So I just finished Gunbuster and that was great, especially the last 2 episodes. I found out that it has a sequel so of course I was excited. I watched the 1st episode and what the fuck is this? This isn't even super robot anymore, but straight up tokusatsu with nonsense super power. it reminds me so much of that garbage Kill la Kill with the overall vibe and style
lame
cool
and now we Guren Lagann

>>23787997just like gunbuster.
Done. This is closer to Franxx than Gunbuster.I'll just pretend Diebuster doesn't exist.retro > modern
did you watch it at 3x speed or something?
>>23788008
>>23787961Filtered, Diebuster was even better than Gunbuster.
Gunbuster went from grounded sci-fi that progressively got more absurd in terms of power scaling each episode until it went radical in the final episodeDiebuster started with Dragon Ball Z and ended with Dragon Ball Z.Gunbuster developed small cast of characters that constantly interact with each otherDiebuster is filled with side characters and random teenagers. main characters don't even interact that much.Gunbuster's fanservice feels natural, even the final topless scene had a meaningful purpose (detonating bomb fuse)Diebuster's fanservice feels forced, shoved in your face HEY LOOK! PANTSU!Gunbuster's characters act like humanDiebuster's characters act like anime characters in shonen mangaThe impact, tension and excitement are completely different.Diebuster is an insult to Gunbuster.even Eureka 7 Ao was a better shameless sequel.>>23788019How is it better?
>>23788020Having an onee-sama that doesn’t suddenly fall in love with the coach out of nowhere for starters, everyone other than Noriko feels like a cardboard cutout 80s character with a flat personality, Gunbuster was carried entirely by her since the rest of the cast was serviceable at best.
I think it would have worked better if it had been structured like if it was "oh hey here's some new thing from the people who made FLCL and Abenobashi, oh those wacky Gainax guys must be doing a big shout-out to Gunbuster in this with some of the aesthetics" then at the end go full throttle and reveal it was a Gunbuster sequel all along
>>23788023>-sama that doesn’t suddenly fall in love with the coach out of nowhere for startersnot a negative>everyone other than Noriko feels like a cardboard cutout 80s character with a flat personalityas opposed to Diebuster's NPC's cardboard cutout 00s character with a flat personality?>Gunbuster was carried entirely by hershe's the main character. the anime revolves around her and also her relationship with Amano, Jung and Coach. again, not a negative.>>23788039and TTGL's prequel lol
>>23788039Not everything needs to be a plot twist or a hype moments compilation just to be featured in a shitty youtube video titled "GUNBUSTERS HIDDEN SEQUEL" years down the line.
>>23788189Exactly.
>>23788020>Gunbuster developed small cast of characters that constantly interact with each otherBullshit. The 3 girls in Gunbuster barely interact at all. Kazumi and Noriko aren't even friends. They're coworkers. Jung is barely a character too. The only thing we know about her is that she wants to fuck Coach. Kazumi works hard and wants to fuck Coach. These characters have little to no backstory, no development and no relationship with the other characters. In fact, aside from Noriko, no one in Gunbuster is much of a character. Coach at least has a backstory and trains Noriko. But Jung and Kazumi? Even Kimiko who has 5 seconds of screentime is more of a friend and has a better relationship to Noriko than the other 2 girls. I'd argue the bully in the first episode was a better character than them. Good characters is not something Gunbuster can hang its hat on.
didn't care for diebuster for the majority of the show, towards the end i warmed up to it a bit but still woulda written it off as an unworthy sequelthen the very ending made me cry just like gunbuster and for that it gets a big thumbs up from me
>>23788218Yeah, but it can hang it's hat on Noriko at least, and I wouldn't have Diebuster without it so even with it's flaws (and Gunboomers that don't like how different Diebuster is) I have can always appreciate Gunbuster.
>>23787961>>23788008>6 episodes>runtime is nearly 3 hours>not even an hour between first and final postAny opinion you have is immediately null and void, you zooming speedwatcher. No wonder this board continues to degrade in quality.
>>23788401why do you like Diebuster?
>>23787961Casual. Diebuster is classic late 00s super which took 70s themes to new heights with animation techniques. You ate small time. Diebuster had a good cast with movie tier action. If you didn't cry during ep 3 you are not a human being.
>>23788670Smith's death was more impactful than anything that happened in Diebuster
>>23788675also anything about time lapse like Coach's 6 months lifespan, Kimiko's growing up, letter from Kimiko about her daughter and of course the 12,000 years time dilation.Diebuster had NO good emotional moment, let alone something that could rival Gunbuster's.
>>23788675This is the second most retarded opinion I’ve heard on this board recently, nobody outside of Noriko gives a single shit about this guy.
>>23788749We give a shit about Noriko that had to overcome the trauma caused by Smith's death.
>>23788749well, I like Studio Proteus at least
>>23788765You know what traumatic death Noriko could have overcome instead of some guy that has barely 10 minutes worth of screentime and the most rushed romantic subplot ever? Her FUCKING DAD, who she just found out first hand is dead for real the last episode and was still fucking depressed over it.
>>23788771What's your point? Diebuster is still shit where its most important drama is about Lalac and her lame ass inferiority complex lol
>>23788799Same goes for Gunbuster and it’s half assed melodrama with Kazumi and the Coach.
>>23788767Pour one out, April 12, 1960 – March 4, 2013.
>>23788010>>23788401>blogger's also a speedwatcher
>>23788680the only good emotional moment in diebuster is at the very end when she says who she's waiting for, and that relies on how good gunbuster's ending is
>>23788675fuck no, nobody remembers this faggot.
>>23788812dang, it's been that long since the real Smith died?
>>23787961why is every complaint about Diebuster the most retarded shit you ever heard like seriously.
>>23790944I think they're expecting a direct continuation. Motherfuckers acting like Gunbuster's first episode wouldn't give the impression of a high school sports drama.
>>23790944>>23790988Die and Gun are tonally differentIt's like having Franxx as a sequel to LoGH
>>23790992>It's like having Franxx as a sequel to LoGHmaybe a less-mean one would be LoGH as a sequel to Versailles no bullshit if Reinhard had busted out "like my ancestor.... LADY OSCAR" that would have been the real shit
>>23790944Well when you have a literal speedwatcher being behind most of the complaints in this thread retarded shit is basically a given.
>>23787981What happened to the n?
>>23793666Fell past the event horizon.
I liked both. Diesbuster wasn't as good as Gunbuster but it was enjoyable enough and I liked the character design. IDK maybe I'm just a slop enjoyer or something because I see the good in things people on here hate. My friend said Getter Robo Armageddon but I thought it was awesome even though the plot was super confusing. I should probably rewatch it though since I haven't seen Diebuster in ages.
Why are diebusterfags such insufferable zoomers?
Why are gunbusterhets such diddy blud uncs :skull:
Why are Noriko and Kazumi taking so long to come back, should I be worried?
I like both!
>>23788805>it’s>'
>>23787961I think the problem is that Nono is such a non-character. Her goals are vague, her arc is non-existent, and her presence in the plot is minimal, but the rest of the cast doesn't have a strong enough presence or is fleshed out enough to fill in the gaps as a sort of anthology of character focus.Compared to Gunbuster, where it's all about Noriko and her struggling with the war and wanting to live up to the role and what not.
>>23794198Me too.
>>23787961Filtered.>it reminds me so much of that garbage Kill la KillDouble filtered. Spare us anymore retarded posts and blow your head off.
>believes in real/super>is obviously a tourist>blogpostingslit your throat
>>23787961I legitimately hated it. The art style mecha design and music were the only thing I like, but the contrasted with the original designs in such a weird way. And the plot does such a shitty job of living up to the themes and feeling and characters of the original. And they just copy paste the end of Gunbuster on there. Theres no real hard work and guts or sports anime theme that isnt halfassed. I see why people might like it cause it's got style and a mecha girl but I dont like it. There is absolutely no public hairs 0/10
>>23797028>Her goals are vague, her arc is non-existent, and her presence in the plot is minimalWhat really made me dislike it was when they tried to halfass a hard work and guts moment but she just...walked on a treadmill for a bit. It's been awhile since I've seen it maybe there was more but its pretty shallow.
You can skip the first 5 episodes of Gunbuster and arguably get more out of the OVA, episode 6 carries the thing so hard it's beyond a joke. I honestly can't think of any other show, anime or otherwise, that is so heavily skewed to a single episode.
>>23787961>but straight up tokusatsu with nonsense super powerLike all super robot shows.
Snowball Earth just aired and it's already a better spiritual successor to Gunbuster
