I agree. Gablae was a clusterfuck. Why did Posaydal allow him in the military? Another destabilizing element as a pawn?
>>23697297Why did Jerid stick around until Zeta's second-last episode?
>>23697170NtA but I think they're pretty even. Posaydal actually won his original war against the Yaman clan which at least puts him 1-0 against Scirocco, but Scirocco had a good purchase of his Titans as opposed to Posaydal who had to deal with:>Gisawa's Elite 13>Full Flat's Theart Star amazons>Gavlet's Galavanters
Was Leccee's hair always half-red, half-brown like this?
Nevermind it was the lighting. >you must wait longer before deleting this postIT'S BEEN ALMOST TEN MINUTES
>>23697319Posaydal allowing Giwaza that kind of unchecked power is retarded. More than Gablae. More than Olibee.
>>23697319>>23697454>Gisawa>GiwazaHow's it supposed to be spelled?
>>23692130>>23692294>>23696709There's two encodes of the BD release which in someways looks way better than the old DVD release; but on the flipside it was mastered by QTEC so all the grain and a bunch of the detail was crushed by heavy DNR. https://slow.pics/s/feHm4EG9?image-fit=containIt'd be a pipedream if someone like Discotek could get their hands on the original 16mm and do proper work to it like they did on Digimon Adventure. https://imgur.com/a/B5QtKgB
>>23697470Giwaza is the official romanization. It's what they've used in SRW and the Diasuke subs of L Gaim.
You're forgiving a guy who killed his boss and tried to sell you out to Gavlet not even ten minutes ago.
>>23697309Jerid remains a loyal Titan until the end while Gablae's stupidity actively undermines everyone around him and he has the discipline of a cat.
I probably need to watch more mecha, but this guy's introduction of drifting in space having failed to escape a space station reminds me of how G-Witch started.
>>23697170>>23696922 herePosaydal's problem was that he reached the top and didn't know what to do afterwards. He conquered the Pentagona System and then fumbled the ball. But Scirocco? EVERYTHING about the dude screams, "Don't trust this bastard"...and yet Jamitov took Scirocco's blood oath as surety. Scirocco has nowhere near the experience or victories that Posaydal (when he was young). And everyone in Zeta is pretty much pants-on retarded for the plot to advance. For Posaydal, remember his age is somewhere in the 90s? but the biorelation keeps him young. But he probably mentally got stagnant and too complacent. Even Full Flat said it herself that she got bored with eternal youth. Posaydal fucked around too much but you can chalk that up to senility and not being hungry as he was in his youth. Scirocco was a dipshit who could manipulate weak-minded people. Only Scirocco's Newtype abilities give him any caliber. And Posaydal didn't get watermelon crash'd like Scirocco did here >>23697319. Posaydal was VERY close to winning. He was just too arrogant and like >>23697454 said, he didn't keep proper checks & balances on his underlings.
>>23697399In the early episodes it was definitely bright red. But you could definitely see more shades of brown by the mid-point. And then when she returned after serving Posaydal's personal fleet, her hair was more auburn. I kinda chalked that up to her natural hair color changing (which does happen in your teen years) and also foreshadowing that Leccee was definitely getting more edgier.
Does L-Gaim's action ever improve, or did Takahashi and Kawamori scoop up all the competent mecha fight choreographers and never let go of them until Layzner got cancelled?
Okay this is just amusing.
>>23698193Posaydal's problem is he's barely in the show where he's the main villain. Even his backstory was crammed into the episodes added after an extension was added.
>>23698299Yeah I know. I really wish they had expanded more on his backstory. The final episode mentioning that the Yaman tortured and killed his parents came out of left field.
>>23696675i still have no idea what this means
>>23698478>The final episode mentioning that the Yaman tortured and killed his parents came out of left field. That might be total bullshit and Daba even says so. But also, Amandara isn't doing anything out of revenge or ideal or anything: he just wants to sail around on his space-coke yacht, be young forever, sell guns and bang teenage girls. He's one of my favorite Tomino antagonists because by the time he actually starts acting directly things have gone so far afield from his original plans that he seems like he'd do anything to make Mian just shut up already.
>>23698531>he just wants to sail around on his space-coke yacht, be young forever, sell guns and bang teenage girlsHonestly this makes a whole lot of sense. Posaydal is probably the first conqueror who took a sabbatical. He probably got tired of ruling and just wanted to fuck around without the burdens of state. I mean wouldn't you want to do what he did if you had eternal youth and just conquered a star system?
>>23698225L-Gaim is Studio 2, who did Xabungle and Dunbine prior. Studio 1 who did Gundam, Ideon, Dougram, and Votoms; had the better talent. Though part of it was two of the better animation leads, Yoshikazu Yasuhiko and Tsukasa Dokite, were both working on Giant Gorg at the time with some of the other talent being split between Panzer World Galient and Zeta's pre-production.
>>23698524she's shooting, brother!
>>23698734Dougram was kinda shit with fight choreography. I'm glad it kept what was happening coherent, but man were there so many superjumps.Xabungle was actually pretty great, thanks to how much of it operated on cartoon physics, how fun the Walker Gallier's weaponry was, and the Iron Gear being a thing. Really does feel like it's a case of animation directors. A lot of Ideon's fighting was forgettable unless it was an Itano episode. And then the Macross productions snapped the guy up and never let go of him. Did he do anything for Orguss or the other two Robotech shows, or was it all just DYRL after Macross and Be Invoked?
>>23698782Itano? Right after Macross he did Crusher Joe, Megazone 23, and Royal Space Force. After which he's mostly just been a 1-off kinda guy showing up for things like Macross Plus and Zero. He did spend a good amount of time training new animators in his style, which is part of the reason you see the Itano Circus with relative frequency these days. Itano also reuinted with his teacher, Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, to work together on Gundam The Origin Episode 1 together. He's one of the main contributors to the opening battle and why it just works so well. He also did a lot of work with Yaz on teaching the staff what they needed to do to make CG Mecha work.
>>23698808>He also did a lot of work with *Yas on teaching the staff what they needed to do to make CG Mecha work. Was he on Aquarion?
>>23698812No, most of the CG work can be credited to Eiji Inomoto who did GitS:SAC, Code Geass: Akito The Exiled, Fafner, Macross Frontier, and basically everything at Studio Orange. I don't think the two of them ever shared any history together but I also haven't checked too hard into it as Itano may have done work on an episode of Frontier.
>>23698835And the efforted scenes for Majestic Prince? No, wait, I can look that up myself. Yes, he did.
>>23698847No, wait, fuck, it was actually Takayuki MIyakoda. Who also did grunt work for Aquarion, Akito and Tiger & Bunny.
>>23698847>>23698850Miyakoda has worked for/with Orange a lot over the years. So him and Inomoto have a pretty solid track record together.
Wait, Endo wasn't on the L-Gaim staff. What's the Rosamia 2 plot doing here?
Oh hey, Leccee did something useful.
No, I'm pretty sure they are slaves. This show's going for that same "under the influence of evil's dominion" nonsense that Dunbine and Zeta was drowning in.
It took until almost 19 minutes in to finally say not-Ben Wooder's name.
>>23698742Dan stop talking about wrestling.
Daba are you stupid, that's only more reason to shoot them down.
Holy shit why do I have to be stuck with you as the protagonist of this show. You know who killed her mom and you know she's probably working with him, but noooooo, we can't stain the hands of a pretty girl with murder even though she's a demonstrably competent pilot.
WHAT ARE PHYSICS
>>23699434I legit think there's supposed to be something different about how gravity works in that star systemthere's a consistent weirdness that's beyond just normal anime jumping and stuff
>>23698478>The final episode mentioning that the Yaman tortured and killed his parents came out of left field. It's supposed to tie into how Daba going into exile is him breaking the cycle of one revolutionary turned dictator replaces another. Posaydal also mentions he chose Daba and Gablae to be his successors so clearly he's a bit stupid too.
>>23699441Stop namefagging.

>>23699445>Posaydal also mentions he chose Daba and Gablae to be his successorsWait what? He exterminated the yaman why would he want Daba to succeed? And we don't talk about Gablae
>>23699538I dunno. Watch the final episode again. It seems like he was positioning Daba, Gablae, and the girls to be under his control in his game so long as it eliminated Giwaza and possibly Full Flat.
>>23697224>he hasn't met women irl
>>23699449first time on /m/ huhembarrassing

>>23699624Yeah this is the episode where it's a stretch to believe Amandra was skillfully manipulating things behind the scenes.
Kyao using a mechajack as an opportunity for recruitment.
>>23699626Can you please stop talking about stuff that apparently takes until episode forty-fucking-two to find out about when I'm still on episode 26? Spoilerblocking is a thing, you know.
Wow, you're not even a character and I now immediately wish you would die.
Dismissing the risk Leccee's in because of her attitude.
Why the hell won't you just kill Gablae, he won't stop pursuing you until he's dead.
HE'S FULLY CONSCIOUS.
"A man's pride is incomprehensible to women!"Fuck this show.
YOU OWE HIM NOTHING!!!!
You people are the worst.
You have zero sense of self-preservation.
You do that all the time, almost always against orders, even in spite of your lack of piloting ability!
KNEE IMPULSE KICK!
Moral of the story: Every episode written by Sukehiro Tomita is now going to be approached as a threat to my sanity. There's still five more episodes from him I have yet to get to.
Well isn't this a sudden about-face. Gee, I wonder if it's because there's a completely different writer working on this episode.

>>23699562So he'd want them to be his stand-ins while he operates in the shadows?

>>23699921Gablae is the kind that falls in and out of love easily. Its in character.
>>23700781I'd rather be watching a show that gives a crap about continuity and deletes bad ideas like the entirety of episode 27.
>>23700785I see you strongly dislike all the gender essentialist rhetoric in the show which is a classic Tomino-ism. I agree its grating when the characters are going on about a mans pride or how women and men will never understand certain things about each other but I actually think its sweet in how it ties into Leccee's characterization. Shes a straight edged and professional soldier but she struggles with how that image of herself interferes with her humanity (or how the show frames it, womanhood). Joining Daba and rebelling against Posaydal is her way of staying true to her own feelings as a woman (and as a human in the more general sense). She doesnt want become the kind of cold hearted person that kills someone she could have loved like Daba just because its her duty and she doesnt want to become someone that kills a defenseless person that cant fight back anymore just because they are the enemy. Its a refusal to be redefined by the systems of war that dehumanizes people and cheapens the value of life. Its why you can say of Leccee that shes really a sweet girl despite all the war and killing shes done, because war is not what defines her.
>>23700800I'd rather just have Elche, Maria and Birin back than have to read between the lines of characters I don't enjoy spouting lines I utterly hate.
I don't like what I'm watching, but I don't want to watch anything else. It's what trapped me into watching Dunbine - I downloaded the whole thing and felt obligated to watch it all before I was allowed to take it off my hard drive.
God I'm bored.
>>23700960Reading between the lines is what you have to do to enjoy any Tomino show. You have to remember character eccentricities and pay attention the the slightest thing they say or do to get the most out of it, otherwise it will be underwhelming.
>>23691915Solid show. Truly one of the dumbest endings ever.
>>23701030But usually when I do read between the lines, the stuff I get out of it is Tomino being a death cultist. Shit like Doba saying the universe giving him daughters instead of sons drove him to a zen of destroying all humanity, or Katejina wanting to kill all women so she can have all the men to herself.
Wait is that really reading between the lines, or just repeating what they literally said
Why the fuck do Tomino shows have to be so obtuse
Why doesn't Daba have a self-preservation instinct?
"I need to calm down and stop posting like an attention whore," posted the attention whore to the anime imageboard.
Shouldn't you be saying "The Spirit is empty"?
>>23701045>>23701048Thats just because you focused on the antagonist characters. If you focus on what the protagonists are doing theres some nice character bits to be found, like how Karala and Sheryl act as each others foils and develop as characters as a result of that conflict and how Marbet and Shrike team want to treat Usso like family to make up for having him fight a war.L-Gaim is pretty nice too in that regard outside of that one pretty misogynist moment in an episode you havent watched yet but I swear its full of cute moments when you pay attention to Amu and Leccee.
The show started off really scared to give Lilith many lines because of the seiyuu casting, but eventually they just ended up making in-jokes with the whole situation. Amusing turn of events.
Tomino being full nutjob with this line.
And this is just Victory Gundam.
And this is literally a line Scirocco gives in Zeta episode 21.
You did this 14 episodes ago and never felt an explanation was necessary. Why now?
So I'm realizing that the Gundam fanbase has never watched anything else from Tomino and just arrogantly assumes L-Gaim is lighthearted because of the stereotype that "Tomino follows every lighthearted show with a funny one". Dunbine to ZZ seems like one unbroken string of Tomino madness whose only weird spot is the first third of ZZ where people behave like human beings with a range of feelings instead of a bunch of depressed people being miserable.
>"Posaydal created a clone as demonstration (that women weaken the willpower of men)".How did you know that, Daba? Did you read the script?
>>23702140L-Gaim is clearly a lunatic "funny one" though, Gablae for example stays more or less the same unlike Mashymre.
They say this is Leccee, but she honestly looks like a completely different character. Friggin inconsistent hair lighting.
All this lip about how she's going off to improve herself, and she still immediately loses to Gablae in their next encounter.
I've been reading posts on other websites speculating if Tomino is autistic.
Man they're really laying it thick that Quwasan is under mind control/possession by Posaydal. Yet it's 35 episodes in and somehow they still haven't explicitly stated that people can possess magic powers. Wonder how long that'll last. And also if this is yet another Dune reference.
Posting this for being an IMO weirdly rational thing for Daba to say.
See, this is what I'm more adjusted to getting expository foreshadowing from. Having high-ranking villains sowing the seeds for later details rather than the heroes just state things out of left field. Though maybe that's still a sign of an amateur, given this was the same way Haman explained Glemy was a scion of the Zabi Family as written by the fresh blood writer to ZZ?
Huh, a man taking a fatal blast for a woman. And they didn't even have a relationship, just a work acquaintance as fellow Elite 13 members.I don't know if me liking this episode is because it's actually a good one or if I've just calmed down and stopped rushing through the show like I did Dunbine. Maybe both.Either way, I'm keeping an eye on this writer's episodes. If my googling is correct, "Yoshie Kawahara" is actually a woman called Hiroshi Kazama who does behind-the-scenes grunt and publicity work for Sunrise.
>>23702692>woman called HiroshiYeah that's probably not correct.

>>23699538>He exterminated the yaman why would he want Daba to succeed?Because he doesn't want to be in charge the same way Daba doesn't: the difference is that Amandara is fine with enriching himself off the struggle: in story terms, let himself take Stella's money.

What's Kyao's backstory, and how long has he known Daba for?
I mean, this is a thing Daba's been about towards everyone, not just his half-sister. He refuses to kill enemies because he's sure they're just good people under the evil influence of Posaydal.
They make a deal about Daba getting his voice across through opening gaps in the armor plating, but 3 episodes ago he had a brief chat with Leccee through a magical bond when there was a starship hull separating them.
Tomino pissing off the channers here.
Planning an "Operation Stardust" involving dropping meteors on Sveto as camouflage for an atmospheric entry.
Continuity? In this show?!
Maybe part of my frustration with the first half of the show was how messy this fansub is. It's definitely not as bad as the one on wco, but there's still a bunch of times where it gets too literal or even lies about what's being said in gratuitous English.
Tried to pursue Giwaza out of suspicion, and ended up captured.
I assume this is what the Tassilo 2 subplot was trying to be.

Okay, this was a really smart maneuver from Daba. Stopping Full Flat's escape by making an opening in the vacuum for the Mk.II to depart through.
You're just letting her go. Despite how you have no idea what her agenda is beyond causing strife and personally manipulating you.Goddammit why does the show feel obligated to stick to the status quo like this
Tomino.
Can't you already pilot regular-size heavy metals?
Then why did you let her go
>>23703805yeah but this is cuter
Okay, stuff like this is really funny and helps show the line of descent for Mashymre 1.It's odd, but I really wish the show had given more focus to Olibee before now even though I usually detest Cyber-Newtype storylines. Though it helps in this case that she's under mind control by an actual personality and not the programming of faceless science that compells her to destroy everything in front of her - something that helped justify Elche's turn as villain right before she turned back to good.
>>23703836>Mashymre 1.I still want to know why they made the Zeta Gundam look like him
>>23703599It's a "Symbolized Computer," also known as a Fatima. A-Class Heavy Metals are said to contain them as some sort of improved computer. The L-Gaim MK-2(which got it's head from a wrecked Blood Temple, specifically the B. Temple No. 3, which had a unique head design compared to the other units, which where just proto-LED Mirages from Five Star Stories, but none of the Blood Temples actually show up in the anime) and Posaydal's Original Auge have visible Fatimas, while the Gayrahm and L-Gaim have them not shown, but are still stated/implied to have them in some media. The MK-2 has a fatima named either Maria, who looks more robotic due to being a prototype Fatima, or one named Fatis, who is a normal looking one, depending on which source you look at(Fatis came from the L-Gaim proto-Five Star Stories setting book, while Maria came from an early piece of concept art.)
>Amandara's original voice actor, Shinji Toyota, was replaced by Ryuichi Horibe late into the series due to the former's declining health.Oh, so that's why the character has so little screentime until episode 43.I wonder how many oddities in Tomino shows are specifically due to behind-the-scenes seiyuu stuff.
>>23703953yeah no small part of L-Gaim is "also this makes sense later when Nagano gets to make FSS/GTM"
>>23703953Keep in mind that none of this is in the series and in some ways is incompatible with what the show presents.
>>23704404It's all just stuff from FSS and Nagano's temper tantrums at being kicked off Zeta Gundam, I assume.
Okay I guess the big twist came at episode 44.And here I thought the twist would be that Lady Posaydal was just a figurehead like Maria in Victory Gundam and Amandara would be the real Posaydal.
And also we're back to the late Zeta territory with being incapable of telling what's Nei and Leccee's personal agency and what's the excuse of magic mind powers by a third party. This is going to be miserable, isn't it.
Really amusing here that Anton shares the same seiyuu as Scirocco.
>>23703953Before I read FSS, I theorized that the forehead silhouette represented the Jungian Shadow of Daba's and Posaydal's Id. One being elegant and classy (L-Gaim Mark 2) and the other being imposing and domineering (Original Auge)
>>23704468kek
>>23704513nah, just people in the noggin
I have no idea what happened in episode 45. Are the Mi Ferario also a starmind now?
Now the show's just frolicking in its own brand of strange. The kind of episodic silliness you'd expect from 70s shows.
Machismo
The fansub just completely forgot to transcribe this line. This show is in desperate need of a better sub.
Good moment, but I'd rather this happened sooner, and that the show hadn't been spinning its wheels for several episodes.
>>23705005In need of a better everything. Still don't understand how independent groups like Kineko manage to scan old reels and do insanely high quality releases, yet Sunrise/Bandai can't be bothered.
Did Giwaza deploy his battle maids yet?
>>23705098>>23704682
>>23705081The bigger the company, the bigger the jews
>>23705081Why would they translate for things they're not trying to sell outside their own nation?
Another observation out of nowhere.
Well that's a mouthful of a name.
Oh, so it was what I was thinking the twist was. Or there's a disagreement about what the story is in the writer's room.In any case, the subbers misheard Amandara in this scene and called him "Kandara" instead of "Kamandara".
For a Tomino show, L-Gaim has been really scared of killing off characters. It's the first of the last half-dozen episodes, and the only character it kills off is one of Giwaza's three subordinates/Nei's wingmen. When it took until five episodes ago to kill off Nei.
Oh, so this is where "biosensor" first showed up. No wonder it took so long for me to get its origin, it's from an entirely different show.
Man, there is nowhere on the internet that reliably states that Shinji Toyota was Amandara's CV for most of the show before he got recast.
Gablae just fumbling handing a bomb to Elaine and nearly getting himself and Flat killed.
Oddly reminded of Mayaya here.
Didn't expect Amu to ever get a win, Impressive.
Why didn't you take the Flicker out when you ejected from the D-Sserd.
Second last episode, and it's still trying to establish the power of tech that we've not really seen clearly.
A confrontation between almost all the significant players where a decisive moment is decided by a random butler. This show is weiiiiird.
Reminded of Kaworu explaining that AT Fields are the walls of the heart.
I wish Char or Scirocco had a downfall like this.
Somehow, some way, Giwaza has outlasted every other villain in the show.
Somehow these two jokers survived the show.
And this is just a crappy end pairing. Olibee showed way more humanity in her interactions with Gablae.
Dumb stuff like this is why I was welcome for Xabungle Graffiti's tacked-on joke ending.Well, I've finished the show. Somewhere in these 54 episodes is a really great story, mostly all the stuff around Flat, Mian and Amandara as well as Olibee's mostly unexplored story. But so much of it is buried in straight-up bad writing, go-nowhere plot threads, confused storytelling that feels like nobody could agree to what the narrative was behind the scenes, and so much goddamn episodic filler. Plus Daba is dull as dishwater most of the time in a way that infects everyone around him with blandness, and ironically it would've been better if he'd acted more like a holier-than-thou Shirou Emiya-type "save/redeem everyone in front of me" type rather than a generic protagonist. Though maybe that's just the episode count keeping everyone in an inflexible status quo for so long. Also man did Leccee just get shafted and mistreated throughout. For a show that ends in the abuses of men towards women being repaid in full, it really should have found a better way to treat her character.
Man I really hope I didn't shoo away everyone with my blogposting.
>>23706002>my sister is retarded so I will live on a planet with her all alone and nobody is allowed to visit ever and don't bother calling I'll unplug the phone>the endIt'll never make sense to me. He had two bitches that would've gladly helped out with Olibee in exchange for dick
So Tomino reused this for the Turn A ending
The JP Wiki page has funny anecdotes about how much Nagano and Tomino argued.>While Tomino accepted most of Nagano's ideas, he strongly opposed and scrapped the idea of the artificial human "Fatima" (the organic computing computer installed in the head of the original HM). Tomino was skeptical of fusing mechanical (mecha) and biological (human) elements. He believed that the story began with mecha (HM) as the main characters, and incorporating biological elements midway through would be tantamount to insanity and would confuse viewers.
>>23706159He was right. Luckily Nagano started off FSS with Fatimas from the beginning
>>23706159Sounds about right, I too would’ve been confused as to the how the “Fatima” just show up out of nowhere, FSS did it from the start which is good
>>23706159>>23706172>>23706220seems like it would have worked as long as there was like, a line or two explaining what was going on like "wow that new unit sure mogs the old shit, what's with that weird person looking hood ornament thing in its head" "oh, yeah, that's a person, we're using them as living assistants trapped inside" "breh"
In at least one episode, Daba does verbally command the Mk-II to do something but you wouldn't think that was anything more than a standard feature. Also the idea the head came from anywhere special is not addressed at all. At most you see it being hoisted on a crane while they're fixing up the busted Stack.
>>23706232The Original Auge attacks the Mk.II before Amandara is even in the cockpit
>>23706342Amandara calls it "bio-reactivity" but that could be anything vaguely Newtypish without establishing what a Fatima is.
>>23691915>main character not Gilliammissed op
>>23706386Who?
>>23706452
>>23706232>>23706342>>23706378I chalked it up to being in close proximity to the Bio-relation field of the Original Auge that Posaydal was able to fire that shoulder cannon by some kind of mental interface. The Mk-II incident did surprise me though. It wasn't until I got 4k rips of L-Gaim that I noticed in the 2nd Opening that you can actually see the red eyes of the Mark-2 quite clearly (the sequence where the head silhouette is featured prominently. I theorized the eyes glowing as some kind of residual remnants of Daba's psyche when he interfaces with the cockpit. At least in my head canon. >>23706002The manga has a better ending where Daba's friends refuse to let him live by himself. >>23706159He could've treated the Fatimas like an A.I. system like Rei from Layzner. That would've been a compromise.
>>23705081You see I really love L-Gaim. More than Five Star Stories because no L-Gaim means no FSS. It kills me that these unexplored ideas were never used. I have all of the L-Gaim artbooks and supplementary material. There's so much unexplored lore that wasn't fleshed out or explored in depth.
>>23706101Daba-Amu-Leccee was a parallel to Posaydal-Mian-Full Flat. Daba wanted to break that cycle. He was too afraid he was going to end up like Posaydal. One of the original drafts for L-Gaim's ending would've been Daba marrying Amu and then getting over thrown decades later just like what happened to Posaydal. But yeah you're right. He should've been like "Hey you guys stuck by me all this time. We'll live together, Kyao, Lilith, Amu, and Leccee." And not in fucking Koam like a hick but somewhere nice like Mizum.
>>23706615Is there a scan of the manga?
>>23706159Tomino wasn't wrong, but Nagano basically was right as well. Dude predicted the girl-shaped super technology interface trope there.
