-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

-= ACE CUSTOM GROUPBUILD =-

Build, customize, and paint a grunt mobile suit up for use by an ace pilot.
>You are taking the role of the Ace Pilot here - You're making the design choices when it comes to loadout, paint scheme, and suit customizations.
>Think about what your Ace specializes in, is he all in on offensive power, speed and maneuverability, or bulk and defense?
>While your pilot is an ace, he's not so special that he's getting super secret prototypes like Gundams or Mobile Armors. Keep your grunt relatively grounded to whatever setting it's from.

Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

Is weathering done on the stage where you decal/panel line before the final topcoat or is it after the final topcoat? Asking for myself since I wanna try weathering for the first time.

do it after decals and liner, also depending on what kind of weathering you'll do you either put it on top of a satin or gloss coat, or flat

Steel chipping, would it be on after the final flat coat or before?

Before. You need the final coat to seal in all the weathering the same way you'd seal paint and decals, that's basic logic

The reason why not everything is Master Grade is because of design complications. Some are not worth making as MGs due to design clash, and your Flag-based machines are never meant to be MGs due to the spindly frame. I would expect a Susanowo, but they gotta have parts to make the GN Flag out of the age-old 1/100 Non Grade Over Flag.

Not until next year, I suppose. Though it's still a matter of time until they announce the Cherudim. Here's the logic: One by one, we would get releases for the Season 2 Gundams (Cherudim, Arios, Seravee, and Reborns), then we also get the GN Archer with the GN Heavy Weapon upgrades for the rest of the CB Gundams as a set, and finally, P-Bandai Artemie. But between any of these kits will be the Full Mechanics Susanowo, and maybe after that, the P-Bandai Masurao (which is a minor recolor that came first anyway).
>>
>>23795690
Was hoping they would have upscaled it to 1/100. It's just about the only suit from that show I like and I want it in that scale.

>>
>>23795699
It is probably too late for 00 to receive new batch of kits. Bandai doesn't even bother to remake those 2009 HGs. Reborns almost had a RE100 kit but that got canned long ago.

Most of the HG 00 stuff are good, particularly its Season 2 kits, which is why we aren't getting updated versions. But for Master Grades, it's still fair game, since we kinda have the frames for them. Though one minor bit I would think of in regards to electronics is that if the Season 2 kits get MGs, Cherudim and Arios won't get light-up GN Drives unless they use a more compact LED unit (like the ones used in the FRS Netflix Ultraman kits), but keep the glowing head parts the 00 Gundam got. The Seraphim, on the other hand, might as well use a Netflix Ultraman LED Unit for the Drive because of Face Burst Mode, and the Seravee still somehow gets a light-up head with only one LED.

The Full Armor ZZ has new parts for the wing shields so that you don't have to replace the entire forearm when you swap the armor on or off. Though granted, it's designed to be attached to the non-transforming forearms which have the holes for attaching the armor parts, so if you want to do the G-Fortress transformation you'll have to do a forearm swap anyway.

>The reason why not everything is Master Grade is because of design complications. Some are not worth making as MGs due to design clash
They did the Zaku II Kai dirty. That could have been a MG kit, it would have worked and is popular enough to sell. Bandai in their infinitely bad marketing and their unconscious desire to screw over the Gundam Franchise decided to put it in RE/100 hell

But why? Is there a big demand for a scale between HG and MG? That feels like a recipe for disaster, since not only are there plenty of opportunities to fuck it up, but also you couldn't even display it alongside any of your other kits.

Which does kind of make me wonder if Bandai would one day dip into making kits in this intermediate scale with MG/RG-complexity, if only because 1/144 scale is already forcing them to make all sorts of compromises for RG kits.

>>23795893
I assume that they have reduced engineering and development costs, due to not having to design full inner frames and detailing the inner sides of the armor pieces. But too bad they aren't priced accordingly.

When RE/100 was pitched to the public back in the early 2010's it was reasonable. It was to make cheaper, 1/100 scale kits of designs that were too large (Nightingale), or too obscure and low demand (GP04, Dijeh) to make a profitable MG kit from.

The problem is that it quickly evolved into a line for Bandai to throw high demand kits into that they just didn't feel like putting effort into making MG kits for so fans would shut up. Then Bandai started increasing prices for RE/100, probably destroying sales and the later kits were mostly released through P-Bandai from then on.
>>
>>23795899
My favourite RG. It is so well made.
>>
>>23795905
It's also funny to point out that the GM Sniper II was originally considered for RE/100 but became a MG kit instead and ended up becoming one of the most popular kits and has a inner frame that was utilized in a lot of other MG kits later on. Bamco just throws darts at a board most of the time.
>>
>>23795888
>>23795914
Wait what exactly are RE/100s and are they goo-
>>23795905
So they're expensive non-MG kits, I'm paying similar prices as I would for an MG except it doesn't have inner frames that an MG would? Am I retarded?
>>
>>23795914
RE100 was never really about the lack of popularity. Bandai just wanted to be rewarded for their laziness. They almost put Jegan and Leo in it.
>>
Hey, I'm building the PGU Rx-78-2 and the metallic etching stickers don't wanna stick at all. Anyone else had this problem? Can I just use some mr cement?
>>
>>23795930
Correct. They're basically the bastard child of MG that's demanding similar or greater pricing compared to actual MG kits. I assume that they originated from the old concept of 1/100 HG kits that pretty much every AU series has had, but applied to UC, and then eventually coalesced it all under RE/100 and Full Mechanics (which actually derives itself from the sequel name for the 1/100 HG kits for IBO season 2).

It's a huge directionless mess that's probably going to get worse rather than better.
>>
>>23795932
Do you even understand how plastic cement works?
>>
>>23795932
so this is the target audience of PGU slop...
>>
>>23795602
>Just pay 50 bucks for a poker card bro
No
>>
>>23795933
So is there no reason to buy RE/100s unless literally
>MG prices
>no MG frames
>and I either don't care about inner frames, the mobile suit is a favourite, or the mobile suit's HG kit either doesn't exist or sucks enough ass such that this is my only option
and it's out of either reluctance or indifference that I or someone else would buy these? I heard the new RE/100 term get dropped now and then and assumed it was some expensive and fancy premium thing (not that kind of premium) on par with PGs and PGUs
>>
>>23795934
It's just some glue?
>>
>>23795937
You buy them for the same reason you buy MG kits: You want a 1/100 scale kit of that design. It's highly unlikely that a RE/100 or FM kit is going to get an MG, Aerial is the only one I can think of that will eventually get a MG simply because it's the Gundam of its show. Ultimately, unless you actually care about the inner frame, it doesn't really matter all that much since the exterior detail and limb motion range is comparable to a MG. The AU 1/100 HG kits don't match the level of detail, though the IBO ones do include inner frames simply because that's how IBO as a whole works, which makes them the exception to the rule.
>>
>RG Tallgeese exists
>HG Leo exists
>No HG Tallgeese
>Easy money but they won't do it
Why
>>
>>23795941
detailed inner frame matters for 1/100. FMs are floppy and light weight as hell.
>>
>>23795938
It isn't. Do some research on how rubber/plastic cement works, to find out why it would utterly fail in what you're trying to do here.

>>23795943
Anon, you do know that the Leo is not the same size as the Tallgeese, right?
>>
>>23795941
This might sound like massive cope for people who actually own MGs but
>some HGs have some inner joints or frame-like shit
>others are made after like 2010 and have decent motion
>others are from the 2000s and you'd be lucky if anything has a 90-degree bend
>all of these are vaguely similarly priced
>so if you pretend MGs and RE/100s are in the same bag the same way old, modern, and detailed HGs are, it's not as upsetting
Having built 1 RG and 0 MGs, I personally don't care about inner frames existing, apart from them possibly helping with better articulation. But I always thought it was cool how there was a scale larger than HGs that had inner detail as well, and it feels like you're getting robbed of those with these pseudo-MGs.
That being said
>the exterior detail and limb motion range is comparable to a MG
is good enough for me
>>
>>23795943
I don't see the reason why HG Tallgeese should exist. The RG kit is 1/144 already.
>>
>>23795949
For some people, the build process can actually be a major factor in the decision to purchase a kit, and the willingness to pay extra. Besides MG kits which usually have pretty good inner frames, you have the PGU line and the RG Gundam 2.0 that have multiple layers of inner frame. They may not display the kit with the armor pieces removed, but for those people the experience of building up the inner skeleton, then the layer of inner frame, and then finally the external armor, all while adding in all the details in-between, are part of the enjoyment and they're willing to pay good money for it. Like, yeah, it sounds kind of stupid to spend so much effort building and detailing parts of the kit that will never see the light of day after you attach the armor, but there are people that achieve neuron activation from that.
>>
>>23795854
50% maximum. I would never pay $200 for the original release SMP Gaoking.
>>
>>23795956
Just a personal opinion, but the simple structure type of kits is only acceptable when the kit is small, stuff like Hexagear's Governor and HG. When you inflate the kit's size into 15cm tall at minimum, you can feel the hollow interior and how thin the pieces are because your brain immediately tells you that something is wrong when a robot that big has 0 weight. Unlike the smaller HG and RG where their weight is appropriate to their size.

>the build process
>find the long hours arduous but refuse to do multiple sittings
>finish building a thing and then immediately wonder what to build next
No yeah, the building process can be fun, I'll just refuse to admit it.
>the experience of building up the inner skeleton, then the layer of inner frame, and then finally the external armor, all while adding in all the details in-between
I'd appreciate this more if the instructions actually went in that order, but from my singular RG experience this wasn't the case. I'd definitely get more of an appreciation if the build process was
>lunar titanium skeleton
>then the sensors and basic mechanicals
>then the gundanium alloy armor
>then all the fun visual bits and your new friend is now complete
and if this is the case for bigger builds, then that sounds really great.
>sounds kind of stupid to spend so much effort building and detailing parts of the kit that will never see the light of day
This is true but I'll also greatly appreciate it if there's detail like that for HGs as well, even the HG Gyan has I think some vents beneath its chest armor. I'm also the sort of person who panel-lines feet and worries about things like
>if I paint something, then the outer bit will be one color but the inner bit will be different
>so then in-universe it's just a coating rather than the entire piece being a certain metal it's meant to be
or
>if the internals aren't symmetrical (e.g. one joint's part order is A then B and the other is B and A, even though the result is symmetrical other than "one piece has a peg and the other has a hole" inside), the circuits will be out of order, or maybe the robot will feel uncomfortable
so fuck, maybe I'll like MGs, just never got around to picking one. Maybe the Mk-II or Hyakushiki.

Building modelkits is like playing good videogames. When the game is good but it is like 30 minutes long, you will feel disappointed and crave for a longer runtime as some sort of your own personal closure. The ideal building time is 2 hours or more. The disappointment requirement is 30 minutes ( yes i'm looking at you 30MM )
>>
>>23795983
>The ideal building time is 2 hours
It takes me 4 days to build a master grade + 2-3 more days for panel lining and decals. double the time if painting.
It's nice to build 1 gunpla / month
>>
>>23795988
Alot of MGs are quite simple and have an optimized assembly time like MG Jegan and Zaku Warrior. They are fun "quick" builds. The longest and most tedious assembly in my recent memory is FAZZ.
>>
>>23795876
Yeah the arms on the HG aren't that sturdy but it looks like he hasn't got it pushed in firmly. A little bit of pressure and mine keeps the arm pose just fine, but it does tend to slacken a bit if I poke it or something.

ak interactive gold for female piston parts
mr color super fine silver 2 for outer frame

forgot to mention that these were all painted over tamiya black lacquer and the mr color and tamiya metallics were thinned with mr rapid thinner.
this gave a much, much better result than my previous attempts with my go-to mr levelling thinner.
also, my mr color super fine silver 2 had completely solidified in the bottle but was salvageable with thinner and stirring, and the resulting finish was really superb, I can't recommend it enough.

i believe alclad has been discontinued which is a shame because their variety is fantastic (their polished aluminium was one of my favourite metallics for candy coats) but ak is still a strong contender for pre-thinned metallics.

Got everything primed, starting my weekend project to paint my MG zaku II 2.0 ms-06f kit. Finished up all of the secondary armor (chest/and skirt parts) get to the end and realize that I can't find pic related anywhere. Parts have only been in two locations, my work desk and my desk near my spray booth. I've torn the house upside down trying to find it. I don't remember the last time I saw the part, but there is one suspicious alligator clip without a primed part on it. My guess is it squeezed out and pinched itself into another dimension. Now I want to just abandon the kit despite being 85% done. Sucks.
>>

You can prolly just fill the gap with putty and sand to fit at worst. Overall be very careful with it. The inner frame is full of c-clips that are looking for any excuse to snap. Source: Me and my Gouf.

Honestly, I'm pretty sure that's outright impossible from how it happened in animation, because Fukuda is a fucking hack who values style and shock over any amount of substance.

Seravee II seems more than possible, since they seemed to have half-assed it on the Raphael kit with the intention to do a full kit later on, like they did with Seraphim.

>>23796639
>Does it hold up better than the Mk-II?
Definitely would say so, MK-II basically kicked off the 2.0 era (2005) while Hyaku was at the tail end of it (2015). MK-II isn't "bad", it looks pretty good and it has really cool shifting armor in the legs, but it's very simple almost HG-like with its barebones parts seperation and articulation. Even compared to 2.0s that would come just a few years later.

Aside from using polycaps, Hyaku doesn't feel very aged at all. Full color separation, layered inner frame with very well designed joints and smart usage of polycaps, probably the best style of manipulator hands they ever did (with a flip out tab on both the palm and the weapons, really solid connection) and generous undergating on account of the pre-painting. I don't see them making another one any time soon.
>>
>>23796996
Man, I really want an MK II 2.0. It's been such a long time since there was a reprint, though. I ain't paying double MSRP or more for such an old kit.

I guess I'll hold off on it until I get another Mk-II itch, still have to get the Super Gundam to upgrade the Revive version. I know they're different creatures, but would the MG or the RG be better for the Mk-II? Just for when I decide to get another Mk-II of some sort.
>individually articulated fingers

2.0 MK-II is always pretty cheap I find, the titans ver. less so (somehow) but every from of it is getting reprinted at least, even that ancient super gundam

>>23797016
>MG or the RG be better for the Mk-II?
I don't have the RG, but from what I gather it's basically down to preference in scale/design. The RG is less anime accurate with extra panels and shiet, the titans ver actually comes with extra parts for a 'test type' configuration, and it's also far easier to get a G-defensor for since the HGUC exists (the pbandai two-pack even comes with an adapter).
The MG is just bigger and more solid. Though if you already have the revive, I'd probably get the MG just for the variety.

I am holding out hope they make a new one, as Zeta, ZZ and Hyaku all have pretty great new fangled kits that leave ol' MK-II feeling kinda limp, but who knows how that'll take?

You have three options:

1. Go over them with a different clear color in the hopes that they'll blend into something cool

2. Cast using silicone and clear resin and then paint/dye (which if you want to do properly, requires a shitload of extra equipment including a vacuum chamber and pressure pot)

3. 3D print the parts (requires even more extra hardware)

>>

Because you're a moron who doesn't understand how anatomy works. The human foot can arch and bend depending on the terrain, so mecha having separated heels is simply another instance of them mimicking the human form. Flat-footed mecha are a horrendous pain in the ass to pose in any case, and it's ultimately only The Gundam which has that feature which is immediately fixed in subsequent iterations.

Not that anon, but I don't share your optimism. Bandai tends to reserve mobile armors for main heroes/rivals from recently premiering shows/movies. The ones that we've gotten in the past ten years were:

Narrative A
Xi & Penelope
Nightingale
Zeus Silhouette
Typhoeus Gundam Chimera
Destroy Gundam
Psyco Gundam Mk-II
Alyzeus

Of those, the only ones that weren't part of recent premieres are the Nightingale (which is a Char MS so it gets a pass by default) and Psyco Gundam Mk-II (which shares a huge chunk of its runners with that Metaverse monstrosity). And before that, you'd have to go back to 2002's GP03 Dendrobium and 2004's Psyco Gundam Mk-I to get something that wasn't released alongside a currently-airing work.

As much as I love ZZ, I don't think they're going to risk the investment for it. It's Psyco Gundam sized (around 28cm height) but is also going to require completely original tooling since it won't share runners like the Psyco Gundam Mk-II.
>>
>auctioning rare kits instead of just selling it
Fucking hell man this is illegal
>>
>>23798281
Ple II is one of the most beloved ZZ characters, Glemy is a major antagonist, the Quin Mantha is extremely plot relevant and holds in general way more importance than the Psyco Mark II ever does. It was cut outta the movies and even in the OG series it barely does anything for a character decidely less relevant than a main antagonist or even the main love interest, and it does nothing but die in ZZ for the same person who pilots it to pilot... the finale super weapon of Neo Zeon.
The Psyco Mark II only shares runners with anything because they reused parts of it before it came out in a new original design, nothing stopping them from making up something else to use part of Quin Mantha's too. It also has one recolour they can make that maybe someone cares about already.

cool beauty type
she has great fashion and design, I liked her voice, and she had one of the best stories of ZZ with Glemy's one-sided affection from her teasing early on. It's a nice long running but not overly forced connection that has a great payoff at the end. Also she's actually a really good pilot through the show and probably has more kills than anyone else. Elle doesn't really have many standout moments to me except just generally being fun. No hate to her or anything, I like her a lot too. I think most of the cast is likable except that Beecha and Mondo's hijinks go a bit too far and Beecha becoming captain doesn't ever really work. They all have great designs though. I think ZZ has incredibly character designs as a whole.

probably agree, I think it would have been a meaningful death to pull the rest of the kids firmly into the war as their ryu jose moment but I also think he coulda at least given them more meaningful stories of redemption/maturing if he wanted to keep them alive. They do, eventually, slowly mature but not enough really and they spend too long still fucking around as little self serving rats for too long. I would probably prefer their death too though and I actually do still generally like them as characters.

>>
>>23798718
Not really sure what the person in that image is complaining about exactly, but yeah I mostly get 1/100 kits now.
Mainly for me because the differences in head size/detail specifically is extremely noticeable; HG heads are just so tiny and 'detail-less' compared to an MG head, and the head being such a focal point of a kit... I just couldn't get over that particular hang up.

I think it hit me specifically with the 30mm AC6 Nightfall kit, the head is like the size of a sunflower seed, I was just kinda like..fuck this.

I wouldn't be offended if you entered your gogg too. I do not care about the votes that much and I'm not delusional enough to think my recolored gogg is a winner. I think more goggs would be a good thing. The gogg density of the groupbuilds is always low.

Just got finished snapping together my first non-Bandai girlpla. This was so much better than the two Figure Rise Standard kits I'd done that I don't know how Bandai gets away with it. Like for one, it came with enough parts to actually make both bodies instead of having a fucking torso left over. And second, it came with ENOUGH BALL JOINT PARTS FOR EVERY FUCKING HAND. WHY THE FUCK CAN'T BANDAI DO THAT? Third, five preprinted faceplates. Who the fuck actually wants to have to apply the waterslide eyes themselves and have them come out fucking lopsided, or even worse, go on right but be paranoid for the rest of your fucking life about them NOT being on right and you just can't tell without breaking out a fucking quantum telescope or some shit to measure it.

Still probably gonna get the FRS Tifa Adill at some point though. As shit as they are, they still have a legal monopoly on their own IP, and there ain't shit I can do about that.
>>
>>23799118
Bandai makes cheaper, simpler girlpla. They've also been making it for less time than their competitors so it makes sense that theirs would be better engineered.

I'm too embarrassed to show off my shoddy builds. /gpg/ is fine since it's functionally anonymous.
>>
>>23799553
EG's are kinda cool, I like the way they color separate parts that would be stickers on HG's. Of course with an immense amount of detail loss on other parts but it's still neat.
>>
>>23799977
The detail loss usually makes them more accurate to the show they are from, which is good for the autists that prioritize that.
Also it was a fun kit to build one afternoon with my brother who doesn't do models.
