This came out of nowhere. I was always kind disappointed that Square never seemed to use him for anything after NieR ReIncarnarion which was a gacha so I never really played it. Nier Replicant/Gestalt and Automata were pretty great. I loved the story and characters so much. I loved the first one a lot more which is probably uncommon. I havent played Drakengard 1 but I heard it had a great story and characters from people and remember reading Ending E was supposed to be a parody of Evangelion (End of E get it giant naked women etc) which is really funny in retrospect. This is really promising. The nier music guy doing Evangelion is amazing. It's no wonder the visuals focus on musical instruments. Dont know shit about anyone else involved though.

So what are the "ingredients" for an Eva AU? Gundam has its Char clones, its Earth vs space colony wars, the Newtype equivalents, the general design language of a "Gundam".I think there will be almost certainly heavily marketed tsundere vs kuudere heroine options. Probably the exotic religious imagery will remain, maybe they'll try it with something other than Christianity.
