How exactly is it a deconstruction? Just because a story is sad doesn't mean it is intentionally subverting anything. Stories of self-sacrifice in battle are extremely common not only in Japan but worldwide. Are those stories also "deconstructions?" Is the only "real" story the simple three act structure where everyone ends up happy?
