USAGS is charging in the neighborhood of $220 for it, but on Ali you can pretty readily find it for $150 or so with free shipping and tariffs already included. Then you can use the leftover/saved money to buy the aftermarket photo etch and/or 3D printed resin parts for even more improved detail.

>>23752766So basically only the ZZ Ver Ka can go G-Foretress as-is, without needing other kits? Guess I'll just hunt down an expansion for the Enhanced parts then
>>23753527They all can.
>>23753527Enhanced ZZ also can, just that the backpack is going to be sitting loose on the legs since the attachment points on the legs were removed for extra thrusters. As long as you're not trying to pose it upside-down though, it should be fine. And technically, the MG FAZZ kit includes about 95% of the MG ZZ kit, just without the backpack or Hyper Beam Saber blades. I have no idea if the FAZZ's backpack facilitates the transformation (hard to imagine that it wouldn't since all you do is detach it from the back and then swing it down over the back of the legs), but since all the other parts of the ZZ are included you can reproduce the vast majority of it.

Finally got around to working on the whites. Used dark blue for my undercoat and it looks better than using black from the looks of it. Now to wait for the paint to cure so I can start masking off sections.
The chink made we watch a 5 minute pre-programmed sequence of me winning several virtual lotteries in a row with the promise of $50 completely free USD being applied to my next purchase. I was suspicious, and only spent about $15 on some scribing tape and other tools. The color of chinese gunpla always looks so crisp already that it feels wrong to paint it.. How did they do it?

>>23753735The reprint already happened.
Excuse the newbie question, when painting a kit, do you guys prime it with a can (or by other means) or paint directly onto the model usually? I’ve seen both done, but just wanted more opinions on the matter.
>>23753749Spraying is pretty common but I do it with a brush. I do the latter because I don't want to buy cans as often.
>>23753749Always prime. Plastic, especially the one used with Bandai and Kotobukiya kits, takes paints very poorly. Primer provide proper grip for the paint and prevents chipping off later. Difference between primed and bare plastic surfaces is so great it's not even funny. Technically, lacquers, being chemically aggressive, will "bite into" surface so they could pass off without primer but it's still not worth skipping. Spraycan, airbrush, brush - pick your tool, just remember to check if primer you picked is suitable for whatever method you decided upon in last two cases. Tamiya surface primer in a can is trusted and cheap method for beginners, Vallejo/AK is also okay if you intend on using waterbased acrylics.
Where's my Gyanko pics, anon?
>>23753629Unlike the MG, RG miniatures are not meant to be for the cockpit.
>>23753752i've never had issues with adhesion or paint chipping off when spraying lacquers directly onto ps or abs
>>23753746If the goddamn Victory Gundam counts then the LED mirage better fucking count considering it's the MAIN force of the AKD. They only made a few dozen Victory Gundams but theres HUNDREDS of LED Mirages running around and Sarion's fits the 'ace custom' definition perfectly.I have a feeling a certain someone is gonna try to argue against it. And then maybe he'll try to start another FSS general to keep us out of his precious little gunpla thread lol
>>23753752>>23753751I figured as much, I suppose the videos I was watching of painting kits weren’t doing it simply for the sake of the video.
>>23753761you're going to end up with a frosted or scaly finish though because the thinners will melt the plastic at a microscopic level.
>>23753647Sazabi's cockpit is actually one giant animation error. HG sazabi is probably the most "lore accurate" since Sazabi is not that huge, around 23m head height.
>>23753761I addressed this aspect in my post. Lacquer thinner is aggressive enough to melt plastic, which makes it adhere to it. However, it will also lead to damaged surface and other problems as >>23753765 painted out.For fuck sake, people older and more experienced than you was using primer since very start of the hobby but you must know better, like some artistic young lady.
>>23753375It stands
>>23753762>I have a feeling a certain someone is gonna try to argue against it.Thats why I had to ask. I dont know why FSS had an odd reputation here. I hardly seen people working on them.
>>23753772I wouldn't say it has a bad reputation, it's just that there's one guy here who REALLY hates it and gets mad whenever we talk about it.
>>23753765Neither of those are true, as many primers are lacquer based and would have the same issue. If your thinner is melting the plastic, you are using an extremely hot lacquer and should dilute it more or just use a hobby thinner like MLT.
>>23753762People don't dislike FSS, people dislike FSS poster who insist their kits are the pinnacle of modeling. Also, for the most part this thread likes big bulk mech, which FSS is the opposite of.>>23753776You should still always prime as it adds next to no time with lacquer based primers.
i feel like we're going into another timeloop. i've seen this exact argument before.

You're supposed to use topcoat to protect the decals but I never did and they held on just fine. To be honest I think water decals are kind of overrated, stickers' edges are only noticeable if you're standing 10 cm from the kit
>>23753826You can always tell when someone doesn't use setter/softer because their decals still have that plastic film around the edge.

>>23754031Kotobkiya can compete with Bandai in the 1/100 scale, but they have no internal frames but it has better color and parts separation than Bandai. but its a shame that the licenses they have can't compete on the scale of Gundam
>>23754020It really depends on decals quality and age. I had decals from Kotobukiya that would adhere no problem with just water and ones that would refuse to stick unless treated with setter. Better safe than sorry, I prefer not to get mad over decals that suddenly decide to fly away.
>>23754031Bandai is king of Mecha model kits and despite them coming up with all kinds of dlc to ad tour kits, they are still affordable. You can snap and have a cool robot or put in all the work to make it something special, that wide range of use is also good for the popularity of the brand. That said, Chang is rising, when they do og stuff a lot of the time it's really well presented, with nice boxes and postcards, stickers and other fluff included. Bandai is complecwnt because they know people buy their stuff and pay $100,- extra for a led kit worth $15.
>>23754031Hasegawa beats out Bandai on their ver Ka decal autism, but then again, the Virtua On virtuaroids are designed by Katoki too

>>23753743I actually didn't realize this when I first saw this image, but that's the FAZZ forearm (notice the small hole for attaching the armor) with the wing shields still attached. If they didn't actually modify at least one of the parts there, the wing shields would be loose as all fuck and they wouldn't even display it like this. So, it's possible that you're right and they have added new parts for it.So what's pictured here is the Enhanced ZZ with a different/modified arm. >>23754289I think it is more an AZN thing, if there is a Gundam movie in theaters in Japan they also give out art cards and such. It's neat tho, makes the kit feel more premium. I have a daytime meteor in my backlog wich also had some extras like that and a real pretty and sturdy box that has an insert that can be used as backdrop for pictures, that kit does not look like some cheap crap from china.

I used to really like detailed inner frames, and then once I started painting, I felt compelled to paint said inner frames, which, combined with the fact that most of the inner frame would not see the light of day, really made me hate inner frames. I can still appreciate it though.

>>23755000>UCshit>good
>>23755000Trips of truth. But really, it's mostly the matter of how Japanese treat "muh original Gundam" and UC at this point, instead of trying something fresh. IBO in theory was more fresh and Japan hated it for that.
Give me BAWS Tetrapod PGU and then you can have my money, mr. Bandai.
>>23755003>IBO in theory was more fresh and Japan hated it for that.Because the execution was terrible. The fundamental idea is indeed fresh, but the actual writing was really poor. Namely, it's longer than it needed, too many scenes of Olga just saying 'because we're family'. The funny thing is, the best scene which did show that sense of comradeship was the one where the boys were out having a meal and one of them talked about going to the brothel after that. Also, Kudelia was kinda just there for nearly the whole of season 1. And in season 2, the new masked guy spent too many episodes just standing in front of the vidar and making cryptic comments. So many of these kinds of scenes that could have been cut.Meanwhile, the actual build up for the Tekkadan's downfall was rather lacking.
>>23755000It's always funny when I say I hate Gundam and people act like I'm saying it's slow.I actually think it's way too fast (when it matters). The character moments go by at lightning speed with 0 emotional impact and then everything is brought to a halt when there's the mandatory fight of the episode that serves no purpose other than jingling keys. And then the tiny bits of character/story developments are forgotten by the time the next fight starts. There's no story or anything it's just a show for kids where big robots fight eachother. The only arc I like was the one with four and it was done in like 3-4 episodes.

>>23755035Hope it's not just an upscale of the HG.
>>23755094I've only bought a couple of chink girlpla by hemoxian and they are pretty much MG in equivalence. Plenty of details, color and part separation. Arguably much more worth it than MG gunpla too, because they tend to have way more accessories/ alt parts for you play around with.
>>23754456plastic kit when
>>23755098After closer inspection the quality is on a rougher side as expected of a chinese kit. Some flash here and there, some connections are too tight, some surfaces got a bit of a swirl to them. As for surface detail quality it's fine aside from lines that go around beam cannons, those are weirdly misaligned
GM Light Armor almost done. How do you decide when you've slapped on enough decals? I seem to always have the issue of never finding the sweet spot between "not enough decals" and "too many decals".
>have to do masking for 75% of the white parts of the Nu HWS

>>23754948Gyanko's design is extremely stylized, i don't think any new face sculpt would end up different. They did a good job. Biggest problem of the kit is how floppy it feels, even after painting all the joints and the elbow is really fragile, too.

On the HZII in particular it's annoying to deal with when they pop off just enough for you to notice one leg is longer than the other. And shoving your hand in there to fix is a pain. On the Barzam II, it's less annoying, but also enough of a nuisance to be a hassle. And who knows? Maybe this Wildfire Model company will release the transformation parts soon enough.

Trans am colors are really hard to mix when you're colorblind. Send help. I bought a few of the colors but making a good pink to replace the white is suffering
>>23755674Ask an AI what to consider from X brands. Include a screenshot of whatever suit in Trans am. I've had pretty good luck with Gemini doing so - helped stop me from making a few color theory errors since I'm terrible at that.
>>23755678>>23755674Actually, I went and asked and it suggested XC03 Mr Crystal Color over the top of a gloss white base. The red will be partially translucent which is similar to how it flows in the show. Also from personal use, it probably will color shift with light amount /angles and look cool.
