She's a Newtype as well, and researches the psychoframe, so she's able to understand Amuro on that level too. And she and Amuro speak to each other with care and interest, so it's not like they're substituting in a Newtype connection or some escapism/fantasy for a real human connection.She can also pilot a mobile suit when needed, and is a deadeye on a turret. Chan deserved more screentime, or an adaptation where she managed to survive so she could develop more.
