Just rewatched Narrative and there was a shot of the back of the Stein and can't get this little detail out of my mind. Why is there so much space between the thrusters at the top and the "wing" part? On the Sinanju the "wings" are what holds the thrusters together, but what's the point of this one

Maneuverability.

Because all those thrusters create a combined effect

Stein came after the Sinaju design. Hacktoki just handwaved it to look more like Nu Gundam which was what Sinaju was supposed to be based on.

Sinanju has this little opening up gimmick that open up the wings to engage the afterburner

it was also present with the initial Sinanju Stein release, but I haven't built the ver Narrative and the ver Narrative ver Ka. but if its what you say, I guess its a small design choice to differentiate Zoltan like to show Zoltan is always on the afterburner mode

Neat.

Why not have a single big thruster?

For what it's worth, the space seems way more pronounced on that model compared to the actual animation.

if you only have a single rocket engine and it overheats or gets damaged, you're fucked. a cluster of rocket engines is more complex but you get more control over total output as well as flexibility in thrust vectoring and directionality

need to save propellant? you can throttle your single big rocket engine, but there's a limit on how well you can control output (e.g., 1% or even 10% output isn't really an option) which is why real spacecraft have both small and large rocket thrusters. with many rocket engines, you have control in terms of both throttle AND groupings, you could just use 1 or 2 engines and shut down the rest.

want to perform fancy maneuvers? if you need to turn or move in a certain direction, you're forced to rotate entire MS (using AMBAC or small maneuvering thrusters) or the one large thruster itself (if it's mounted on a joint) so it points in the direction you need to thrust away from. thrust vectoring and multi-thruster array can allow easy pointing in multiple directions or one direction at the same time and change direction faster than with one large engine.

I found Sinanju Stein to be cooler than the regular Sinanju, especially the Narrative version with the changes made to it.
