Why Toei put so much effort and talent in Grendizer compared to Great Mazinger and Getter G?Great and G felt so lazy, repetitive, and uncreative and leaned towards comedy more than kaiju action and the monster designs were goofy childish doodles, while Grendizer had more serious writing and cool/badass mecha designs that compete with Grendizer itself. While Great and G were basic MOTW with little world building and basic one-note characters, Grendizer had deeper lore, bigger world, and the characters, both heroes and villains were fleshed out.It's crazy how much different Grendizer turned from its siblings in the same year.

What I like most bout disliking Grendizer is how mad some people get when you don't like Grendizer. Like they'd be less offended if you took a dump on their flag.

>>23718255I'd say both Great Mazinger and Getter Robo G are sequels ordered by the toy and anime manufacturer, which doesn't have as big a link with their original creators (you can notice the Go Nagai manga of Great Mazinger being pretty mediocre, and Getter G being half unfinished and had to get some gaps filled in the 90s).So my theory would be that they were mostly made to sell toys, or at least even more than the original version of their respective anime.Though that's just a theory, I have not watched Getter G yet, but I did watch Great Mazinger, and I did find that show to be worse than the original Mazinger.

I like Great Mazinger. Z had a certain vitality, creativity and effortless charm while Great feels more troubled, but it kind of works and the inner aspects are ultimately a bit more mature. I think it's a solid effort by Keisuke Fujikawa.Waiting for the Grendizer BDs.
