Tomino had to fight tooth and nail to get a film trilogy for Zeta, and even then he only got enough budget to actually redraw parts of them and had to reuse 20-year-old footage for the rest. That is, the Gundam that was ranked 2nd on the NHK poll.That watch order from Sunrise isn't an outlier. Japanese fans have come up with their own watch orders and most of the ones I've seen have suggested ZZ as optional, or saying outright to skip it and get the story for it from G Gen or SRW. Who is going to go see a half-baked theatrical version for it? Won't the fans who already like ZZ be pissed if it gets changed to be dark and serious the entire show? Would Tomino even allow that?
