How do you feel about Amuro Ray? I thought Amuro was a well-developed protagonist just as interesting as Char, who is a more popular character. The franchise also tends to keep him in the background nowadays. Gquux had Char running around, multiple Lalahs and Amuro doesn't make a real on-screen appearance.
That's probably because his VA got #metoo'd and paid for a Detective Conan fan to get an abortion.
Amuro probably won't get any full proper appearances other than cameos until he's fully recast, people are still shitting their pants over Furuya.

You'd think he'd have some kind of belief or ideals formed after his years of experiences but he's just perfectly content with the status quo. He made no qualms about the AEUG being folded back into the Federation and ultimately achieving nothing, and doesn't even mind being put on a leash with Londo Bell. He has the people's vote literally as THE Federation's Hero so I wish he owned it more. I think he could use a talk like the one he gave to Quattro in Zeta leading up to the Dakar speech. With that being said it's also fair to say that he never had a chance to do so with all the constant fighting and preventing the Earth from being pushed to extinction, I still think it could have been vocalized at least.

I thought he was pretty much the most basic out of the three. He remains a corporate bootleg the whole way through under the guise of idealism. Kamille and Judau were more interesting to watch and Judau especially just going "fuck it, I'm out." was cathartic.

Amuro is interesting to me because he doesn't really ever seem to have any real political convictions and just seems to be carried by the waves of whatever is going on. Char is very clearly just motivated by his own personal goals, but Amuro just seems to be adrift by his own basic idealism and wanting to protect people, which makes him feel like a cypher in some ways. If whatever enemy faction he was up against wasn't doing something particularly extreme, I could see him falling into with any particular group.A lot of Amuro's personality feels like it's shaped by his circumstance and being relative to Char. He's not even particularly attached to the rivalry and just feels like he goes along because he's expected by everyone else to do these things. He goes with the flow of things and his argument against Char in CC is basically just telling him to wait things out.In essence, Amuro would be happiest just tinkering on machinery in a room.
