-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobilephotoresizer

-= ACE CUSTOM GROUPBUILD =-

Build, customize, and paint a grunt mobile suit up for use by an ace pilot.
>You are taking the role of the Ace Pilot here - You're making the design choices when it comes to loadout, paint scheme, and suit customizations.
>Think about what your Ace specializes in, is he all in on offensive power, speed and maneuverability, or bulk and defense?
>While your pilot is an ace, he's not so special that he's getting super secret prototypes like Gundams or Mobile Armors. Keep your grunt relatively grounded to whatever setting it's from.

Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

If you do, buy it on Ali instead of a US webstore. USAGS is charging in the neighborhood of $220 for it, but on Ali you can pretty readily find it for $150 or so with free shipping and tariffs already included. Then you can use the leftover/saved money to buy the aftermarket photo etch and/or 3D printed resin parts for even more improved detail.

So basically only the ZZ Ver Ka can go G-Foretress as-is, without needing other kits? Guess I'll just hunt down an expansion for the Enhanced parts then
>>
>>23753527
They all can.
>>
>>23753527
Enhanced ZZ also can, just that the backpack is going to be sitting loose on the legs since the attachment points on the legs were removed for extra thrusters. As long as you're not trying to pose it upside-down though, it should be fine.

And technically, the MG FAZZ kit includes about 95% of the MG ZZ kit, just without the backpack or Hyper Beam Saber blades. I have no idea if the FAZZ's backpack facilitates the transformation (hard to imagine that it wouldn't since all you do is detach it from the back and then swing it down over the back of the legs), but since all the other parts of the ZZ are included you can reproduce the vast majority of it.

Excuse the newbie question, when painting a kit, do you guys prime it with a can (or by other means) or paint directly onto the model usually? I’ve seen both done, but just wanted more opinions on the matter.
>>
>>23753749
Spraying is pretty common but I do it with a brush. I do the latter because I don't want to buy cans as often.
>>
>>23753749
Always prime. Plastic, especially the one used with Bandai and Kotobukiya kits, takes paints very poorly. Primer provide proper grip for the paint and prevents chipping off later. Difference between primed and bare plastic surfaces is so great it's not even funny. Technically, lacquers, being chemically aggressive, will "bite into" surface so they could pass off without primer but it's still not worth skipping. Spraycan, airbrush, brush - pick your tool, just remember to check if primer you picked is suitable for whatever method you decided upon in last two cases. Tamiya surface primer in a can is trusted and cheap method for beginners, Vallejo/AK is also okay if you intend on using waterbased acrylics.
>>
Where's my Gyanko pics, anon?
>>
>>23753629
Unlike the MG, RG miniatures are not meant to be for the cockpit.
>>
>>23753752
i've never had issues with adhesion or paint chipping off when spraying lacquers directly onto ps or abs
>>
>>23753746
If the goddamn Victory Gundam counts then the LED mirage better fucking count considering it's the MAIN force of the AKD. They only made a few dozen Victory Gundams but theres HUNDREDS of LED Mirages running around and Sarion's fits the 'ace custom' definition perfectly.

Sazabi's cockpit is actually one giant animation error. HG sazabi is probably the most "lore accurate" since Sazabi is not that huge, around 23m head height.
>>
>>23753761
I addressed this aspect in my post. Lacquer thinner is aggressive enough to melt plastic, which makes it adhere to it. However, it will also lead to damaged surface and other problems as >>23753765 painted out.

Thats why I had to ask. I dont know why FSS had an odd reputation here. I hardly seen people working on them.
>>
>>23753772
I wouldn't say it has a bad reputation, it's just that there's one guy here who REALLY hates it and gets mad whenever we talk about it.
>>
>>23753765
Neither of those are true, as many primers are lacquer based and would have the same issue. If your thinner is melting the plastic, you are using an extremely hot lacquer and should dilute it more or just use a hobby thinner like MLT.
>>
>>23753762
People don't dislike FSS, people dislike FSS poster who insist their kits are the pinnacle of modeling. Also, for the most part this thread likes big bulk mech, which FSS is the opposite of.

>>23753776
You should still always prime as it adds next to no time with lacquer based primers.

I place a bit of mark setter where the decal goes, then the decal, then a bit of setter on top, then remove excess water with a cotton swab. Finally my first painted gunpla. The contest I entered is over so I can finally post it. I unfortunately did not win, but I learned a lot from this. I kind of hurried it along since I only had a week to do it when I was asked to enter, but now I have all the time in the world to make the next one really nice.

Any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated. I struggled a lot since I'm used to painting two inch miniatures that don't move

Kotobkiya can compete with Bandai in the 1/100 scale, but they have no internal frames but it has better color and parts separation than Bandai. but its a shame that the licenses they have can't compete on the scale of Gundam
>>
>>23754020
It really depends on decals quality and age. I had decals from Kotobukiya that would adhere no problem with just water and ones that would refuse to stick unless treated with setter. Better safe than sorry, I prefer not to get mad over decals that suddenly decide to fly away.
>>
>>23754031
Bandai is king of Mecha model kits and despite them coming up with all kinds of dlc to ad tour kits, they are still affordable. You can snap and have a cool robot or put in all the work to make it something special, that wide range of use is also good for the popularity of the brand. That said, Chang is rising, when they do og stuff a lot of the time it's really well presented, with nice boxes and postcards, stickers and other fluff included. Bandai is complecwnt because they know people buy their stuff and pay $100,- extra for a led kit worth $15.

I actually didn't realize this when I first saw this image, but that's the FAZZ forearm (notice the small hole for attaching the armor) with the wing shields still attached. If they didn't actually modify at least one of the parts there, the wing shields would be loose as all fuck and they wouldn't even display it like this. So, it's possible that you're right and they have added new parts for it.

So what's pictured here is the Enhanced ZZ with a different/modified arm. There may yet still be hope that the kit isn't entirely old parts.

Are you wondering why exactly you need to take it apart or what? In general you want any protective layer to cover entire outer model surface, it's simply easier when it's separated into arms, legs, torso, head, etc.

>canned stuff
>airbrush with compressor

Whatever you want, any of these options are fine. Even brush but it's tricky. Mr Hobby is lacquer so just don't use it if you painted with waterbased acrylics (if you used lacquers instead it's completely fine).

Trips of truth. But really, it's mostly the matter of how Japanese treat "muh original Gundam" and UC at this point, instead of trying something fresh. IBO in theory was more fresh and Japan hated it for that.
>>
Give me BAWS Tetrapod PGU and then you can have my money, mr. Bandai.
>>
>>23755003
>IBO in theory was more fresh and Japan hated it for that.
Because the execution was terrible. The fundamental idea is indeed fresh, but the actual writing was really poor. Namely, it's longer than it needed, too many scenes of Olga just saying 'because we're family'. The funny thing is, the best scene which did show that sense of comradeship was the one where the boys were out having a meal and one of them talked about going to the brothel after that. Also, Kudelia was kinda just there for nearly the whole of season 1. And in season 2, the new masked guy spent too many episodes just standing in front of the vidar and making cryptic comments. So many of these kinds of scenes that could have been cut.

Meanwhile, the actual build up for the Tekkadan's downfall was rather lacking.
>>
>>23755000
It's always funny when I say I hate Gundam and people act like I'm saying it's slow.
I actually think it's way too fast (when it matters). The character moments go by at lightning speed with 0 emotional impact and then everything is brought to a halt when there's the mandatory fight of the episode that serves no purpose other than jingling keys.
And then the tiny bits of character/story developments are forgotten by the time the next fight starts.
There's no story or anything it's just a show for kids where big robots fight eachother. The only arc I like was the one with four and it was done in like 3-4 episodes.

I'll wait for anon to confirm, but I'd be willing to trade in transformation for a sturdy MS mode. The TR-6 hips just aren't very good. On the HZII in particular it's annoying to deal with when they pop off just enough for you to notice one leg is longer than the other. And shoving your hand in there to fix is a pain. On the Barzam II, it's less annoying, but also enough of a nuisance to be a hassle.

And who knows? Maybe this Wildfire Model company will release the transformation parts soon enough.

They're not for snapbabies and need glue and paint, and they're considerably more expensive than your average Gunpla. Doesn't help that this thread is 2/3 SEAfags who peddle generic chinkshit and bootlegs because they're too poor for even basic bitch Bandai kits.
It's like saying you don't see as many Porsche's as you do Toyota's on the road - no shit.

It's a simple square peg, so not hard if you have a tool to make the hole. Or as another anon suggested, you can just cut the peg off and glue it on.
As for the gun, can't say as I don't know how different are the proportions between RG and EG, but it shouldn't be much of a problem if you have some sanding tools

There are a number of people who argue here about things, that never actually do those things (frequently painting related). You can tell as they frequently say things that are wrong. Like the guy saying that matte clear coat creates bubbles and humidity doesn't effect frosting.
So no, I'm not going to believe someone actually paints FSS kits unless they post photos not from elsewhere. Especially in context of someone asking if one counts for the group build - they are going to have to post it here eventually and if they do Reddit or wherever else they post models it will be linked then. And if someone already posts elsewhere they are going to post the custom kit there also for likes.
Also there are 1.5 painted kits on that shelf. The .5 being the metal build.

No need to downplay it. Most posters here don't paint. There's probably like at most 20 people here who actually do more than snapbuild. There's typically like the same 5 or so people who consistently post their full builds. Then another 10 or so who post their works once in a while.

>>23755811
Strawman. Nobody said to expose your online identities, just post photos of some robot toys you allegedly made. But of course since you didn't actually have said item built, you decide to go for bad faith claims like how a single photo will expose your online identity. So either you're full of shit, or you have an over inflated sense of importance for thinking people will track you down over a photo of a robot toy.

Go post the photo of the kit in front of some neutral background. If not, then you're just full of shit and every other claims are just even more bad faith arguments. Simple as that.

second is this, a bit more interesting

it is a kit to build up to 2 Strike Gundam heads with the corresponding mouth plates for either the Metal Build version or the MG RM one

I bought this to replace the head of the Daban model I built recently with the gunbarrel striker pack because the head of that model is pretty bad, as it has some funky proportions and the very small eyes make it look too weird

while the sculpting of these heads is much better (a perfect replica of the MB version) the neat thing is that one comes molded in a combination of 3 gray colors, like the actual MB or the Daban model, while the other comes entirely molded in pure white plastic (including the eyes and camera sensors) for a truly blank do it yourself approach
